This hotel is ultra trendy and the rooms ultra small. In our standard room, the bed had to be placed on a strange angle to the corner of the room or you wouldn't have been able to walk around it.

There was also an annoying 25mm step between the bedroom and the bathroom......countless stubbed toes!!

The Scarlet is a very smart looking hotel, red and black decor, fashionable wooden antique furniture and only 5 minute walk to Chinatown. More suited to young people (most of the staff young groover types, but very helpful) I think.

Good location in Chinatown, not far from MRT. Helpful staff got room ready before formal check-in time. Room small but comfortable.

My wife and I stayed three nights on a stopover to New Zealand. We had already read reviews on TripAdvisor, so were aware of the fact that room would be small. What we were not prepared for was how friendly the staff were and how unusual the hotel is, in terms of layout and decor.

If you like walking, the hotel is a reasonable walk (approx 20 mins) from the Quays, passing the old Chinese quarter. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but breakfast offered a good choice, with very good service. Just behind the hotel, there is a local food court, with a huge variety.

It is true that the rooms are small, but knowing the history of the building (a former bordello), this adds to the charm. Our only minor complaint was that the room smelled quite musty, but we have had that in other Singapore hotels too.

Don't choose this hotel if you want a large, non-descript chain-style experience, but if you want something a little more quirky, try the Scarlet.

This was a lavish experience worthy of a far greater price. After staying in many hotels in Asia over the past 18 years this has to be the friendliest luxury hotel ever. The interiors design and colours are mood evoking and stunning to be amongst. The breakfast not a vast choice but totally satisfying with service at its best. It is truelly a boutique hotel where every detail has been thought about. To be able to have access to a shower 6 hours after checking out before going to the airport for free is such a great add on. The room was imaculate and roomy enough. The bed was perfect and the quietness hard to believe. Being able to stroll into the character parts of old China town and check out the trendy small night spots and shopping made life easy and exciting. No wonder its an award winning hotel. I will definitely return next year to this same beautiful hotel. Treat yourself to such opulance. You wont regrett. No photos as the online website shows it so well. Its every bit as good as it looks.
