“Fantastic Location!”

Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

Melbourne, Australia

We loved the Novotel Clarke Quay! The location was excellent for a stroll around near the river & there are many restaurants & clubs around (although quite expensive we thought...).

We arrived in Singapore at 5:30 in the morning & were hoping that we could atleast have a shower and freshen up before doing anything that day.. We arrived at the hotel (by the "limo" outside the airport. Tip, they are set rates, so probably good if you are arriving at such an early time because normal taxis charge a surcharge..) and we were so pleased when the front desk allowed us to check in then with no extra charge! We slept the whole morning on the very, very comfortable beds.

We had breakfast included in our rate (we paid about $210 for a standar queen room). Cannot complain. Better than other hotels that we have had before! Really enjoyed it. If you don't have breakfast included there is McDonalds around the corner!! hehe

Highly suggest taking a bus tour around the city as you can see everything & they have great deals! Can't quite remember how much it was, but there is a Tourist Information booth on Orchard Rd.

Overall, we loved it! I couldn't quitre cope with the humidity, but I wasn't going to let that ruin our holiday!!

“Good location”

Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

3 of 5 stars

The Novotel is in an older brick building that has been renovated. There is a slightly annoying entry to the hotel in that you have to take one elevator from the street to the 7th floor where reception is located and then another to the rooms.

The room we were in had 2 double beds and a rollaway to accomodate 1 adult and 2 teenagers. There was enough room to do this and not feel too cramped. The bathroom was large and had both a bath with a shower over it and a separate shower. The room was comfortable and completely unexceptional. Internet access is very expensive.

The outdoor pool is quite large and pleasant, the gym is very mediocre. The exercycles were elderly and only one worked properly and then only intermittently.

We didn't eat at the hotel. I went to have a drink in the bar at one stage but was scared away by the exorbitant cost of drinks. They have a Happy Hour - I should have aimed for that!

Clarke Quay is a good place to be based for a couple of nights in Singapore because of the myrad of cafes and restaurants located there and the pleasant waterside atmosphere. The Novotel is on the other side of the waterway from the Central shopping mall and there are currently no shops near the hotel although t his will change shortly as the mall which is directly under the hotel is in the throes of renovation. At the moment the only nearby alternative to breakfast in the hotel is either Starbucks or McDonalds which are both directly underneath. The construction noise makes them both unpleasant places to linger presently but this obviously won't last for long.

There is a taxi stand just around the corner and the fares are very reasonable so it is easy to get around. The MTR station was just a little too far away to walk to comfortably in the heat of the day.

“Good location, Not enough Sun beds”

Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

Apr 29, 2008

We stayed at this hotel on 25th April for two nights. We were given an updgrade due to a double booking error when we arrived. We were on the 24th floor but not entitled to breakfast or the Bizz Room. The hotel room was small but comfortable, not much room for hanging your clothes but the bathroom was a nice size. The hotel was next to the river so it was ideal for going out on the riverside, although we found it very expensive to eat and drink. The pool was nice although we went down twice and found we couldnt get a bed so had to use a chair which isnt ideal when you want to have a sleep or sunbathe. Singapore MRT is cheap and ideal as the station is only five mins away and Taxis are cheap but for eating out and drinking it is expensive I would say more expensive than London. There is a supermarket next to the hotel where you may want to buy cold cans to put in the mini bar as drinks in the mini bar are over £2.00 for a can of 7UP. Weather was fantastic, but very humid. A nice break to break up a long journey home back to the UK, clean city but be prepared for expensive eating and drinking. Approx £14 for two
alcoholic drink.

“Fantastic view, great rooms, service good but not the most welcoming !”

We didn't get off to a good start arriving at this Novotel. Due to a late flight our arrival was several hours later than expected at 3am. So all we wanted to do was get to our room and sleep ! The staff member and porter on duty were very friendly and we were checked in very quickly. We had an accor card so had been granted an upgrade to the Club rooms at the hotels discretion. We get up to our room and were not amused to find two single beds despite requesting a King (and the fact that the girl on reception could see that my wife and I were a couple). So I told the porter to turn around and back down to reception we went. She was very apologetic and quickly arranged us a king room (one floor higher on about the 24th Floor I think). Despite being tired we were very impressed with this room and the view in particular. The lighting controls were especially good with a comprehensive control panel including night lights many different lighting combinations that you don't usually get. I left the room at about 9am to check Club lounge and find out what time breakfast was until. We had stayed on club floors before and you normally get access to this lounge and breakfast etc. However upon entering and giving my room number the pleasant (but very officious) staff member told me that as I had been given a complimentary upgrade I was not entitled to have breakfast in the cluib lounge or to use the facilities even though I was staying on the club floor. Given there was no one else there I found this a little odd and whilst fair enough you would think that a hotel of this calibre would show a little discretion. That aside, we loved the room and the hotel allowed us a late check-out until 2pm so we could sleep in. The bathroom was opulent and huge and the bath was also large. Only real negative about the room was the fact that you couldn't get onto the small balcony. Beds were also very comfortable. The hotel is very close to Clark quay and the associated nightlife and even on the 24th floor we could hear the music when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel despite the minor glitches and loved the restaurants and bars across the road. The hotel is not too far from the subway for travel to the airport (about 5 minutes walk). Didn't try the bar or restaurants but they looked expensive compared to the range of venues at clark quay. Overall a good quality hotel

Reception on 7th floor, shopping arcade underneath which was being refurbished. Hotel room clean and comfortable. Fantastic views of Clarke Quay. Breakfast excellent. Would recommend this hotel and location for easy access to the city and nightlife.
