The minute you step into the elevator you know you aren't in a true 5 star hotel. The hotel is badly in need of renovation. The hall to the room is narrow, dark, worn, dirty, and well scary - movie creepy. We had a clean 2-room suite with balcony including a nice river view. I was surprised the room was clean after the walk from elevator to the room. The bedroom of the 2-room suite was a corner room with a narrow chair width balcony, but because of the corner room it curved around the edge of the building to a huge terrace with two lounge chairs, dirty with no cushions (unusable). The sitting room had a separate regular size small chair-width balcony. Both balconies had some dying flowers and were poorly maintained. Thank goodness for the suite, because a standard room would be very small and cluttered. Basically a suite is comprised of two standard rooms. Nothing was different except two chairs and table awkwardly replaced the single beds. Even the two headboards remained attached to the wall in a startling royal blue color. Keys were provided for both rooms of the suite confusing bellboys, the room service, and us... and I do mean keys, not key cards. The linoleum in wood grain pattern was worn through in places. Both rooms of the suite of the same bathroom set up. In the entryway area of both rooms the closet is on one side and opposite are two side-by-side doors. Behind one door is a single toilet with a hand sprayer attached to the wall to use on your bum instead of the usually bidet. Then to wash your hands you must go to door number two which includes the sink and bath/shower combo with shower curtain. Usually separate toilet is great with a sink directly out the door to toilet, but you must open door to entry area then open another door to shower and sink room to wash your hands. Also if someone is showering there is no access to the sink. It’s slightly awkward opening two doors to get to the sink. NOTE: my photos make the room look nicer than in person
The internet was a headache and expensive (25-40USD) in 4 of the hotels we stayed in Egypt.
The lobby is in good condition and seems clean and other public areas open-air and inviting. The hotel is secluded from the city and is great if you need a break from tours and crowds. The service, well they do try. Some are friendly some aren't so friendly or maybe I should say matter-of-fact. I think it's hit and miss. They do have good food and the hotel is an okay place after a hot day of site seeing. Just keep in mind that most 5 star hotels in Egypt aren't what most would consider 5 stars. If you demand luxury go elsewhere. This is more of an older 3 star Comfort Inn with some services than a 4 or 5 star resort.
