I together with my elderly mom and best friend stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong from April 5-8, 2008 and it was stay fit for Royalty! I love the interiors from the lobby to the hallways to the rooms! When I arrived, there was a long queue at the check-in counter but service was truly efficient. We stayed in a family room (one single and one queen sized bed) which I booked thru www.agoda.com. I thought I got a bargain but when I checked the hotel website I found out that I paid slightly higher so better reserve thru www.royalplaza.com.hk/ to get a better deal! My deal comes without breakfast but you can go to any restaurant nearby!
The room was big and spacious. The bathroom is quite small but it was okay that way. I love the air-conditioning because It really works! My room can be freezing cold if I want to! TV is a flat screen LCD so it’s quite modern!
The hotel has a lot of interesting places to go for shopping around. First is the Grand Century Place which is integrated to the hotel with shops and restaurants plus a food court! The flower goldfish, Fa Yuen Street and Ladies Markets are also around.
Transportation wise there is the MTR which is just located down stairs and another line, the Mongkok station which is like a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Yes it’s quite far to some of the happening places but it has a very nice and FREE shuttle bus service that goes to Tsim Sha Tui (drop off at Harbour City, a luxury mall and The Peninsula Hotel which is near the Clock Tower, Avenue of Stars, the Star Ferry Pier and the observation deck) and back to the hotel. The first bus from the hotel leaves at 7:30 am and the last bus going back to the hotel (pick-up is at the Peninsula Hotel drop off where other hotel shuttle service use) is at 9:30 p.m.
Just right outside the lobby (a 30 second walk) is the K6 drop-off and pick-up point of the Airport express shuttle service which will bring you to the Kowloon Station of the Airport Express, the fastest trains to and from the airport so if you are staying at this hotel the best and most comfortable option is to take the Airport express. Currently they are offering discounts as much as 40% off for groups of 2, 3, and 4! But if you’re on a budget, you can take the A21 bus for only HK$33 one-way that drops you to Prince Edward West Street which is just around 15-20 minute walk.
The Staff is courteous and very helpful. You might encounter language problems with some housekeeping staff but it’s forgettable.
I truly recommend this hotel to everyone!
