“Very Disappointed”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

We arrived at the Hotel after a long journey (Cape Town, Jhb and then Hong Kong) so we were pretty exhausted when we checked in. Upon checking in we were told that our room was not ready but that it would be ready within an hour. We accepted that and decided to walk around for that hr to pass the time. We came back to be told that the room was still not ready. We then told them that they said it would be ready, and to this they said that they had found a room to give to us. Our luggage was taken to the room to be found that two very single beds was given to us. I asked the staff member that why had we been given two single beds when we had booked a double. He said that this was one of the better rooms. I then took this up with Erik Mak (the Manager on duty) at the time to be told that it had not been booked as a double. I didnt want to argue at the time as I didnt have the paperwork in front of me. I then went to the room and found all the correspondence that proved that a double had been booked. He then said that the hotel was fully booked. I told him that this hotel had been booked long in advance and we should have been told that this was not available. He also told me that the communication that he received via the international agents did not say anything about a double room. I asked him to show me this email to which he did. It definately did not state a double room but the confirmation from Thompsons Travel definately stated a double room. I then said that he should have checked upon us checking in, whether we wanted single beds seeing that we were a couple. We only go away once a year and this to us is like another honeymoon. Under no circumstances could two people sleep in that single beds. They were genuinely single beds and nothing more. I received a letter of apology from the hotel once getting back to SA but that did not alter the fact that our holiday was spoiled by this arrangement.
The hotel itself was clean, breakfast was OKAY. Enough fruit to eat if you didnt want anything else, but the lack of English by the staff was bad. If you wanted them to bring you a fried egg, you had to FIND a staff member that actually understood you.
The room could do with a bit more dolling up. At least a duvet to pretty the bed up. The hotel as other people have stated is very cold - the airconditioning seems to be set at a very cold temperature. Tours via the agent at the Hotel was very expensive so we actually got an itinerary and did all of the tours on our own. Worked out cheaper and we could stay at the places for whatever time period we wanted to. My boyfriend used the gym but two of the equipment was not working.
Would I stay at this hotel again - no (due to the fact in which the complaint was handled). We took no photos of the hotel, as what you see from the travellers it is no different.

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

We are frequent travelers to Hong Kong and have been there at least 12 times before. This time we were in Hong Kong for three nights on a stopover.

We usually stay at the YMCA Salisbury, but wanted a slightly bigger room for a comparable price.

The Metropark Kowloon has much larger rooms than the average hotel in Kowloon (and for this price). We stayed on the 18th floor, and although the furnishings were a bit on the tired side, everything was clean and comfortable.

We liked that the hotel was not right in the centre of TST, where all the tourists usually like to hang. I don't understand all the comments about the hotel being out of the way, with the MTR and buses being so quick, efficient, and air-conditioned, it really wasn't all that difficult getting around.

We never took the complimentary hotel shuttle. Instead, we took the 7 and 271 bus to TST whenever we wanted to get the ferry to the Island.

We were quite happy to eat and explore around the neighbourhood as well.

You get a copy of the South China Morning Post every morning.

I cannot comment on the restaurants, gym, nor swimming pool, as we didn't use them.

All the staff were professional and pleasant.

The only niggle was that on the last night, we could hear our neighbours talking quite loudly. I don't know if this is because the walls are thin, or the people next door were extra shouty.

Still, I would definitely stay here again.

“Metropark ------------ Its OK!”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

We stayed at the Metropark for 2 days at the beginning of April and 2 Days at the end.

Got to say that the room for the first stay was infinately better than the second (4th Floor as opposed to 6th). Having said that the Hotel is rather grander in interior decor than I expected. Check in-out was very efficient and most staff were very pleasant.

Didn't use the Restaurants or bars.

Teresa's cafe gets lots of accolades, but gotta say - not too my taste, very grubby.

Nearby in Langham Place Mall there are eateries in the top floor which have a great selection of foods- much preferred that. Alternatively get the shuttle and eat in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Shuttle (free) goes every 30 mins via Mongkok and drops you off at the New World Centre (TST East) This is a boon as without it it is a bit of a distance out.

TV in room good selection.

Good Price and definately value for money. The 2nd room was a bit shabbier, but even that didin't bother us.

Overall would stay here again but dont book this if you think you're going to be in the centre of the action or overlooking the Harbour.

“Great City Hotel”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

4 of 5 stars
Swindon, England
Apr 25, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

We stayed at the Metropark Hotel for 4 nights on the way to Bali and found this to be a great city hotel in a good location. We were upgraded for some reason to the club floor and our room was small but modern. We only used the room to sleep and it had everything we needed. It was clean with a choice of pillows and had a lovely powerful shower, although in probably the smallest bathroom I've ever seen.

The hotel's pool was a huge surprise and was bigger than expected - you can actually swim lengths. There was also a gym next to the pool with a Nintendo Wii which was a fun addition.

The hotel has a shuttle which runs every half an hour to the lady's market and the harbour front which was easy to use. We found it really easy to get around Hong Kong, using the hotel shuttle, the metro, star ferry and taxis - all were cheap and simple to use.

We didn't really eat in the hotel apart from at breakfast - the hotel has a bakery and sold freshly made rolls and coffee. There is a supermarket across the road and banks and ATMs in easy walking distance.

We couldn't really find fault in the hotel, previous reviews have commented on the reception staff being rude - they weren't overly friendly but were polite and efficient . They helped you if you asked, just didn't offer or go out of their way to offer.

“What a hotel”

Metropark Hotel Kowloon

5 of 5 stars

Its difficult..Especially for people who are looking for a hotel in hong kong. After all the mixed views of the metropark it confuses people, as it did for me before i went. was very skeptical before arriving at the metropark becuase of the different opinions and the terrible images of the hotel on many websites that just give a totally false impression of this hotel and make it look like faulty towers.

This hotel is clean, Tidy, Professional. When you arrive, there is a bellboy who takes your cases up to your room for you, which is a nice touch. The rooms themselves, are very big for hong kong, considering alot of hotels are known for their cramped rooms. The room included free broadband internet access which was unlimited. This means that staying in touch with family and friends was a piece of cake. They even had a pillow menu, where you could choose the type of pillow that you prefered. The showers in this room were also so lovely, it was like having a back massage every morning for free!

The Metropark catered very well as far as food goes. There was a continental buffet breakfast every morning which proved good value and excellent choice. For evenings there was again, the buffet or for a more formal evening, a traditional chinese restaurant called House of tang.

The Metropark also had a great gym with a Nintendo Wii and a very deep swimming pool with sun loungers round it so you could at least get a bit of a tan whilst on top of the roof!!

All in all, a must, for great value for money, and an unforgettable experience at the Metropark Kowloon

As far as location goes...It may be away from the center of kowloon (tsim tsa tsu) but was no problem. A 2 minute taxi drive to the Yau MA Tei MTR station costing only 15HKG was easy and only a few stops on the MTR and you were in the heart of it all!
