“Great for a Romantic Break”

The Scarlet Hotel

We stayed for 4 nights on our way back from Australia. For the level of service and design detail this place gets 5 stars.

Our room did have a window so can see that people may have been unhappy if they arrived to find they did not have one.

Although the room was on the small side we did expect this from the description on the website. The quality of the room and design made up for its small size.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, we only had breakfast 1 day at the hotel which was great although a little expensive. Being in the heart of China Town there are some great cheap food stalls near by.

The main downsides to the Scarlet were:
1) the roof restaurant food was not that great they really need to work on the menu and train the waiting staff a little better. We would not recommend eating there for the price, there are plenty of places that have better food near by
2) we did not expect that a service charge would be added onto our room bill. We were told this was on the website when we booked but was a shock to have to pay more than we expected

Apart form these 2 things though we were very happy with the hotel and would stay again.

“Below all standards”

Noisy cramped windowless room!

The Scarlet has some rooms without a decent window, the window is a low non transparant one, cannot be opened and is against the ceiling of the room. In our room the strange not precise rectangular form resulted in the fact that the bed at its footend leaves 10 cms of space between the bed and the wall, very practical if you want to pass between wall and bed.
Beware also of the fact that behind the hotel are several bars, they use to make loud music until between 2 and 3 in the morning.
Upon our remarks about the noise the staff reported that they were aware of this problem. Nevertheless they rent the rooms to unaware guests!

Other very weak point is tha so called breakfastbuffet. Very poor choice. Included yes, but every other item is on order from a menu.

For a two star hotel maybe acceptable.
For us such a bad experience never again.

Eight days at the Scarlett was an enchanting experience. Every aspect of the service was superb, the staff were helpful and genuinely interested in us and our day. Helpful advice, always warm and friendly. The location is fantastic. If you don't love the Scarlett check your pulse.

“Absolutely loved it!”

Booked stay and pick up directly with the hotel. After a 15 hours flight trip we arrived very tired at Singapore airport. Unfortunately the taxi wasn't there to pick us up, but after a phone call to the Scarlet hotel, the taxi turned up - 30 minutes later. Because of the short delay, the receptionist had upgraded us to a suite from a standard room. We were very impressed - everything was absolutely perfect. Two big bedrooms, a large sitting room, complementary fruit and drinks - and not a least or own veranda with views of China town.
Also try out their roof terrace bar and restaurant - a bit pricy, but well worth when sipping of drink, and enjoying the views of Singapore. Would definitely visit again.

“Beware of the ceiling!”

The Scarlet Hotel

Our room in the hotel was without a window as well. We had no idea that we had previously ask for a window. But when we arrived there and we saw the room we immediately asked for it but we did not get it. Anyway, the lack of window was not the worst, since we have been given a room with a strange ceiling, which was made of glass(???) probably and when at night the rain began to fall we woke up in a horror as we thought that we were under attack because of the terrible noise the rain made on the ceiling. the second night we got used to it. The buffet breakfast is very good as well as the room for freshin-up when you have checked out hours before and you have returned to collect the baggage. That room was a great and a very useful surprise!!

P.S. I have not understood the criteria for some hotels to be named "boutique"hotels
