“Fantastic Hotel”

Shangri-La Hotel

The Shangri-La Hotel is located just off the main Orchard Shopping Street. The hotel is fantastic, from the moment you enter the reception are you realise that you are in a 5 star facility, the welcome is very warm, even though the hotel is set up for the business fraternity. The decoration is quality wherever you look with no expense spared. We requested a garden room which has a far superior view to the tower with a large balcony that overlooks the magnificent pool are, this is surrounded with a beautiful garden and a pleasure to sit and gaze upon. The rooms are well furnished with every possible facility you could require for either a business trip or a tourist stop over. The staff are very obliging with an old fashioned respect shown to the guests and each other. The hotel restaurants provide a good range of food, although can be quite expensive to eat and drink within compared to Singapore city. The hotel provides a courtesy bus to Orchard Shopping centre and the very efficient MRT (Underground). You will have to look far to better this hotel.

“Great Location”

Shangri-La Hotel

This hotel is in a great location - just a five minute walk and you are at one end of Orchard Road.
The hotel staff and service is quiet and wonderful. The breakfast has everything you can think of and more.
Wonderful swimming pool and again quite quiet.
The rooms are large and very clean
Drinks etc in the bar are extremely expensive £20.00 for a small wine and small beer!!! So I would suggest that you go onto Orchard Road and go into Muddy Murphys Bar which is cheaper and has all of the locals in there.

“Absolutely Fantastic!”

Shangri-La Hotel

5 of 5 stars

It's over 3 years since I visited Singapore (May 05) and stayed in the Shangri-La. I feel slightly guilty that I have written 3 reviews for TripAdvisor and all have been negative, so I'd like to write about the fantastic stay my girlfriend and I had in the Shangri-La.

Our travel agent was offering a deal where guest could avail of a free upgrade to the Garden Wing. The room was excellent, as were the rest of the facilities. The spa and pool areas are luxurious and well-maintained. As other reviewers have pointed out, the Line restuarant does a fantastic restauant buffet, well worth the money if you don't have breakfast included in your room rate. My girlfriend and I would normally rise late and eat "brunch" in the Line which would fill us up until our evening meal. Although we might have a snack pool-side later also!

The pool really deserves special mention. The staff were wonderfully courteous; bringing guests fresh towels, a cold facecloth, a complimentary non-alcoholic cocktail. We spent many, many hours relaxing in and by the pool. It is truly wonderful. We also ate in the hotel's Chinese restaurant "Shang Palace" which, as far as I can remember, was very nice.

The only things about this hotel that are remotely negative for me are the location and the fact that the hotel doean't have a "bar". The beautiful lobby serves as the lounge bar; it's nice, but it's not very intimate for having a pre-dinner drink. The location, as other reviewers have noted, is not great. It's about a 10 minute walk to the subway (more painful than it sounds, given Singapore's humidity), but taxis are cheap and plentiful.

Despite staying there 3 years ago, the Shangri-La is very much in my mind at the moment as my girlfriend are booked to go back there as part of our honeymoon in November. It being rainy season, we may not get a chance to leave the hotel, but we don't mind, it's that good!

Seriously, don't consider any other hotel in Singapore, it's fantastic.

“Serenity & luxury”

Shangri-La Hotel

Jul 3, 2008

We recently had a week in Singapore and were very pleased to have chosen the Shangri-La as our base.

The hotel was built as a flagship, and whilst it may be a little dated in some areas, the grandeur is still very evident.

After a busy day of playing tourist it was always a delightful experience to return to the cooling, lush garden environment and the friendly welcoming staff, that are Shangri-La.

The buffet breakfasts were always a great start to the day, and dinner in the Blu restaurant, with spectacular views of the city skyline, was something special.

Overall, we had a superb time at the Shangri-La and would be happy to return when next in Singapore.

Stayed here for 3 nights in June 2008 on a stopover to Phuket..

As it was part of my honeymoon i emailed the hotel prior to let them know and on arrival we were met at the airport (i had booked a transfer in a hotel car prior to arrival) and infomed that we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a 1 bedroom Suite in the Valley Wing (i had booked a tower wing horizon club premier room to start with)..Check in was brief and carried out in our suite by our personal butler and we were informed of all of the benefits of the Valley wing itself, too many to mention here.

Complimentary champagne was available on tap at any time of the day or night in the valley wing lobby along with numerous sandwiches etc and breakfast was taken in the private summit room although we tended to opt for the line restaurant (great food and impeccable restaurant design). On a couple of nights we had cocktails in Blu, the bar at the top of the tower wing with great views over singapore.

The pool area was great and generally quiet with pool staff tending to our every need.

Ignore some reviewer's comments about the location of the hotel, it is about 5 minutes walk maximum from Orchard Road and taxis are everywhere if you don't fancy the walk. I had also read reviews saying that the location in Singapore was relatively out of the way for tourist spots, well i suppose it is but if you look at the fact that it is in a quiet corner of the city out of the way of the hustle and bustle..that is a positive rather than a negative, and when a taxi costs no more than £4 each way to get you to Raffles or indeed, anywhere else, i would say it's a no-brainer.

I think it is also important to mention that this hotel is the flagship of a large luxury asian hotel company and as such, the design is pure asian...i think that this is something that is missed in all of the other large american hotels (four seasons etc) and is an important part of the ambience of the hotel, when in Rome, do as the Romans if you know what i mean. I could have stayed in the Four Seasons or the Ritz Carlton but they are just too generic.

As a conclusion, i would say that having spent a good ammount of time at the hotel in those 3 days, i would easily class it as one of the best i've stayed in, the facilites are second to none and the staff are only too happy to help you in any way. I would love to visit Singapore again some time and i honestly couldn't imagine finding anywhere that would even come close to this place...
