We stayed at the Holiday Inn Yelong Bay on 2/25/07 - 3/1/07 For $30 the upgrade for a ocean view suite is worth it! 95 percent of the people who stay there are chinese. The staff are very nice and helpful and the pool is great! The only thing is that the beds are hard (I think because chinese like hard beds) and there is not much to do there besides the beach and the pool.

The food is pricey but if you can get a ocean view suite (Great ocean view!!) for $130 to $150 then I will book this place.

Dear Sir I cannot believe some of the reviews I have just read about this hotel. I was their in May 2005 and found the staff friendly, helpfull and most COULD speak English if, funnily enough, with a Chinese lilt. The locals did have an area of beach close to the hotel but I found this an extra pleasure, who wants to be with a load of moaning tourists all the time, and I mingled with them happily. The rooms were clean and well appointed and the food more than satisfactory. All the bars had good service, and beer, and the beach bar staff even tried to teach me some Chinese, they failed I'm ashamed to admit, but at least I can now order a beer. It was a long trip from England via Beijing but well worth the effort. The only trouble I had was the cancelation of two of my internal flights but I worked my way around this problem eventually. The manage even booked an overnight stop for me in Beijing on my way home. It is an hotel I would happily return too if I decided to return to Sanya. Yours James Holden

We stayed for 2 nights in April. The foyer area of the hotel is very nice with a beautiful panoramic view of the hotel gardens and the sea. We stayed in a room with a view of the garden- the decor was very bland- we got the feeling that it was probably the same as every other Holiday Inn around the world with no appreciation that it is on a Chinese Island. The bed was also rock hard.
We ate in the main restaurant where you can eat buffet style or al a carte. On the first night they had a barbecue on the veranda. I was amazed to see the way they cooked the chicken and pork- they used all the same utensils to handle the raw meat as the cooked meat- this might explain one of the other reviewer's food poisoning. The food overall was only average.
We moved onto the Sheraton for the following 3 nights and it is a world apart. It is a bit cheesey with a ferrari parked in the foyer but it It is very luxurious and spacious and is way ahead of the Holiday Inn with good food, beautiful bedrooms and gardens. No contest!

Spent a few days here in March. First time to Sanya for us - the sea and beaches are great. However at Yalong bay there is a bit of a cartel with nothing much apart from the large hotels.
This hotel was fine, though could be better. Prices seemed a little high, food was ok but not brilliant.
At the beach bar we noticed a rat the size of a small cat. We mentioned this to the bartender who seemed puzzled until we pointed to another monster rat under the next table. He said there was not much they could do as they were 'wild mountain rats'. Mmmm.. Won't be going back.
