I've stayed at two hotels in Tel Aviv, the Dan and the King David. I must say the King David was FAR superior in every way to the Dan. On the bright side (since I like to think positive), the view from the rooms was amazing, it's right over the water and a beautiful ocean breeze comes into the room when you open the door to the balcony... heavenly in summer. Also, the breakfast buffet was one of the best I've ever had. Huge, with a wonderful selection of fresh fruits, veggies, salads, pastries and dairy.
On to the negatives... The Dan's rooms were just okay, not exactly modern and a bit shabby in places. The mini fridge didn't work. The room service food was some of the worst I've ever tasted... even the chicken soup wasn't edible, it was a dark colored, unappetizing broth with no noodles or chicken. The bath drain was clogged and left standing water in the tub. The front desk staff wasn't very helpful and at times were downright rude.
The biggest bummer was my dry cleaning. I sent several designer suits to be washed. They were returned to me with designer zippers/tags removed from them. Who knows where those zippers/tags ended up. When confronted, the Dan cleaning department (to their credit) apologized and replaced the zippers... unfortunately, they used cheesy, ugly plastic ones... the jackets looked completely different. When you spent as much as we did on a large corner suite, you don't expect to have your tags and zippers ripped off by the dry cleaning service (which is extremely expensive, and which we were never comped for). Overall, I was unimpressed and underwhelmed by this property.
