“Great Location! Bad Food!”

Stayed here during Easter Week. My bestfriend and had planned the trip months before and heavily relied on tripadvisor. We finally selected this hotel since it's newly renovated plus its located at Scotts Road which is adjacent or across Orchard Road. I believe it was a great stay.

When I was dropped by the Taxi at the lobby, I thought I was staying at a Mall (well like most of the hotels if you stay in this area have shopping malls on their lobbies). It never felt like a home hotel.

Check-in was a breeze. We were given a room on the 5th Floor and we had a wall as our view. It's okay since we had this hotel at a very cheap price (booked at Asiabesthotel.com) and we got it at only S$210/night which I believe is reasonable enough.

The rooms were very clean. Very new and smells really fresh. The air-conditioning was really really really cold which was really great for me!

It has great location and is walking distance to many food establishments and the shopping. It was also near the ORCHARD MRT Station, like around 5 minute walk.

What I don;t like is the breakfast. Though you have many things to eat in the hotel.. I really miss the pork. The hotel I heard is owned by the Sultan of Brunei making it a haven for our Muslim brothers.. hence the food.

Over-all I like it. But I will prefer another hotel just to have that home-like feel.

“Fantastic hotel”

Wonderful hotel. We were upgraded to a premier room - very nice - big comfy bed - husband loved the plasma TV. I liked the complimentary mini bar :) The bathroom was fabulous but kept the blind down - very disconcerting using the loo in front of anyone I think - not sure why they have a huge window between the bedroom and the bathroom really - kinky :) Included in our rate was either breakfast or lunch at Carousel - we did both. Breakky the usaul 5 star selection but lunch was unbelievable. We have eaten in some wonderful restaurants over the years but the quality and selection of the buffet was truly exceptional. I would highly recommend the lunch even if it's not included. I think it cost S$ 35 ++ worth every cent. Yes we will be back. Great position just off Orchard Road. Nice little pool - stunning foyer.

“Great Place to Stay”

What a great hotel. I stayed here for a few days during a company conference also held in the hotel. I can not find fault with anything.

I had a club level room and found the standard, service , facilities, value for money and location all to be excellent. I believe the rate was S$300/night including breakfast at club level.

The buffet restaurant and small bar located in the hotel were of an excellent standard and I loved the sushi in particular.

Reading previous reviews, I had a room next to the elevator shaft and never heard a thing, day or night.

“Royal Plaza - no place to sleep”

Royal Plaza on Scotts

We booked this hotel , requesting a quiet room as we are country dwellers , paying US$196.00/night for deluxe room and stayed four nights in April 2007 .
We had the worst hotel stay of our entire life .
First room we were sent to had no bath tub , we paid additional $35/ night for upgraded room with bath tub .
Second room we were provided was on floor 7 , next to lift shaft and airconditioning plant room . Room change No. 2 soon happened along with our complaint to management to attempt to read guests preferences .
Third room was on level 12 , doing quite well untill adjacent three rooms began a meeting / conference in doorways and passages at 8.30pm . We requested these guests to allow us to enjoy our ammenities without disruption and noise from fellow guests .
No joy there , room change No.3 soon after .
Room No.4 was great , had bath , but no hot water .
Hotel attempted to rectify water temperature , without success .
Kept awake by fellow guests with loud television and room doors banging closed , most of the night .
Second night , again noise from room doors slamming closed and fellow guests .
Third night complained to management about noise from adjacent room , and management resolved that incident very well , evenually obtaining us some sleep .
Fourth night , now quite sleep deprived , we now had hot water to bath in , but again very little sleep .
Management apologised , sent flowers and tee-shirts to room , but what we required was a change of hotel .

“Great hotel, highly recommended”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 13 nights at the end of March/beginning of April. I cannot recommend it too highly. It is a good hotel made a great one by the staff, who are all, without exception, the friendliest, most pleasant and helpful people I have encountered in any hotel worldwide. They all deserve an immediate pay rise!
The hotel is nearing the end of a complete renovation, although we saw no sign at all of this going on during our stay. Our room was of ample size and exceptionally clean and comfortable. We had a club room on the 15th floor, which meant the bathroom contained a bath tub as well as large separate (rain) shower. It was well stocked with toiletries which were replenished daily. One oddity is the large plate glass window between the bathroom and the sleeping area - but it has a blind which can be drawn for privacy. There was a good sized desk in the room, a huge bed, a flat screen TV mounted on the wall and a mini bar which is stocked with complimentary soft drinks, water and beer, replenished daily. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was a hairdryer, ironing board and iron and a safe, but no clock.
Although the room was occupied by two people, there was only one bath robe provided (but two pairs of slippers). I have no idea why one bathrobe in a double occupied room seems to be the norm in so many hotels.
A club room entitles you to use the club lounge on the 15th floor, where complimentary breakfast (a very wide choice of hot and cold, local and western dishes) and afternoon tea (again hot and cold, local and western dishes) is served. Between 6.00pm and 8.00pm complimentary alcoholic drinks and hot and cold food is available. This is advertised as cocktails and canapes, but in fact you can have any alcoholic drink you want, and the food is more substantial than you might expect. Unless you have a very hearty appetite you could easily survive on the complimentary food provided. There are two PCs in the lounge for guests to use.
A word of warning to smokers - this really is a 100% non smoking hotel. There was an ashtray situated outside the hotel for guests to use when we arrived, but it had been removed by the end of our stay. It is not illegal to smoke in the street in Singapore, but it is clearly disliked by many Singaporeans, who make their distaste very clear.
The hotel has a bus stop right outside and the MRT underground rail system is just a few minutes walk away. If I am lucky enough to visit Singapore again I will certainly stay in this hotel.

    • Liked — The excellent staff
    • Disliked — No concession whatsoever to smokers.
