I mainly chose this hotel (which has recently been taken over by the Pan Pacific chain) for its location to where I was doing business in Singapore. As it has recently changed hands, there are some changes being made to update the hotel and bring in new standards.
The room I had was recently renovated. It was very small, but fine for one guest. The new decor was nothing special, but fine. New plasma screen and the bathroom had a good shower. The best feature in the room was the bedside panel - which let you control everything in the room (lights, alarm clock etc...) - a very useful feature and I wish more hotels had this.
The hotel's restaurants and bar really let it down. The Lobby Bar had the worst 'lounge jazz singer' I had seen in a long time - it was a real time warp act! I only dined in the restaurant for breakfast (once) - which was poor quality and selection. The next day I went out! I ordered room service once and must say it is easily the worst burger I have ever tasted. There was a separate section for executive Floor guests - situated in the heart of the Lobby. I went here to try and get breakfast (as it was not clearly sign posted) and was ushered away in a rather abrupt manner. If hotels want to have the dated concept of an Executive Floor - dont flaunt them in public areas - tuck them away!
There was a nice pool and the gym was OK. The hotel is close to the great shopping on Orchard Road, but at night seemed to be in the heart of the red light district!
The staff were courteous, but certainly not friendly, or overly helpful.
