We found out about 1BnB on trip advisor and after comparing other places to stay in Singapore - we just couldn't go past the great reviews and the price.
Over the course of our 5 week holiday - we ended up staying about 12 nights at the BnB. We pretty much used Singapore as our base for travelling between Malaysia and Thailand. Besides which there is a lot to do in Singapore!
We stayed in the main apartment (106 on the 25th floor) in three different rooms - the first time was in the en-suite room, the second time in room 7 which is small and off the dining room, and last we stayed in room 4 which is large and comfortable. Rooms 4 & 7 had shared bathroom facilities.
Book in advance if you can - it's worth it because you might just be able to get into the ensuite room. If you're travelling in a group and one of you gets the ensuite then that would be a real plus too - as you might be able to share it between you and won't have to lurk around the shared facilities trying to jump in as soon as it's free!
The breakfast is basic and bland - maybe an egg, toast, "sausage", orange drink (not juice) and coffee - but it's only $5 per room and just getting something in your belly before you go out is nice enough. Mind that some of the staff are better cooks than others - and you get what you're given - no variations!
The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. They are all airconditioned and all a/c we had worked well. Towels were average to poor, no hand towels, face washers or bath mats. It's one towel each per day and that's pretty much it.
We found no problem with the other people staying there - in fact over breakfast we met a wide variety of people from Israel, Russia, Korea, China, New Zealand, Austria, USA, England, Ireland...which always made breakfast interesting.
Bathroom facilities - the ensuite is great. Shared bathroom in 106 is acceptable - basic, quite clean and useable. I can't comment on the hot water - as the tap water was hot enough for me.
There is a second communal bathroom tucked away off the kitchen in 106 - which is supposed to be available to all guests - but is mostly used by the one long term resident of this apartment. It's cleanliness and general state reflects this - and it sort of feels like you're going into someone's private space. Useful though if you have to duck to the loo while someone's having a shower in the other bathroom.
The apartment is located in a group op residential HDB buildings. There is a bus a 2 min walk away which can take you almost anywhere in Singapore for between 90c-$1.50SG and the MRT is everywhere. Literally. We also found that within walking distance there is so much to see.
We often had a quick and cheap dinner at the Everton Park food court - just walk through the lanes or straight down Everton Rd which run parallel to Neil Rd/Eu Tong Sen Rd and you really can't miss it - if you walk too far you'll get to Tanjong Pagar or Chinatown anyway. A simple dinner of Murtabak, Kopi Peng and fruit was about $4.50SG each.
The busses are quicker and cheaper and closer than the MRT sometimes - if you're going to Vivocity, Harbour front, Sentosa or to Raffles, Clark Quay and Suntec City in the other direction.
We found that cutting through the back lanes on foot to Cantonment St and catching the MRT at the Police building was much faster than walking out to the main road.
Price is the biggest factor for staying here. Don't expect a hotel. Don't expect a traditional BnB. It's more like being a lodger really - but not in a bad way. It's clean, cheap, safe, spacious, comfortable and fairly well located. But if you want to stay right in Orchard Rd and the hustle and bustle of Singapore - then this probably isn't the place for you.
Another tip - check the cancellation policy before you book - it isn't published on the website - and frankly it's a little bit ridiculous. Be very precise with your payments/deposits as getting any money back from the owner was impossible for us.
