Our main aim was to go to Disneyland so it was either this hotel or the other pricier hotel. Hollywood did not disappoint. Check-in was at 2pm and my first impression was the friendly and courteous bellhops. The lobby was very posh and clean. The receptionists spoke excellent English. The room was very clean and my kids were thrilled by the Mickey Mouse logos around the room.
It was so easy getting to Disneyland, there is a big shuttle bus that leaves every 10 minutes from the hotel to Disneyland.
Disneyland was amazing, for us adults and for our kids. It was very clean (never saw any China tourists spitting) and you see cleaners everywhere swooping down to sweep and remove rubbish from the streets. I was very impressed by the cleanliness and I thought it was far better than Gold Coast's Movieworld.
I was told the best time to visit Disneyland was during weekdays, where you don't get much of a crowd, it was true. We never queued more than 5 minutes for any of the rides and the weather was absolutely perfect, nice and warm in the afternoons but once 5pm hits, the temperature takes a dive and it's cool till morning.
We absolutely loved the fireworks at 8pm nightly, we were there for the 2nd night in a row and it was still enchanting to see the fireworks display.
What slightly disappointed me about the hotel was that no complimentary mineral water was given and we either had to drink from the tap or buy the mineral water from the hotel's coffee-shop. We only had 2 meals at the hotel, lunch on the 1st day and bk'fast on the 2nd day. The portions were absolutely huge, so I suggest you share the meal rather than go to waste. I thought prices were reasonable, not too expensive. For 2 adults and 2 children, we spent about HKG200 for 2 big plates of spaghetti, 1 plate of rice with pork cutlet & 2 bottles of mineral water. The next morning we had the local bk'fast of dim sum which was so filling as the portions were large.
My 2nd disappointment was with 'Breakfast with Mickey' that we had the next day. While we were checking in on the 1st day, we decided to take the bk'fast with Mickey, I thought it would be nice and that the kids would enjoy it. We got the the restaurant at 9am, it was a fancy chinese restaurant and the food was really very good, we had like 4 'courses' of bk'fast. I was told that Mickey and his friends would come out and mingle with the kids. Imaging our disappointment that only 2 characters came out for 1 minute just for photos, it was 'Mulan' whom my children were not familiar with and of course Mickey Mouse, but dressed in a Chinese outfit. They just came out for a minute, stood there while we took photos of them and the kids, then disappeared into the kitchen. Our disappointment was however appeased by the fantastic breakfast!
If you're not carrying much luggage and if you intend to go to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island from Disneyland, it's so convenient to take the MTR, which is at the doorstep of Disneyland. It's fantastic, it's so convenient and such a pleasant ride.
The hotel grounds are huge and they have a huge well manicured garden which my kids played in on our last day. My family enjoyed ourselves tremendously and we intend to holiday here again in 2 years time!
