the hotel is now under new management and is now called the swiss inn luxor. a lot of tour companies have been told it is closed for renovation but it is still open for business. having been a frequent guest at this hotel since 1991 i would recomend it to anyone, at the moment they are doing some upgrading but it is benificial to the hotel and the guests. having just returned from there on the 28/01/08 i am looking to go back again next year as its like my second home there. the staff are excellant especialy with young children as i had my grandchildren with me age 9 and 7 and they love it just as much as me . the manager is called Ahmed El Edel to contact him direct [--] if you wish any information . i hope this helps anyone wishing to stay at this hotel

“Great Hotel, 3 times so far”

Swiss Inn Hotel

We stayed here on our very first visit to Luxor. At first we were apprehensive, but after our first night we were hooked ! We have stayed here 3 more times since then with another stay due soon..
Once you understand how things are in Luxor then this hotel is by far one of the best for it's price.
It is set in it's own grounds and small gardens off Temple street, right by the end of Luxor Temple, so it is very quiet compared to some of the more expensive hotels on the main drag. It is a little out dated by european standards, but is very friendly and relaxed. ALL the staff are helpful, there is a bank by reception and reasonably priced internet access via 2 PC's by the staircase. The pool is adequate for the size of the hotel and clean.
The rooms at the back overlook a small garden and the side of the New Winter Palace, while the rooms at the front overlook the front garden, pool and Luxor temple and the Necropolis is now visible since last month when 2 of the tall buildings were knocked down.

It is in an ideal location for the local sights, town centre and the ferry to the west bank. also a good place to be able to relax in and enjoy some peace and quiet if you need it.

Rooms are spacious but a little tired, certainly no worse than the rooms we experienced last month in the New Winter Palace. Breakfasts are served in the restaurant, a typical kind of continental breakfast with some traditional egyptian food and an omelett station.

Hamdy, our waiter brought a plate of fruit for my wife each morning after she requested it on our first day and a large pot of hot water for our tea.

We usually eat out for evening meals, but we did have the occasional meal in the hotel and they were not too bad and a reasonable price for a Luxor hotel. There is also an outdoor restaurant halfway up the driveway and we enjoyed a fixed price egyptian night buffet there once with good entertainment.
There is a Italian restaurant by the pool which I ate at on my last day on my fist visit to get rid of my Egyptian currency and I really enjoyed the food.

I understand that Accor no longer own the Mercure Inn, so I do not know how that will effect the hotel in the long run, although it looked OK last month when I called in to say hello to the staff there. Some guests had been moved out because of some demolition work on the road near to the pool area and they seemed upset at having to go ! The demolition work has now been completed and the view over onto the west bank from the hotel entrance is superb now.

We will go back to the Mercure inn whenever possible, I did stay at the New Winter Palace last month and bitterly regretted not being at the Mercure inn. Looking forward to going back there in November/December this year.

“Of all the hotels I have stayed in in Luxor this was the worst!”

Swiss Inn Hotel

We booked this trip with Thomson and we had 2 rooms on the fourth floor one facing the front and one facing the back. Both rooms were of the same tired standard and we struggled to sleep. The noise of wedding party's from the nearby Luxor hotel did not cease until after midnight and could be heard in the garden facing room also. We were unable to sleep before midnight and woken by the cleaning staff and hoovers at 7am in the corriders which were not carpet just industrial tiling & consequently everything echoed. As the other reviews have stated the food was awful, if we went to breakfast it was only for juice and coffee & mostly did not bother. We booked the hotel for the location and having eaten at the other Mercure we assumed it would be of an ok standard. The pool was not heated and in jan the sun goes down early so it was freezing cold in the pool despite temperatures of 25+ during the day. None of the guests ventured in even when it was really hot during the day. I would never go back there and would not recommend it to anyone.
