I booked this hotel through a Chinese travel web site: ctrip.com on June 12, 2007. The hotel boasts itself as a five-star on the web site and I expected to stay in a hotel like that. However, my one night stay did not quite match my expectation.
My experience was not totally negative. The location of the hotel is good. It is at the intersection of two major roads that links the airport and downtown. The exterior and the first expression as one walks into the hotel was decent.
The hotel has a lot of problems. First of all, the air condition was functioning properly or the temperature was intentionally kept too high. That made the inside of the hotel stuffy, humid and unpleasant. The guest room was not only small, but the air condition was shut off when it was not occupied. So, when I first walked into the room, it reminded me of a sleezy hotel that I would never want to stay again in my life. On the desk, the small notepad usually for guests had only 2 pages. The bathroom did not have enough towels even for one person. The lights are very dim and not well positioned. Even though frugality is viewed as a virtue in China, this was more than thrifty and it was almost an insult to its guests.
The next morning, it was a mess in the breakfast area. After I was taken to a seat, I walked over to the food stand to get some food. When I went back to the table, someone else was sharing the table with me. Fine. I greeted the lovely lady and went on chewing my food. Then, I stood up to get some fruit and when I went back to the table, the entire table was taken by another group of people! I have been getting used to people's rude behaviors in China, but that was still very annoying.
Another thing not so important to most customers: in the lobby, two Boeing 747 airplane models were on display. One is a replica of Shenzhen Airlines’ subsidiary Jade Cargo Airlines. That was fine, but the other one was painted as if it was a replica of a Shenzhen Airlines aircraft. That was a lie. Shenzhen Airlines does not have any B747 aircraft in its fleet and won't have one in the near future.
