The Meritus Mandarin in Singapore is a great hotel. I stayed there for business, but I wish I had taken my wife with me. She would have loved it. At check in, I was upgraded to a suit with 2 baths (a half bath off the foyer and a huge main bath off the bedroom), and a separte living area with dining table and sofa. My suite was larger than many apartments and certainly more luxurious. There were large flat panel HD TVs in both the bedroom and in the living area. The bed and pillows were fluffy and very comfortable and the shiatzu massage chair in my bedroom was a welcome surprize that I used every day; it really helped me to relax . The decor was very luxurious and everything was very clean. There was extensive use of marble in the large foyer and in the very large main bath. A buffet breakfast was included with the room. I am usually not a fan of buffets because of marginal quality, but this one was absolutely wonderful. It was composed of both western style classics, such as eggs (cooked to perfections), pancakes, waffels, hashbrowns, a variety of sausages and breads/pastries/muffins/cereals, along with a nice variety of asian style breakfast selections (steamed and smoked fish, rice and rice pourige, etc). There was an abundance of fresh fruits available and a large variety of fresh squeezed juices (including mango, papaya, kiwi, and others plus apple and orange juice, but even the apple juice was freshly squeezed). The freshly squeezed juices were a special treat; I drank 4 or 5 glasses every morning!. I hope that my company sends me back to Singapore soon so that I can stay at the Meritus Mandarin. I rate this place at least 9.5/10.

We booked the weekend stay with buffet breakfast package directly in the hotel website. I contacted the hotel reservations desk to request for re room arrangement and they replied within 5 minutes to confirm their response. I requested for adjoining rooms. Once, we got there at 7pm. Our rooms were not ready and on different floors. We complained and they upgraded us to the South Tower (new wing). The deluxe room was comfortable, they upgraded the decor, the walls, some parts of the bathroom. TV and bath accessories seem dated. channels are few, and no pay per view. The bed though, was really, really comfortable. Breakfast was good, a mix of singaporean and western cuisine. Location is perfect for shopping. You are a block away for takeshimaya, paragon place and wisma. We would book here again.

The main thing going for this hotel is clearly the central location. Otherwise it is just a huge, impersonal hotel without a lot of charm. Because it's so big, it's a bit confusing. It took a while to find the health club but it was fine when I got there. Same with finding breakfast or my friends who were in a different tower than I was.

We were in a gorgeous suite but it was close to some sort of generator which made a lot of noise. Also the design was deeply flawed. The bathroom had those trendy glass blocks in the wall. This meant that when whenever I turned on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, the whole bedroom got light and my husband was awakened. Also, I wish all hoteliers could just agree to bring back old-fashioned bedside lamps and do away with these absurd little lights or (worse) beams from the ceiling.

It has a great location but no good view. All I can say from outside my window is another building. It is surrounded by malls so it's a shopaholic's hotel. Beds are okay. Bathroom is fine. Electrical outlets are good and useful because I had several things that needed charging. Breakfast is good as choices are plentiful but gets tiring as same choices of food are served everyday. Staff are quite accommodating and always on hand whenever we needed taxis. Overall, it was a good stay but not my first choice.
