“Great Location!”

Regal Hongkong Hotel

Dec 15, 2007

I stayed at Regal Hong Kong Hotel with my family for our vacation in Hong Kong last week. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city and is surrounded by a number of shopping malls, which is the reason why I made my reservation as both myslf and my wife love shopping. We were offered a newly renovated room with a great view of the harbour. Unfortunately the swimming pool was under renovation otherwise it would be a perfect stay!

“Louis XV meets chrome”

Regal Hongkong Hotel

Dec 6, 2007

This is one of the strangest hotels I have stayed in. The reception is
a disaster, incredibly busy and shambolic. The decorations are flamboyant to say the least - think Louis XV meets the 1980s.

I arrived at midnight to check in and waited fifteen minutes before being seen. I then had to sign an acknowledgement of a change to room rates. My agent had advised it was a flat HKD1500 per night but the rate changes were all ofver the place for the two weeks that I was staying. I agreed to the rate changes since overall they worked out to be HKD1500 per night.

To my room, the swipe card didn't work so again down to reception to face more chaos.

The room itself was great. Quiet, good bath but the internet didn't work despite not being free.

The breakfast buffet is extensive and offers good quality food but the
free paper was a local freebie and fairly trite.

Then the phone messages began: would I accept a rate change for two nights? I agreed. Then the next day, another phone message from reception, another rate change, this time more expensive. I refused and got the travel agent to take over. The same rate change game happened to a work colleague of mine.

After two weeks I was glad to check out. At reception I was told I had watched fee paying movies and would be charged HKD196, trival in comparison to the HKD21,000 bill but I refused. the receptionist immediately lowered the cost to HKD98. Again I refused and after 20 minutes of arguing, the receptionist advised I was the type of guest who caused problems.

Definitely stay in Causeway Bay but avoid this hotel; stay in the nearby Lanson if you want a peaceful stress free stay.

“OK but not great”

Regal Hongkong Hotel

Stayed here on a quick trip through Hong Kong. The hotel is OK although the gaudy decor is not really to my taste. I stayed in a newly refurbished room which was not too bad but again slightly overdone with gold-coloured washbasins and a over-elaborate colours. The view was great however. The bar downstairs (Windsor Arms?) is truly old and out-dated. I would avoid it and head out of the hotel. The service was acceptable id a bit hurried at times. Overall nothing obviously wrong but no real wow and there are plenty to choose from in Hong Kong.

“Comfortable hotel in Hong Kong”

Regal Hongkong Hotel

Jul 11, 2007

Regal Hotel was a good experience. It was part of the package we bought along with the tickets, to save some money (and spend it shopping in Hong Kong!!!)

Located in Hong Kong island, next to Victoria Park it was comfortable and clean. The location was very close to trams and subway station ( Causeway Bay ). Causeway Bay is a very animated area, plenty of buzz, shops and restaurants.

The hall was grandiose, a little on the tacky side, with chandeliers and always buzzing with activity. Allow me to invent a word "Trumpesque" (I have been a tad too much in Atlantic City, I am afraid...)

The staff was friendly and a lot of different services were offered, like massage and fitness center, as well as a terrific swimming pool in the last floor with a great view of Hong Kong!

They had a good buffet for breakfast with Cantonese and continental food, from noodles and dim sum to cereal, fruit, bacon, eggs and omelettes cooked on the spot with the toppings of choice.

Our room was big enough to be comfortable for two weeks, with a desk and extra seat. In the bathroom, we had a nice round sunk bathtub where I took a dip as soon as I arrived ! :)

So, overall, a good experience for a stay of two weeks :)

“Absolute disaster!”

Regal Hongkong Hotel

1 of 5 stars
Manila

I travel all over Asia/Pacific for my work, and see different hotels almost every week. This one takes the cake: the absolutely worst experience ever. I stayed in this hotel for only 1 1/2 days and hated every minute of it - and checked out as fast as I could, switching to a much more service-minded and better hotel. My secretary booked this disaster for me, probably thinking it was a 4* hotel, for a week. The issues started immediately while checking in. Despite them having the full details of the company creditcard (and thus 100% guarantee of payment, limit 25.000 USD) they came up with all kinds of lame excuses why that was not good enough and subsequently DEMANDED a USD 1000 "security deposit" in cash! Guess what? Even after depositing that rediculous amount they DEMANDED, the very next day, USD 500 MORE deposit TO OPEN THE STUPID MINIBAR which was locked immediately upon arrival (while I entered the room, even!). I couldn't believe it. Do I look like I cannot be trusted for a can of Coke or something? After the check-in process the frontdesk staff was downright unfriendly and I felt not only absolutely un-welcome, but even like a criminal. The room was tatty, dusty and downright dirty and wornout in places - dispite the fact that it was supposed to be a "Superior" room. I have the pictures to prove it. If you like the style, then they indeed do have some nice woodpanelling and some faux "French" impressionist pictures on the wall here and there, but basically it's a facade and a complete zoo. As so often is the case with so-called 4 and 5 star hotels: the more marble the more BS. Never, ever, will they see me there again, or in any other hotel of that group. I did receive apologies upon checkout, and even the promise of a better experience next time, but I really had it with these guys. SERVICE and HOSPITALITY are not part of their vocabulary. The only thing that is really welcome there is your wallet. Which, by the way, is proven by the other reviewer who they tried to squeeze for a bottle of water! BEWARE!
