“Great if you want to be close to the Pyramids”

The Mena House has a great location if you want to be by the pyramids and not in downtown Cairo. We had an older room, which was still nice. The food was just okay and the drinks are a little pricey, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a nice hotel in Egypt. Nice and quiet if that's what you want.

“Amazing hotel with a perfect location”

Me and my wife arrived to spend the first part of our honeymoon at the Mena House. After a tiring flight and a frantic taxi journey from the airport it was nice to arrive in the peaceful sanctuary of the Mena House. Firstly the hotel is beautiful. The grounds were well kept and pleasant to wander through during the evening. We had also booked to stay in a room in the palace wing which was atmospheric and a proved a great introduction to Egypt. There was work being carried out on the garden wing rooms during our stay but this didn't cause any problems.

Upon arrival the manager had upgraded us to a suite due to our honeymoon and personally showed us to our room. After dinner they had also given us a home made cake and laid roses on our bed. I cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness they showed and the introduction they gave us to Egypt. The room itself was large and quiet, with an extremely comfortable bed and clean bathroom. We had 2 balconies which provided amazing views of the pyramids; they almost looked close enough to touch!

Overall I was extremely impressed with the Mena House, the staff went well beyond what was expected and the hotel itself provided a beautiful setting in which to spend the first part of our holiday. Although the rooms are expensive it was more than worthy of the price tag and I hope we are able to stay there again in the future. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has the money to spend.

“Splendid view, excellent restaurants!”

Mena House Oberoi

We spent 7 days at the Mena House Oberoi and had a very pleasant time. Our room in the palace wing had a large balcony with splendid view on the Pyramids. It was amazing to wake up and see our window completely "filled" by the Cheops pyramid, we could almost touch it from our bed!
Apart from that, the "Deluxe" rooms in the Palace wing - the most expensive ones - look rather out of date, in particular the bathrooms which, though having all basic comfort, are not what you expect from Oberoi status and need refurbishing.
The hotel has 5 appealing restaurants which all have good to excellent quality. The "Moghul" may be a bit overrated (best Indian in Egypt?), but "Al Rubayyat" is a luxury place with delicious food and good life entertainment whereas "Khan El Khalili" is very cosy and surprisingly good. Prices are all in all reasonable (to tourist standards) so you don't have to go outside for diner. The hotel also has a very nice large swimming pool area with every comfort. It was surprisingly quiet most of time.
This hotel definitively would be a perfect location for a fabulous and unforgettable holiday... if there were not some negative aspects…
- the in-room documentation on hotel facilities was very limited, thumbed and outdated : the main "Al Khedive" buffet restaurant wasn't even mentioned, the "Abu Nawas" restaurant was still described as a nightclub (which it wasn't any more), the Oasis Coffee Shop (mentioned) didn't exist any more (pulled down!) and the tennis courts (mentioned) were not available… but you had to find it out all for yourself!
- the hotel management didn't respond to our three information requests sent by e-mail : two requests for transportation information from the airport (sent two weeks and one week before our stay) as well as one request for information regarding our invoice (sent after our stay) still remain unanswered…
We had a positive transportation experience with the white CTA airco buses (+red and blue horizontal lines) that bring you downtown Caïro (Tahrir Square, Caïro Museum) for only
Eg.£ 2 ! They have their terminus nearly opposite to the hotel (just before the traffic circle) which is very comfortable. They are a good alternative to the cheaper but usually dirty and overcrowded public buses.

“both the view and the decor will please and amaze you”

Mena House Oberoi

The view from our room was perfect, the larger two of the three great pyramids. The room itself was nice and comfortable. The decor in the hotel and restaurants is simply fantastic and they have fresh flowers everywhere. To add to the incredible atmosphere they also burn lotus flower essence which is divine.

We ate in 3 of the restaurants, all of which very lovely. The dance show in Rubiyat was really good fun.

the staff were friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. They even helped us to get some medicine delivered from the local pharmacy when we needed it.

It is worth shelling out the extra to have the rooms with a view, it is amazing to wake up and see the pyramids first thing in the morning. Binoculars would have been great for people watching there as we could have seen the touts activity much better. The touts at the pyramids are a real pain, if you plan on taking a camel ride round the area then get a camel before entering the plateau, that way you shouldn't get hassled as much. If you plan on walking around the hassle can't be avoided as the tourist police are clearly taking a cut to allow it to go on.

Absolutely no complaints about this hotel!

“Don't miss the experience.”

Mena House was a great experience.

We got there at 2am, and just driving up there seeing the whole place artfully lighted, with the dark shape of the pyramid looming behind was an amazing view I will not forget in a hurry. Check in was prompt and they had assigned us three pyramid view rooms in the old part of the hotel.
Let me stress here, if the view is VERY important to you, then those rooms are ideal. The pyramid is almost right outside your window, almost like you can reach out and touch it. However the room itself is VERY old, and shabby - definitely not worth the $280 you are paying for it. We requested to see the renovated rooms which are situated in a different wing, and they are really nice - very modern, well furnished, the bathroom was beautiful - had an old world charm to it. The water pressure is not that great, but I liked the toiletries - different. They had bathrobes and slippers, and the room came with tea/coffee making facilities. The beds were firm and soft pillows and we slept very well.
You could get a view of the pyramid from the balcony and we were fine with it since the room was very nice.
The breakfast buffet was large and had a lot of variety. Loved the goat cheese, was very fresh. We also had dinner at the Mughal Room - would definitely recommend it if you like Indian food and have the time. The restaurant was full, however they could accommodate us since we were staying at the hotel, though two in our group had to go change since they were wearing shorts. The food and service was impeccable, the singer needed to retire - but it was a good dinner. The coffee shop was adequate, we had sandwiches there the day we arrived.
Would definitely recommend the Mena House for the atmosphere and the ambiance. We are glad we stayed there.
