I purposely chose a hotel that's not too smack on Orchard Road but still convenient to get to the MTR. Bayview would be about a 10 minute walk to the nearest Dhoby Gaut station....if it's raining (which it did when i was there), it's not much of a comfortable walk. But taxis are readily available around Singapore as well.
The room is a little above average. It was clean but a little bit too small. The bathroom was also clean and was okay. I didn't have much of a good view considering that i got a room thats higher than the standard one. I had a full view of walls! :)
Breakfast at the hotel was so-so, not many choices although they try to change the choices everyday. But if you really don't want hotel food, you can easily go to the 24-hour kopitiam around the corner. Next to the hotel is also a 7-11 so food won't be much of a problem at night or early morning.
If you wanna go electronics shopping, then SimLim centre is just a good 2-3 blocks away, okay for a leisurely stroll but not when coming back if you have loads of shopping already. I guess Singapore is really very small and it seemed everything is very near each other. I could walk about 15-20 minutes from my hotel to LIttle India or Arab district.
The hotel staff was nice and helpful. They gave us suggestions for interesting dinners around Singapore and were very thoughtful to ask us how it was the following day. They were also very courteous and was always ready with a smile when you enter the lobby.
Bayview is an overall good hotel to stay for Singapore. Taxi is easy to get from the hotel itself and walking around its area is pleasurable.
