“Simple, clean and not to mention cheap”

The Park Lane

Okay going to Hong Kong from Manila may be cheap but booking at a nice hotel could be a nightmare. With hotels charging between HKD 4000-5000 a night, no wonder this is one of the most expensive Asian city.

We got two rooms

Date of Stay: January 26-28,2007
Room Type: Superior Twin Room
Upgrade: Added an additional HKD200 for a Deluxe room, and added HKD800 for an executive suite for mum and dad
Amount Paid Per Night: US$168.00 (really cheap)
Reservation Method: Travel Agency
Loyalty Card: none

Airport/Hotel Transfer: Too expensive to get one, so I took the airport express to the Hong Kong Terminal, then took a cab to the hotel. If you still want to keep you costs down, switch to the MTR and take the MTR to Causeway Bay and walk to the hotel.

Location: Causeway Bay, I've been staying at the Park Lane since i was 6 (which was my first time to HK)

Check-in: We were on the first flight leaving Manila, so we arrived Hong Kong around 8:30am eventually got to the hotel around 10am, We were able to check in without ant glitch.

Room: Deluxe Room was quite adequate. 32inch LCD TV was great, it had everything a standard hotel room requires. The bathroom has glass walls so you have to draw the curtain if you want privacy. The shower and bath tub are one, which is okay but I have always preferred it if it was apart.

The Executive Suite was quite small, the sitting area is quite cramped because of the work desk and had glass pillars surrounding the bed. The TVs in the room are quite small perhaps around 26 inches, they also placed a small vanity table on the side of the bed which seems to be out of place.

Bed: The bed is okay, didn't spend a lot of time at the room or on the bed to make it really matter. After a long day of shopping and walking, any bed would do.

Breakfast: Didn't have breakfast at the hotel because it wasn't part of the package.

Check-out: Check out was fast, we had to check out by 9am so we can still have time to go around with the family before taking the flight back home.

Overall Evaluation: A good hotel to stay in Hong Kong, it might be far from Louis Vuitton or D&G or Prada but there are alot of places to shop within walking distance and if ever you want to go to central its just 3 stops away.

We just went to Hong Kong last week (jan.14-16). There are 4 adults 1 child and 1 baby, and they got us a connecting room as we requested. They have a promotion for an upgrade to a new delux room with an extra of HK$200/night/room. And it's worth paying, the room is new and looks spacious. Very nice bathroom with the glass wall on one side. Very good location....IKEA just down below the hotel and Toys R us just opposite hotel. Causeway bay has everything you are looking for food and shopping......All imported brands and HKG young designers' are just few steps away, the area is so lively.....many shops open until midnight. There is a big supermarket just right next to the hotel. Times Square is only about 5-10 min walk. Along that walk, u'll never get bored!! MTR is so close...and you can get to Landmark in central or Pacific Place in Admiralty within minutes. Hotel food is also quite goood if you happen to get hungry and dont feel like walking around. But heard from my friend that the old standard room is small and not very impressive.

BTW..there is another good hotel nearby (the Excelsior hotel) but I think Park LAne's new delux room is nicer than Excelsior's delux room (although Excelsior has very nice complete harbour view while PArk Lane has only half harbour view+city view.)

Anyway......I recommend you book at Park Lane for a standard or superior room and ask for and upgrade to new delux (with park view) with a littel extra money. You wont be disappionted.

“Great as Usual”

I've stayed at the Park Lane many years ago and found it a great hotel. Coming back after probably 10 years, it still meets my expectations and more!

We got upgraded to a deluxe room -- for what reason, I don't really know -- and the room was beautiful. I had a nice view of the Victoria Park and the city's skyline. The facilities were first class and the breakfast buffet was filling. Service is quite fast and good too.

My dad got a bad case of bronchitis too while we were there and thankfully, the hotel had a doctor who had consultations daily. He was able to give us the necessary antibiotics and other medicines for my dad's illness.

We stayed in Hong Kong on the way home from a holiday in Australia. We had a room overlooking Victoria Park and the room was very comfortable and clean. Good location, god views of park and harbour. The hotel staff were very helpful and polite. Enjoyed a meal and breakfast in Cafe One. All-in-all a very pleasant stay. Not sure Hong Kong is one of our favourite places but it was an experience we wouldn't have missed.

“Park Lane was ok but ask for the newly rennovated rooms”

We were in Hong Kong August 30-September 2 for a conference and had to stay at Causeway bay to be near the venue. We chose Park Lane as recommended by our travel agent.

Line to check-in reception took 20 minutes as the hotel is full, according to reception desk. My husband & I decided not to upgrade as we expect to be out the whole day and my travel agent assured me this is a premium hotel.

I made sure upon reservation that I want a double or queen sized bed but to my dismay, we were given twin beds(2 single) and the bed seem like tired. And the bathroom smells musty. Fixtures have seen better days. It is a non-smoking floor but the room smels smoke. I am sensitive to this. I tried to call reception but nobody answers the phone so I tried to call concierge and he was the one who connected me to reception. After minutes of waiting, I was told I cannot transfer to another room because the hotel is full. What's the point of making a reservation 2 weeks prior to our arrival???

Anyway, they assured us that they will move us to another room the next day. The room they gave us was much better, smells clean & smoke-free, the bathroom looks newly renovated (glass walls that look into the bedroom). Next time, ask for the newly renovated rooms and that overlooks the park. The view we had on both rooms is the back of an apartment building and you can see clothes hanging out of their windows. The good thing we love in this hotel is their LCD tv.

Location is good, SOGO is like a 5mins walk, MTR station is about 3mins walk. IKEA is at the basement of the hotel. And a Wellcome Supermart 24/7 is just next door. We love the peeled fresh fruits stand by the door. Saves you from the long check-out lines.

We didn't try their buffet resto at the g/f but it was packed with diners during the friday & saturday we were there. My husband & I always go to our favorite, Happy Garden Noodle House on Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui even if it meant taking the MTR.

Will I stay again at Park Lane? Maybe, if only because of another conference. But we will still go back staying at Kowloon side hotels because it is more convenient for shopping.
