“Great Stay at The Mandarin!”

Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

Apr 20, 2008

We stayed for 2 nights in February. We had a great stay, upon check in we asked for a late check out, and were offered an upgrade to The Oriental Club package, which gave us a late check out and loads of extras - basically free food and drink all day in the Club Lounge. We signed up for that, and reaped the benefits.

It was great to have champagne breakfast in the lounge, then return for afternoon tea and take a break from the humidity of Singapore. We then returned for pre-dinner cocktails which started the evening off brilliantly!

The room was spacious, and well fitted. The room had recently been refurbished so everything was nice and new.

The location of the hotel was excellent - it joined 3 shopping centres and was within walking distance to most of the key sights. We took cabs around Singapore to get to the Night Safari and other places and found the rates to be very reasonable.

The choice of restaurants within the hotel was good, although not so good if you are a vegetarian. We found this to be the same outside of the hotel as well, but managed to find the odd meal that the staff could tweak, or that was already veggie friendly.

The hotel provided a much needed oasis of calm and cool after the heat and craziness of the shopping centres in Singapore. We have recommended it already to friends and family!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights en route to Shanghai and 5 nights on the way home to Sydney. We have been to Singapore many times and have stayed at most major hotels represented.
We always book for the Club floor (this is important) as it is a home away from home. The Club Lounge has champagne breakfast, unlimited soft drinks and tea and coffee during the day in addition to cocktails and canapes at night. It is also a quiet haven after shopping/sightseeing in the city.
The accommodation (approx. 41 sq. metres) is first rate and the attention to detail is outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are very attentive when required.
The hotel is within walking distance from the subway which is most convenient if not using taxis.
We have stayed at this hotel many times and rate it 1st or 2nd in Singapore.

My wife and I stayed here for 7 days and we absolutely loved it. The entire hotel staff was very polite, friendly, and catered to our every need. The restaurants were great, especially breakfast at Melt the world cafe. The location was perfect as you can walk to the major attractions or take the MRT to anywhere in Singapore. We would definitely stay here again.

“Excellent Hotell”

Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

We stayed 3 nights at the Mandarin Oriental at the beginning of our recent 3 week trip to Singapore and Thailand.

We arrived at the hotel at 7am in the morning after a long and tiring flight. Despite check in not being until 2pm, and the hotel being fairly full, we were able to get access to our room by 8.30am after having had breakfast in the hotel's restuarant.

Public areas in the hotel were very nice, with a number of bars and restuarants, shops, a fitness centre and a ovel yutdoor pool and sun terrace.

Our room was located on the 8th floor and was very well appointed, with a large bathroom containing both a bath and a double shower cubicle. Both furniture and decor was very nice and the bed was enormous and very comfortable with a selection of pillows available. The view of the harbour from the massive floor to ceiling window was spectacular.

All of the staff members we came into contact with during our stay were friendly, polite and efficient.

All in all we found this to be an excellent hotel, in a great location and perfect for a short stay in this city.

“Disappointing Service”

Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

Apr 1, 2008

We have just returned from staying at this hotel for 2 nights stay.

Previously we had stayed 4 nights Valley Wing Shangri La Hotel Singapore and also 7 Nights Club Intercontinental Bali. Both of which gave us superb service.

So we were looking forward to finishing our trip with the Manadarin Oriental. I am afraid we were rather disappointed.

Check in was luckwarm to say the least. On arrival to our room check in was very matter of fact. No mention of the Jasmin Tea left in the room. We found that later.

Service in the Club Lounge much the same. Apart from Jana he was very attentive and remembered how we liked our drinks. The ladies frequently passed us by and often did not listen intently enough to our requests and got it wrong.

The room was well presented and modern and comfortable. We had a City View and it was quiet! However, the bathroom was very small no bath just large walk in shower.

The only other problem encountered was with the actual structure of the Hotel. With a central atrium from floor to ceiling and being on the top floors my husband suffered from vertigo.
All the six glass open lifts went directly from the centre of the atrium. Quite spectacular if you can stand heights and a number of people found this a problem. Don't come out of your room and look straight over the bannister! it's a sheer drop to the floor!

It was nevertheless an interesting experience, but we did expect something more.

We shan't be returning to this hotel.
