“Poor value for money and too studenty”

This place was a lot worse than the reviews made us think. It is basically like a run-down university halls, full of 18 year old students-types no doubt on their first holiday away from home. It makes for a pretty cheap atmosphere throughout the hotel, which is (as another reviewer pointed out) painted in inanely bright 'wacky' colours.

Our room was a bit dirty and damp - and even though they say they are a 'no frills' organisation (which is fine) they should not be scrimping on basic hygiene.

The breakfast was rubbish - with as much white bread, over-sugary jam, sugary instant coffee and coco-pops that you can shove down your student neck.

The place also has a small restaurant called 'wild rocket' or something similar. We ate there one night and it was very expensive by singapore standards and very bad quality.

Really avoid this hotel - unless you are 18 and on your spring break or something...

“Niceness, bright colors don't make up for poor value”

I find this place is overpriced, and they tell you "no" with a smile.
My first experience was about the internet. They claim you get "free internet". But there is no internet in the rooms. You have to use one of the six stations in the 2nd floor, often all taken, or you can use a wi-fi with your laptop, that only works... on the 2nd floor.
When I checked in I asked for an adaptor for my laptop "sorry, we don't have any, they are all loaned out" Gimme a break! They skimp so much they cannot have a few extra adaptors around?
The air conditioner in the room was noisy. I asked how to turn it off.... "sorry, it cannot be turned off" (!!)
There was NOT A SINGLE PLACE INDOORS where I could sit at a table and use the laptop. I asked for a CHAIR in my room "sorry, that is not part of our "concept"... but you can have a stool"

It is usual that you get what you pay for. But at this place, you pay a little less than at a hotel and you get MUCH LESS. A sorry tourist trap that bright colors and smiles don't make up for.

“Stay there”

Hangout is a great hotel and I would strongly recommend that you stay here. It is very clean, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the facilities were the best that I have come across so far on my travels. The only thing that I would say is that it is quite difficult to locate- especially at night as I found out! So if you arrive in Singapore at night, don't mess around on the MRT to get there as the nearest station is a 10 minute walk away and very hard to find, so get a taxi. In addition, it was very close to the Little India region of Singapore and if you are a girl travelling alone, take special care here as I didn't feel completely safe walking there even in the morning. But apart from that- it was great

“Crappy Rip-off”

This place stinks. First of all, its a fortune for what you get (although recognizing that Singapore accomodations are just expensive). As a couple we booked a room with a double bed. . .When we arrived they gave us a small room crowded with 3 single beds saying that it was an upgrade (!?!). When we told them that it was not an upgrade and wanted what we had booked, they moved us to an even smaller room with a double bed - but this room had no windows - it was completely enclosed and awful. When we complained again that this room was not adequate they told me there was nothing they could do, and since the require you to pay for your full stay before seeing the rooms we were reluctant to leave. Only after serious cajoling did they move us to room with a double bed and window as we booked. And even though it was filled with mildew from poor ventilation we were too tired to fight anymore. Only pluses are there is free email and the location is convenient.

“A good find”

Hangout@ Mt Emily is a mix between a great hostel (if somewhat pricey) and a simple boutique style hotel.

Simple in that fact that you dont get a hairdryer or wardrobe in your room, but great hostel in the fact that there is free internet, breakfast is included, plus there are washing machines on site for you to use. The rooms are on the small side - but the decor is bright and everything is very clean.

The roof terrace is a lovely place to chill out and the city skyline is great at night.
