“Not so sure about recommending this place”

Eaton Hotel Hong Kong

Location:

Right on Nathan road. Close to all the shops and many points of interest, such as Temple Night Market. I walked to most of the places except to TST or when I got really tired. It is not too far form metro stations. Some have commented that the location is a bit too “touristy”. There is some validity to that.

Room and Facilities:

I got a really bad room. Room was small. I am ok with that as it is in Hong Kong. Though it was clean but room needed updating. There were dirty marks on the wall and holes as well. Carpet was very much worn out and dirty. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom had nice soft towels and toiletries. There were complementary water bottles. I would rate my room as a 2 star establishment or three at best. Mini bar had all the usual snacks and drinks. There was a regular cathode tube TV with CNN station and other basic channels. Luckily the room did not smell too bad. The scent in the room was a bit strong. Might be problem for some.

Common areas, such as the lobby, were a bit small but adequate. There was outdoor space as well, which I think is a bit unusual for HK. I did not use much of the amenities therefore cannot comment on those.

Services:

A strong point of this place. There were people waiting at the elevator on the ground to help you. Front desk folks were nice, efficient, and polite. I found that the service was at 4-5 stars level. There was no iron and iron board so I requested them. They brought those requested items within 15 minutes. Again, the iron and the board were really old. I was very impressed with the services.

Recommendation:

I would recommend this place for location, service but not so sure about the room.

Other tips.

If you like Dim Sums, I recommend Ming Court at the Langham, which is the sister’s property of Eaton. The Dim Sums were amazing. I have a bit of affinity for Asian food. However, I was very disappointed at the food in HK. Not saying that it is bad because I am not native KH. Therefore cannot judge. Just very different from what I have in LA. Did not taste good to me. All the good meals I had were at the Langham: Ming Court and Dinner Buffet.

The Eaton is situated on a quiet street on the edge of the bustle of Kowloon. On arrival, the concierge excel in making one's arrival a pleasure together with the personal attention of checking in. I stayed in a very comfortable suite with a well designed Asian feel to it. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very well designed with the latest Italian accessories and efficient use of the space. Room service and housekeeping was very good. Food outlets were excellent and I particularly enjoyed the new Japanese restaurant with magnificent food and presentation and the best Wagu around.

“Acceptable hotel with good service”

Eaton Hotel Hong Kong

3 of 5 stars
Devon,England
May 18, 2008

We booked a suite direct with the hotel and got what we thought was a good price. However, having just spent time in hotel suites in Auckland and Sydney we were disappointed at the size and standard at the Eaton but we suspect that unless you pay a fortune you will not get much bigger in Hong Kong.
Good attentive staff and the Plaza Club breakfast and canapes were more than acceptable. One night the canapes were all meat and as I don't eat meat I was stuck with the cheese but the Girl overheard my wife saying there was very little for me and arranged some vegetable spring rools from the kitchen.
The suite was fairly tiny and had a lousy view so ask to see the room first !!
The Plaza Club room was in the basement and a bit gloomy for my taste.

“Loved the Price and Location but...”

The location and price was great...was right smack in the middle of Mongkok (10min walk) and Tsim Sha Tsui (15 min walk).

The hotel lobby was weirdly situated on the 4th floor and the lifts go right up from the porch to the rooms which was a bit of a security concern since the guys on the ground floor dont seem to bother checking whether yr a guest staying in the hotel.

The rooms are really small, and although everything seem to be downsized, everything u need is provided.

Skipped all meals in the hotel and ventured outside for food, lotsa nice food along Kimberly Road a short distance away, If you are keen for desserts (which Hkers are really into) there is a small and cheap dessert shop selling great desserts way past midnight, just nearby.

A cheap way of getting to and fro the airport is via the mtr, HK$68 bucks thereabouts. Take from jordan and transfer at Lai King then Tsing Yi.

“Excellent location”

Eaton Hotel Hong Kong

I stayed at the Eaton with my husband for 2 nights in April on recommendation from a friend who currently lives in Hong Kong.

The hotel was perfectly located for the night markets, and Jordan train station. Mong Kok (where the Ladies Markets are) and TST are only one stop away, or walking only takes approx 20 mins to each location.

We booked a room on the Club Level and got a good deal by booking over 42 days in advance through the hotels own website. I also mentioned that our stay was part of our honeymoon, and we got upgraded to a suite on arrival. We arrived at the hotel at approx 9am and I didn't expect to get a room until early afternoon, but was told the room would be ready in 15 mins and was offered breakfast whilst we waited. Once we got to the room, there was a bottle of red wine, fruit and flowers waiting for us. This was a really lovely touch by the hotel staff.

The club level is definitely worth paying a little extra for - the rooms are larger, and the breakfast is great - it saved us a lot of hassle (and money) looking for a suitable place to eat in the mornings. They also serve drinks and snacks from 5.30-7.30pm which was adequate for a light dinner.

Overall, I was very impressed with the staff at the Eaton - they were very helpful and friendly when we asked for directions/maps/recommendations etc.

This hotel may not be in the same league as the likes of the Langham or Mandarin Oriental, but for the price I thought this was excellent, and the location was perfect. I will definitely consider staying here again on our next visit.
