After a month travelling through China we decided to treat ourselves to a few nights in the iconic Peninsula Hotel; and it certainly is a superlative hotel. Generous, well-equipped rooms (even a multimedia centre to look at your digital pictures on the room tv!) gracious staff, rows of Rolls Royces outside, appropriatey overpriced f&b, but sitting in the lobby is like being in Disneyland; there's non-stop lines of rubber-necking, gawking, chattering tour parties pouring through it. And that makes the pricey exclusive hotel a boor!

Saw 'The Pen' on a TV documentary of The World's Top Hotels and it ranked number one with many. En route to Australia we decided to use it as a 2 night stop-over. It is a legend and rightly so. Paid for the Rolls Royce Phantom 2-way shuttle, which we felt was great value @ HK$1500 and it was worth every penny. Check-in was fuss free, the room [Deluxe harbour view] was lovely. We had afternoon tea but we waited in the queue with the rest of the world instead of letting someone know that we were resident - this would have saved us 45 minutes, which in the scale of things is hardly an issue. The service was excellent; exactly what we wanted, attentive but not 'in your face' and you really were made welcome by everybody. We would not hesitate to return and would recommend it to any discerning traveller.

“Well-deserved Reputation”

I stayed in the Peninsula Hong Kong in April and fell in love. I was on a two-week trip to Asia (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hong Kong) and stayed in five-star hotels at each destination, but the Peninsula stood above the rest.

We arrived late and were taken directly to our rooms to check in (always a treat to skip the front desk). We had 1 Grand Deluxe Harbor View Room and 1 Grand Deluxe Harbor View Suite for our party of four. Parents were in the suite, kids were in the room. Both were absolutely lovely.

We were in the newer part of the hotel so everything was fresh and perfectly clean. The artwork was impressive, the beds were very comfortable, the bedside controller was fun (turned the lights on/off, opened/closed curtains, turned the TV on/off, etc., etc.), the bathroom was well-equipped -- even the fruit was exotic, tasty, and beautiful. Most impressive, however, were the views. Stunning.

Service is the room was impeccable. Everyone from the maid to the woman who picked up the laundry to the room service deliverer was cheerful, friendly, and efficient. Every request was carried out quickly and correctly.

The lobby was even more beautiful than the rooms. The surrounding shops are only the creme de la creme. Afternoon tea is authentic and tasty. Staff members are everywhere and seem to anticipate your needs before you express them. It even smells heavenly.

One of my favorite parts of this hotel was the fleet of Rolls-Royces. We rented one on a few occassions during our stay and it was great fun -- don't miss it. The spa was also wonderful.

I travel extensively and have high standards and this property rates very highly in my book.

This is the hotel standard that others should aspire to. Went to celebrate my sister's birthday. Recommend the Green Rolls Royce transfer. On check in were upgraded to a suite which was amazing. Room service and food and bar fantastic. Our flight home wasn't til 9 p.m. so we had a late check out at no extra cost. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Hong Kong. Staff knowledgeable and helpful.

“Special hotel, ignorant front desk manager”

What a special hotel. Really fantastic in almost every way. Stayed for about a week in March with my partner and we were blown away.

The only problem was a really bizarre issue with the room when we checked in. The check in clerk did his stuff at the desk (card, sign here, etc) and then he took us up to our room. The only problem was that there were two twin beds instead of one big bed. When I asked him to correct that, he left us in the room for 30 minutes. We didn't know what to do, couldn't unpack, didn't want to get stuck into the minibar, etc. After 30 minutes, we went downstairs to find the guy... he said that he was trying to find another room. We asked what to do in the meantime, and he suggested we go for a walk. Now, in a place world famous for its service, I thought a free drink was in order but they looked genuinely put out by this whole deal.

How many couples stay in a 5* hotel in separate twin beds??

Anyway, in retrospect, it's a small issue that was not repeated the rest of the stay.

You owe it to yourself to order the sweet and sour pork either from room service or the hotel's chinese restuarant. It's amazing.
