“A true oasis!”

Al Moudira Hotel

We (a family of four) stayed at the al-Moudira last week at the start of our 9 day visit to Egypt. This hotel was the highlight of our trip, a true delight. It is a magnificent property, with stunning rooms and excellent service. The owner is very visible and involved. We generally dislike eating in hotels but we ate virtually every meal there during our stay. The outdoor setting in the flower-strewn courtyard was a fabulous setting for dinner, while the pool was terrific for lunch.

It is nice to stay a bit away from the hustle of Luxor. Would strongly recommend!

“Miles from anywhere”

Al Moudira Hotel

We picked the Al Moudira after reading all the positive reviews, but we didn't see one that mentioned the remote location. The hotel is about 20 minutes drive outside of Luxor on the west bank, and down a lane/track 3 miles long. There is absolutely nothing nearby. Our taxi overshot the entrance when we first arrived as the main entrance is through a small gap in a hedge. Normally remoteness can be an asset but not here. the police do not allow tourist traffic on the west bank after 5pm and so private travel outside the hotel is difficult. Having said that the hotel rooms are beautiful and the hotel food is good, although the portions are small. There were quite a lot of flies around and our tour guide said that they can be quite bad in the summer. Nice place but poor location.

“Lovely tranquil atmosphere & decent food”

Whilst staying at Sonesta St George we came here to spend an afternoon & enjoy an evening meal.
The staff were very friendly & more than happy for us to use all their facilities even tho' we weren't guests.
The lounge where we had pre-dinner drinks was lovely - comfy sofas, books, board games etc - very relaxing compared to the hustle & bustle of Luxor.
We opted for Mezze for 2 for dinner - was the best food we had in Egypt. Wine was reasonably priced too compared to East Bank.
Only down side was how expensive the taxi was to get here from Luxor - best to take the ferry (1 egypt pound each way) & get a taxi from the West Bank (25 egypt pounds).

“Oasis on the west bank”

Al Moudira Hotel

We have just returned rejuvenated from a seven night stay at the Al moudira.

We had a jnr suite. Very spacious! It was wonderful to wake in the morning to coloured lights coming through the domed ceiling above our bed.Room service was good. Towels changed twice a day and sheets daily if you wished. A small non alchoholic mini bar was available and a TV that we never used.

The pool was excellently serviced. Some said it was cool but I took a pre b/fast swim every morning and enjoyed a dip on return from sight seeing. good snacks available throught the day. Massages and a hamman can also be arranged

We ate all but one night in the hotel. Sometime inside sometimes out. We found the menu varied , inventive and well presented. After the meals we relaxed with coffee in the lounge. decorated in deep reds and greens and with candles burning it provided a very cosy atmosphere. It was here that we were able to renew our forgotten skills in draughts, chess and dominoes!Infact the meal that we had out at 1866 at the Winter Palace was an anticlimax in comparrison. The wine glasses on the table may have been finer but service and attention at Al Moudira were more impressive.

The hotel can arrange any sight seeing trips that you want this gives you a chance to miss the crowds from the cruise ships .Rates were reasonable. May we recommend Ramadan and Ali as very good ,safe taxi drivers. you can request them from the hotel. Both polite , reliable and unassuming guys who speak good English. These drivers will also ensure that you get a good boat, donkey, camel or bicycle if you wish to vary your type of transport. Using the public ferry is also a good experience it runs throughout the night.

We enjoyed visiting the sights on the East Bank, we did not find it a problem commuting to and fro. (25 eyp per single journey to the ferry)We did pop into some of the hotels on the East Bank they all seemed big ,noisy and busy nothing like the calm oasis provided at Al moudira.

Although a bargaining trip to the bazaar should not be missed
there is a small shop at the hotel that sells good quality souvenirs that are not expensive and you can browse at leisure.

Zeina , family and friends are present. This place is her dream come true. She is very watchful and probably demanding on her staff to keep good standards. Everthing at this hotel lived up to our expecations. If you want a peaceful break , somewhere a litte different but still to enjoy all the sights of Luxor let Al moudira be your choice

“Disappointing Meal”

Al Moudira Hotel

After seeing the El Moudira in a number of trendy magazines, we decided to check it out for a meal while staying at the Sonesta St. George. We shouldn't have wasted the time. I have to heartily agree with Bear Summit and the rather cavalier attitude of the management bears out the hotel's view of itself. The hotel while superficially beautiful seved a very average meal. We had much better at the Sonesta. It smacks of self congratulation and glossy fashion editors who scratch each others' backs. We had thought of changing hotels but the whole mediocrity of the experience dissuaded us. A word of advice to the management. Apologize profusely to unhappy guests no matter what and move on. We asked to see a room but received a rather lukewarm response so this was another factor in deciding not to move. Must say that restaurant staff were charming but we encountered lovely people atall hotels in Egypt.
