“Fancy hotel but for me fell short of expectations”

LKF Hotel by Rhombus

I stayed here for two nights for a business trip on a colleague's recommendation. For 1880 HKD per night I was expecting five star. This is my experience.

Taxi driver knew where the hotel was so no problems getting there. The hotel is actually on a corner on Wyndham Street and easy to miss. I would describe the hotel as a boutique hotel, not a big flashy monster like the Hilton, Hyatt or Marriott etc.

I arrived at around 12pm and the reception area is small but friendly. However I was told my room was not yet ready as the check-in time was 2pm. That has never happened to me before, but then again, for a boutique hotel in a small-ish building with i presume limited number of rooms, they would be forgiven for this. Went up in the tiny lifts to the bar for a cocktail and nibbles. Nice drinks and good food but very expensive. One cocktail and onion rings set me back about £25 - about 300 Hong Kong Dollars. Then reception sent up a guy to tell me that, actually, my room would not be ready unti 3.15pm. That certainly has never happened to me in a hotel before. I was kind of expecting them to give me a free drink or something to make up for it. Though the guy was incredibly friendly and polite, I got nothing at all. This was rather annoying as I bet if I was an hour late for checking out they wouldn't think twice about charging me an extra fee. So I went shopping in the pouring rain while they sorted out the room.

Came back at 3.30pm and the room was ready. As I walked in the cleaner was running out - they must have had a busy day or something. Rooms were of a decent size for HK. Had a nightmare trying to get the internet working but turned out it was my PC not their connection that was at fault. However, I was passed between four different people when I was enquiring about the net, and when the manager said he would send somebody up, nobody showed up and the manager had gone home. The promotional literature did say broadband is in every room. They didn't mention that it was 150 HKD per 24 hours to actually use it. They should be a bit more upfront about this kind of charge.

Rooms are nice, of decent size and well designed. Plush leather, large king size beds, leather coach, huge LCD TV, well designed workdesk. The bathroom is very nice indeed with free water and Molton Brown toiletries. Bath was deep and shower attachment powerful. Note there is no walk in shower. Only thing that puzzled me was that above the bath there is a huge window with great views of Hong Kong. However - not sure if it is one way or not, so pulled down the blinds before getting naked! Also, not sure of the point of the glass between the sink and the toilet. Think they did it to look fancy. The volume control for the bathroom TV speaker was broken and was exposed which cannot be all that safe in a bathroom.

Storage space is sufficient too. Curtains as thick though a little tough to pull with the cord.

The air conditioning is rather noisy and I couldn't leave it on all night as I wouldn't be able to sleep, so i left it switched off. The room temperature was just right in any event.

Ordered room service, usual burger and chips, which was nice and tasty though would question whether it is worth 190 HKD.

I was on the 17th floor and be warned the area is not quiet. The hotel is right next to Lan Kwai Fong (hence the name of the hotel), and I coul dhear thumping bass resonating through my pillow all night long. Still, I had a good night's sleep in a very comfy large bed.

Location wise, you're right in the middle of central HK. Location could not really be any better. Lan Kwai Fong and all the flash shops like Luis Vitton and the Landmark Shopping Centre are almost on your doorstep.

Overall, tthe staff here are extremely friendly, and will refer you by name wherever you go which is a great touch. I think this hotel sells itself on service and style. However, as friendly and stylish as it may be (and it's not that difficult to be nice to people and stick bits of leather and glass here and there), for the price, it was let down by the check-in problems. It would not have been a problem at all had they even simply offered a free drink while I waited (its not the same if you have to ask for it yourself) but they didn't so unfortunately I will remember this hotel for that especially as, for 1880 HKD per night, there are many other choices in central HK.

“Hotel LKF by Rhombus”

LKF Hotel by Rhombus

We stayed at the Hotel LKF by Rhombus in Hong Kong and absolutely loved it! The staff were fantastic and helpful, and the accommodation was spacious, spotless and really cool. The location was fantastic, centrally located on Wyndham Street alongside all the happening restaurants, and the bar and club area of Lang Kwai Fong (which, by the way, did not disturb us in any way, it was very quiet!) The surrounding areas, particularly Hollywood Rd, Lyndhurst Terrace and groovy Soho are all within walking distance. So too is the more commercial Central shopping area. I thought it was the best launch pad to see Hong Kong Island and what makes this place tick, and will definitely be staying there again.

“You need a lot of cash for this Hotel”

We stayed for New Year & had the most fantastic dinner in the Restaurant on the 31st Floor ( it did cost over £100 per person!). The food was superb & was of great quality & presentation
The location is good for this property & it is on the Hong Kong sky-scaper side of the River. The rooms are small & the problem is that they are jam packed with furniture & kit. So enevitably the rooms look cluttered. Taxis are a problem bescause the Hotel is one a side street & access is difficult. Also you may have to drag your luggage up the very steep roads to get to the Hotel.
Overall this Hotel is excellent, in terms of location & quality, but on the pricey side.

the LKF is very centrally located close to entertainment, restaurants, shopping and everything else. about a 5-8 min walking distance from the Central MTR station.

when reserving the hotel I was aware of it's possibly noisy location, which is why I booked a room on the 23rd floor expecting it to be slightly more quiet. turns out I was wrong, our room faced directly towards Lang Kwai Fong and the noise was, well, terrible. if you're not interested in listening to 90's pop music and yelling westerners at 3 AM every night of the week, I'd advice to look for a room on some other than the north side of the building. thank god I had a pair of earplugs or I wouldn't have slept very well, its surprising how well noise travels up and inside!

the room was quite nice, the lighting was a bit hard to figure out and we never managed to get one of the lamps on. the bathroom was extremely spacious. a small detail that bothered me was the faucet, it was the type in which you can only adjust it the temperature once its at full blast, which means that washing your hands got your shirt wet and washing your face included a hair wash. small thing, but a bit annoying after several days. service at the hotel was very friendly, the restaurant was quite good.

overall we enjoyed our stay apart from the noise, I was going to give the place 3/5 but because of the very reasonable pricing I'll go with 4.

“Pefect location... it means noisy as well...”

LKF Hotel by Rhombus

First of all, we can't expect a better location. LKF is simply located in the heart of the very attractive and busy hong kong life, close for shopping in the luxurious Central area and close to the nightlife and cool bars and restaurants and it's a fabulous advantage.
Moreover, this is a real five stars hotel with a very polite and efficient staff, an excellent room size with a trendy and very pretty decoration and the best bed i've never had in the past. If you ask for a high floor, the view on the city is fabulous. You can expect a very comfy bathroom with sweet bathrobe, large towels and all the best amenities from Molton Brown.
It could be the best hotel in town regarding to the very attractive value and the prime location and style but it's noisy and even if i really like this hotel, it's true, you hear a very strong noise in your room coming from outside, from the busy Lan Kwai Fong street but it's noisy inside as well with the lifts, housekeeping.... Unfortunately, i'm afraid the hotel can't solve the problem and consequently, try to buy some very efficient ear plugs if you plan to stay here.
An other bad detail, avoid the breakfast not good at all.
But i do recommend this hotel because you'll feel how the vibrant Hong Kong is...
