Stayed for a week in June 2008 at the Alexander. I had a very pleasant experience.
Location - great location as it is steps from the beach and the port. It can get a bit noisy on Thursday and Friday nights, mostly due to honking cars waiting to park, but the hotel's windows are pretty solid so you don't really hear the noise that much. The hotel is also very close to the entrance to the Ayalon (a couple of miles), the main highway running through Tel Aviv.
Room - The room, or should I say Suite, was very spacious, with a large kitchen with a large refrigerator, microwave, and lots of cabinets. The bedroom and living had flatscreen TVs. The bathroom is big, although be careful with the tub. If you are elderly please note that the bath is narrow and is quite high so be careful! The ladies who cleaned the room did a fabulous job.
Breakfast - The hotel is small, so you aren't going to get the breakfast that other Tel Aviv hotels are famous for. That said, the breakfast has enough to satisfy, with a guy making eggs, fresh squeezed juice and lots of coffee.
Parking - The hotel was able to give me a parking spot for $20 per night.
Staff - The staff was very friendly. There were some problems with the room availability when I was trying to check in, but other than that everything was fine.
Internet - Wireless internet in the suites is free! A very nice addition to the price.
I would definitely recommend the Alexander for families who want to stay in Tel Aviv near the beach but also need some space. I will definitely stay there again.
