We stayed here on a recent trip to Hong Kong for 2 nights in a "Sea View with Balcony" room. The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is one of two hotels in the resort and is a very close walk to the park. Hong Kong Disneyland itself was very disappointing and much too small, but we did enjoy the hotel.
The hotel is designed in a turn of the century, Victoria style design. The lobby is very elegant, with lots of seating and beautiful chandeliers. There is even a functional caged elevator that gives off a period feel. Large arched windows allowed lots of sunlight to fill this airy area. The pubic spaces in the hotel are very well themed and full of detail, a trademark of most Disney hotels. There were subtle Disney touches like Hidden Mickeys and other character motifs throughout the hotel.
Our room was a fair size, with two double beds and a nice sitting area. Bathroom was quite nice, with a single sink and a small bathtub. Not too bad for the price we paid for the room (about $350). The balcony in the room was fairly small but we had a wonderful view of the South China Sea. Room itself was nothing too spectacular though. Beautiful, but pretty standard overall.
Our major disappointment was with the restaurants. Food at the park was very poor and limited, but we expected better at the hotel. When we ordered room service, the food was only warm and rather tasteless. Dinner at their flagship restaurant Crystal Lotus was good but very overpriced. There are far better options in the city. The buffet at Enchanted Garden Restaurant was not particularly impressive, and the food was only so-so. The Disney characters were a very nice touch though, interacting with every table and such. Afternoon tea at the Grand Salon was very average. Definitely not in the same league as say, the Peninsula Hong Kong's but much cheaper.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay but were not amazed. The hotel is clearly meant to cater to families and as such, it would not be fair to compare it to a 5-star hotel or expect that level of luxury. That being said, I felt the dining options could be significantly improved upon. And the service, while friendly and generally welcoming, could be further polished. I would probably stay here again but will not make the mistake of dining at the hotel (or anywhere in the resort) in the future.
