Do NOT book your stay at PanPacific.com. Their website purportedly offered a "stay 2 nights & get another one free" offer when you use your American Express card. I chose that offer and booked my stay 2 months in advance. Got the confirmation and thought all was well.

When checking in, I asked to confirm that I'll be getting the extra night for free. They said... NO!

Apparently, they said my booking was not made under the correct category. After demonstrating EXACTLY how I made the booking and how I EXACTLY chose the Amex offer rate, they still refused to honour it.

I find such service out of line for such a hotel.

Truly SUCKS!

I have lost count of the number of times I have visited Singapore - lets face it, if you like food, this is the place to be! I have to admit that when I choose a hotel in Singapore, I often let the price decide, because the quality of all of the hotels I have stayed in here has been excellent. I reserved a deluxe room at the Pan Pacific for two nights, paid around 290 Singapore dollars for the experience and have no complaints. I felt looked after from the moment I arrived ( which included an in-room check-in) until I left (a 30-second check-out). The room was comfortable, well-furnished. The position of the hotel itself is great if you want to be in the colonial district; there are several large shopping centres on the doorstep, loads of restaurants and food courts (don't overlook Singaporean foodcourts - they are really excellent and totally spotless). I got what I paid for ...and then some.

I stayed at Pan Paicific for 6 nights on a business trip. The hotel stay is by far my best lodging experience while traveling for work!

Location - right in the center of the pricy colonial district. It's great for both business/leisure. It's got indoor walkway through a shopping mall to suntec center, so you won't even be exposed to the tropical humidity. Orchard Road (for shopping, not that there's not enough shopping within walking distance of the hotel), is only a brief bus/subway/cab ride away.

Room - tastefully decorated in neutral tone. Bathroom has separate shower/bath. Bath tub is generously sized, I used it every night. The room has central light control, very much like any 4+ star hotel rooms in Asia (Japan, HK, Taiwan). Nice audio/visual capabilities w/ the flat screen TV and wireless internet ready.

Food - I had room service about 4 times during my stay for both breakfast and dinner. The eggs benedict is one of the best I've had. Didn't have a chance to try the restaurants, but I dare say they probably measure up to the rest of the hotel services well.

Amenities - large outdoor pool, which never got busy during my stay there (I had a direct view of the pool from my room).

Service - extremely efficient front desk and concierge, no compliants whatsoever!

Overall, I just wish that the 5 star hotels in the US could be as nice as Pan Pacific!

Tips -

Singapore is such an easy country to travel to. There's great shopping and food all around town.

Many travel books suggest a day trip to the Sentosa Island. I did just that. However, I don't recommend at all, unless you've kids (even then, there are better attractions on the mainland). The island is full of man made attractions. I was not impressed with anything at all. You'd be disappointed if you're a nature lover or want a taste of the south east asia.

I stayed at one of the suites which facing the pool. Nice view from the room. When I checked in, a lady called Aki at the reception was very polite and handle my requests very well.

My suite was cleaned and comes with the welcome fruits and a box of chocolate! Bravo to the management for the little thought!

I went to the spa in the afternoon and couldn't locate the spa meant for hotel guests, not the spa for massage or beauty salon. An Indian public area cleaner approached me and shown me the way to the hotel spa. This is what we call "SERVICE"! I have been staying in many luxury hotels and this is my first experience in this property. The treatment that I received from this Indian gentleman definitely will make me want to return to this hotel in the future.

The negative side of this hotel is the club lounge. Staffs were not friendly and practised double standards. When I arrived at the 22nd flloor where their club lounge located, I couldn't locate it. When I got out from the lift, it is their reception area. No greetings or no approach from the staffs there to offer assistance until I approach them. When I went in to the lounge, a chinese lady came and approached us to offer drinks. I do enjoyed the evening snacks served and the view from the lounge. No one cleared the plates when we have finished our snacks. Therefore, I just put it aside on my table. There were only 4 tables occupied at that time and four staffs were on duty. Then, my friend from UK came and joined me for evening cocktails. The same lady came and asked for drinks order. She then only cleared all empty plates. I just felt it is discriminating Asians.

Anyway, the service rendered by your public area gentleman recovered the unpleasant experience.

Hope the management will look at their club lounge staff's attitude and I shall be back and try the club facilities again.
