Well... the hotel is not marvelous, but I didn't find it as bad at all as other reviews suggest. The room was fairly sized, the bathroom was clean and spacious, and the common areas were green and leafy.

It's important to notice that we had been for weeks in India before coming here, and we were used to indian standards. So suddenly, to find western style again, maybe it felt better than it really was. I don't know...

But I had a nice time :-)

The location was tranquil and pretty, with just a short walk to nice restaurants and to Orchard Rd and the metro. And the price was fair enough.

I must say that it was not even in the 10 first hotels we tried in Singapore... we tried to book a couple of days in advance and everything was full. However, I am not unhappy with the decision.

We were not happy with the place we were staying when we arrived in Singapore so we frantically looked through our guide books and maps to find an alternative. Lloyd's Inn was a perfect alternative. We really liked the location, close enough to Orchard Road and the Metro to get around, and the place was clean with spacious rooms. It was in a more residential neighborhood than many of the hotels we looked at, with a great bakery and a couple of little, local restaurants around the corner. The neighborhood was very pretty and quieter than our original location. Singapore tends to be pricier than many cities/countries around Southeast Asia, but Lloyd's was reasonable for the two rooms that we booked. The staff, there was always someone around to help, was really accommodating in terms of getting cabs, giving directions, etc. A simple place to stay, definitely not a 5**** place, but ideal for a budget traveler who doesn't need to be directly in the center of the action, but likes to be near it!

This is a nice leafy area and central. Unfortunately, I did not find the lady at the front counter very courteous. The rooms are musty, and worse of all, when I woke up in the morning, a big chuck of a banana I placed on the table had been eaten by ... what else, rats. Sure enough there was a rat cage set up discreetly on the landing. The housekeeping put a towel underneath my door to keep the rats out (like that was assuring? what if i was trapped inside with the rat?). The person at the reception only said 'don't leave food out'. When a lightbulb went I went downstairs to inform them about it, the lady there said "Actually, we just give you a lightbulb and you fix yourself' - to which I made a face, and she relented, though she was obviously not happy about it. And when you check-out don't forget to return your air-cond remote, for whatever reason ... very strange, but that's the policy. At SD100 a night, there are better deals elswhere, especially on the net.

Motel style with very questionable clientelle. The transvestite who came from the lobby wearing very little night time attaire (it was early morning and our check inn). stated to reception that he'd had a lucky night and would like the room again! A few other clientelle raised eye brows has they waltzed through the hotel. Staff were unhelpful and uncaring. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who was not keen in staying in a bawdy house!
