We were fortunate to find El Nakhil thru Tripadvisor. Nice property close to ferry so you can get to the East Bank and all the Temples etc. Room with King bed and large bathroom. No TV but AC worked great. Hotel grounds well groomed and maintained. Owner Mr Salah Ali very pleasant and accomadating. We had a couple of meals at the restaurant, good prices and better than expected quality for both western and Egyptian food. We paid @ 10 euros for 2 for food & @ 30 euros for the room. Overall, a very positive experience in Luxor. Highly recommended. I would not bother wasting money on one of the high end hotels.

PLEASE Read.

Firstly, Nakhil is a wonderful spot to stay. It is located on the west bank near all the ancient sights that MUST be visited. The east bank only houses Luxor Temple and Karnak and many hustlers, bargainers and traditional market chaos. The West bank is tranquil and yields a "Egyptian Village" feel. No nightlife at all.

Second, Nakil has AMAZING food. Completely disregard the previous viewers opinion. IT IS CLEAN and SANITARY with no worry of contamination or bacterial risk. A huge menu with both Egyptian and Meddie flavors. The rooms are remarkable with an Arabian feel; brick domes with colored glass. The staff as noted in other reviews A++ hands down.

Lastly, this is WHERE YOU MUST DECIDE, the manager Salah, a smart and well spoken buisness man can come across as quite agressive towards female travelers. I myself felt very unconfortable being hit on not once, not twice but three times. Though no physical touch EVER occured the words made me feel very uncomfortable.

I simply will say this...stay here as a couple (man and woman), I wouldn't stay her as a single female. I HATE to say this but I have traveled the world for six consecutive years now and I must warn my fellow female travelers I felt very uncomfortable with his leering manner toward me.

I am trying to be objective as Nakhil is a wonderful hotel but I soured instantly upon repeated attempts to "Take me on his Motorbike".

“El Nakhil - a great intro to Egypt”

We called the hotel directly to arrange our stay and an airport pick up - they gave us their cell # and although there was a slight hick up with the airport pick up, we have to say we thought the place was great. We felt very safe as management took care of us (finding us cabs, orienting us to Luxor, and they can arrange any tours you may want, including Nile River Cruises.... at the same or less cost than you can arrange for yourself on line... he could have arranged a higher quality cruise for the same cost as we arranged ourselves). Overall, we thought the El Nakhil was a great way to adjust to Egypt. on our first trip there. It was very easy, and they spoke excellent English.

The service is extraordinary, but the food is just ok. They went out of their way to arrange a traditional egyptian breakfast for me, which was not on the menu (too bad). Many people may enjoy having a taste of home, but I like traditional foods. As far as location, I don't mind being on the same side of the Nile as the Tombs, but that does mean that you are away from the shops, tourist infrastructure (museums, souqs, shops, restaurants, Banks) & the more accessible Karnak & other temples and light shows. Therefore if you like to wander around souqs & shopping, you may feel isolated on this side. Most people only cross over to this sideof the Nile to visit the Tombs of the Valley of the Kings & Queens. You do get an excellent morning start staying here, as being first saves tons of time in line ups in the hot sun.

Cab ride from airport, including a stop off at the Karnak Temple cost 140 egyptian pounds(cab driver waited 2 hours so we could see the sound & light show at Karnak Temple) . Direct would be 90 to 100 egyptian pounds maximum as at May 2008.

“Fantastic Hotel”

This was our first time visiting Egypt and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the El Nakhil Hotel. The staff and manager were extremely friendly and helpful and we couldn't fault the service at all.

We booked a taxi with the hotel which was there waiting for us on arrival. The journey took longer than we thought, but this was only because it was a few miles to the road bridge over the Nile. Once we had found our bearings, we used the local ferry to get across the Nile which was very cheap and ran regularly throughout the day and night.

The room was the nicest by far that we'd stayed in during our trip. It was very clean and spacious, especially the bathroom.

Overall we thought the hotel was an absolute bargain and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

“Off the Beaten Path”

El Nakhil

May 23, 2008

We stayed here with two other couples prior to embarking on a Nile cruise. The owner and staff were very freindly and welcoming. As the other reviews state, the hotel is very clean and well maintained. We felt good spending our money with a local family establishment vs. one of the many chain hotels on the East bank.

The hotel is on the West bank of Luxor. If arriving by taxi (from train station or airport) or convoy, you will need to take the vehicle bridge over the Nile which is adds about 15 minutes to your trip. Otherwise, if you are arriving at the train station and able to carry your baggage on foot, there is a pedestrian ferry across the Nile for just 1 Egyptian pound.
