I didn't read the reviews before I stayed at Conrad. After reading them just now, I am surprised that my experience was somewhat different from the other reviewers. Could it be because we booked through a travel agent and was traveling with young children?

We (8 adults + 3 children) stayed at Conrad for 1 night on 02/12/2008. We requested non-smoking rooms on the same floor, and we got 4 rooms on the 6th floor, supposedly a non-smoking floor, except 3 of the rooms smelled like the smoking lounge. When we tried to change 2 of the rooms, we were asked to let housekeeping come in to ionize the room. Why didn't housekeeping ionize the room before we arrive? We checked-in at 7pm! After we insisted on changing rooms and waited for about 10 minutes, we got the room change.

After the room change, everything was good; the bed was comfortable, fresh and clean. One little note on the bathroom: the caulking in the shower was moldy.

I stayed at Mandarin Oriental August 2007 for 4 nights and had a pleasant experience. Between these 2 hotels, I would choose Mandarin Oriental.

“Excellent all around”

My wife and I stayed here on January 30th for one night. The room was extremely expensive, but fortunately I had enough points in my Hilton HHonors account for a free night, and being a Gold VIP member put me on the club floor with benefits. Had I paid for this room myself, I don't think it would have been worth it for me.

This is a fantastic hotel. Check-in was fast, the room and views fantastic, with a bevvy of extra treats for being on the club floor. The room had an extremely comfortable bed, with a 42" flat screen TV, and a large, spacious bathroom. The only problem we experienced was that our pillows smelled a bit funny, as if they had not been washed in a while, but housekeeping switched that out within minutes.

The free breakfast on the club floor was excellent, though we got a glance at the regular breakfast and that looked fantastic. The gym is above average but not spectacular, though the pool is very nice and has great views of the city. The front desk was extremely helpful with everything, and is always well staffed.

Bottom line: a great hotel with a well-deserved reputation.

“Excellent”

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Lovely big room and luxurious bathroom with huge shower cubicle. Everything you could possibly want in the room including large flat-screen TV. Enormous variety on offer at breakfast and very attentive staff. Quietly located in a cul-de-sac but a stone's throw from the convention centre.

If you do not wish to eat in the hotel, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants opposite in the same street. A 2 minute walk brings you to the Singapore Convention Centre from where you can walk in air-conditioned comfort to the theatre, shopping malls and Raffles City MRT station.

After a busy day out, we headed for the lovely rooftop pool which, unlike most hotel pools is a really good size. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of iced water and sliced apple and were invariably the only people there.

“Wonderful Service and decent room”

Had a 1 nite stay in the hotel. The service provided by the staff is excellent.

From the moment I stepped into the hotel, the staff are very attentive to my needs. E.g. asking if i need a porter to take my bag, chatting with us while waiting for our check-out on the following day, bringing us up to the room after the prompt check-in.

It is such nice little touch that make one remember about the hotel.

As for the room, it is a decent room that is clean and spacious. I do agreed with the previous reviewer that the TV is being placed at a awkward angle from the bed.

For a business hotel, the channels available will be good for the business travellers (most of the news channels are available). However, if you are travelling with your family on a holiday...the TV channels are gonna bored you to tears..especially for those with kids.

One thing to note about the room....it is not very sound-proof. I can hear people walking outside the room and the sound of flushing water from either upstairs or the next room.

The worst thing is..i was awoken early in the morning by the wedding party (at the corridor, trying to go into the room to receive the bride --- chinese tradition) in the centennial suite, which was 2 doors away!

Overall...excellent service and a good place to stay if you are a business traveller. but make sure there is no wedding couple on your floor.

“One night stay”

1 night stay in a business hotel. Nothing fantastic or out of the norm except for their turndown service which is worth mentioning. There's a pillow menu with a choice of 16 different types - but go with the ploh... it's a body-length feather pillow that hugs your body just right. It retails for over USD300 if you want to buy it (based on www.plohdirect.com)! There's far too many choices to explore so unless you're there for more than a couple of days, it's hard to run through the entire list. To most, the original pillows provided are fine. A thing to note though, do 'order' your pillow early... we had to wait almost an hour before the pillows came and had to call housekeeping twice to place the 'order'.

There's the signature little Conrad bear provided in every room. A nice touch coming from a business hotel. The toilet was spacious and had huge mirrors all round.

One gripe about the room is that the TV is very ackwardly positioned at the side of the bed. Meaning if you want to lie in bed to watch TV, you would have to turn on your side (and block your partner while doing so). This is a trade off for the beautiful view that greets you when you wake in the morning with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Suntec City.
