“LOVED the Furama”

Furama City Centre

5 of 5 stars
Columbia, Maryland
Mar 26, 2008

We had a wonderful stay at the Furama City Centre. The staff was most welcoming for our 1am arrival, and quickly checked us in to our room. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and had all the right amenities. This hotel had an amazing location, right in the heart of Chinatown. We were able to leave our room and hit the streets in just a few minutes. Our friend joined us on this trip and had a room with a view of the esplanade, which was better than our view of Chinatown, so I would request a high-floor esplanade view room. The hotel's skyline makes it easy to find from many points in the city, which is nice.

We booked our room on expedia.com, but we found out afterward that the Furama hotel chain has its own website where you can directly book rooms for the same rate and possibly secure free breakfast.

Give yourself extra time for checkout - checking out took longer than the average hotel, in my experience. Also, jumping in a cab from hotels in Singapore adds a few dollars surcharge to your fare - if you stay here, just cross the street and hail your own cab if you don't want to pay this surcharge. Definitely would stay here again and recommend the hotel to anyone who needs a place to stay in Singapore.

“Good hotel - noisy lifts”

Furama City Centre

Mar 5, 2008

Last year, I requested a non-smoking quiet room and was allocated a smoking room next to the noisy lifts! After complaining to the manager, I was moved to the non-smoking floor , with a room at the end of the corridor overlooking the river.
This year, my room was on the non-smoking floor, but with a back view and partial view of the swimming pool. But room was good-sized, clean and everything in good condition, but I was only 2 rooms away from the lifts and could still hear the rumbles in the early hours of the morning when all is very quiet. I have complained again about the noise from the lifts. I only ate breakfast in the restaurant once as the food manager was rather abrupt and wanted to close and the buffet food was cleared whilst several of use were still eating. I found this buffet limited and expensive. This hotel is situated very close to Chinatown and 10 min walk to Clarke Quay, so there are plenty of places to eat. The staff, particulary the porters are very pleasant, and I think this is good value and would stay here again.

This hotel is in a great central location close to Clarke Quay restaurants and train. Had a room with a king size bed and a newly renovated bathroom. Lovely views. Were there for just a one night stopover, but would stay at this hotel again.

“Overall - Good”

My wife and I booked this hotel for a 5 night stay. Upon arrival our bags were taken by the bell boy. We checked in with no problems and given a room on a non smoking floor as requested. We had a corner room which was spacious. The hotel is in walking distance of china town, clarke quay and the underground. The downside to the room was that we had a door connected to the next room. We could hear everything they said and especially the TV noise. We complained to the reception and they said they would let the person know. The next day a family moved in which still continued to make a noice. Again we complained and this time they said they would not put anyone in that room. They also offered us a late checked out 4pm. The bathroom was a little old but was in working order. The facilities of the gym were good and hotel offered restuarants and bars. The room service is not that good as the food came cold. Would recommend this hotel but avoid a corner room with a connecting door to the next room.

“Good location, staff helpful but old and dirty hotel”

Firstly, the location of this hotel is good as it is walking distance to Chinatown, Clarke Quay and the food court at People's Park Centre.

Front desk staff were quite helpful and polite. But this definetly is borderlining as a 4 star hotel which I believe is over-priced. Rooms are quite run down and the bathrooms look like they're from the 80's. On a plus note, the water pressure in the shower is great!

I initially booked this hotel for 7 nights but left after the 4th due to the constant itching i was getting from the bed. I'm not sure what was the cause... Dirty sheets or bed bugs but it was getting worse every night.

Also, sleep also wasn't aided by the constant noise of the lifts, as I was situated right behind them.

As stated earlier, i left after the 4th night and stayed at a hotel called The Scarlet (Finally a good nights sleep!!).

This review might have sounded harsh, but i'm not sure why noone else has experienced the itches that I did... Perhaps it was just me.

Would not recommend this hotel to friends, as i'm sure there are plenty more cheaper and nicer hotels to stay in at Singapore
