“Gem of a hotel on Phnom Penh Waterfront”

Excellent location on the Mekong - near shops, bars and restaurants as well as short walk to Royal Palace. My room comprised of two very nicely appointed large rooms (lounge and separate bedroom), reasonable size bathroom plus balcony, overlooking the Mekong, which was a little noisy and hot. Friendly staff, no lift so walking up 3 floors with luggage is a little challenging. Didn't try restaurant located on the ground floor entrance. Only take Visa card for payment which is bit of a pain.

“Not worth the money”

I would not recommend this hotel to stay in in Phnom Penh.In comparison with other choices on Sisowath Quay.Yes the location is great but so are others nearby for less than half the price. For this rate in Cambodia you would expect everything to work!! The phone in our room was not even connected as there was no phone plug. Why have it there - just as a prop. ?Consequently you need to go to reception for every request!
2 of the lamps in the room didn't work making it very dark at night. The towel rail in the bathroom fell of on 1st use so even though reported our towels lived on the floor for our entire stay!
As has been reported elsewhere the staff were not at all interested in any of these problems & not at all helpful which is unusual in Cambodia. We ended up leaving & staying at the Paragon but could also have been happy with the Crown & Anchor both which still have balconies overlooking Tonle Sap & for less than half the price of Bouganvillier. Not worth the money!!

“Restaurant or hotel?”

One has to sqeeze through a tightly-packed restaurant to get to the reception desk. Embarrassing and disturbing.
Plenty of silk thingees to dissimulate cheap furniture and fittings.
We told them beforehand that a quiet room was very important to us. The truth is that there was none in the hotel, as they had construction ongoing in the back, and a busy street in front. They did not have the honesty to inform us beforehand that this request could not be fulfilled in their hotel. We had to leave after one night.

“Good Hotel & Good Location”

I spent 2 nights in this hotel.

The hotel is a french-colonial style building and is well located in. It faces the Mekong river and provides a nice point of view.
Located in Sisiwath Quay, it is very close to the museum, the royal palace, restaurants and other bars for tourists.

The room was clean and very spacious with a bedroom and a large living room. From the living room you can access to a small balcony and the nice view over the Mekong. The bedroom is separated from the street by the living room, so you should not be too much disturbed by the noise coming from the street.
An in-room safe is available in the bedroom. TV is availabel in either the living room and the bedroom.

The only issue I found is that I didn't like the decoration. It seems to be a mix of chinese/vietnamese/any asian country decoration.
I rather expected a cambodian-style decoration.

PS: breakfast is not included in the room rate.
PPS: the hotel next to Bougainvillier is currently under heavy work until 5pm. Very noisy during daytime...

“Noise from Building Works a Nightmare”

Bougainvillier Hotel

Aug 8, 2006

A potentially nice hotel with an almost perfect river front location. I had a suite with a lounge and very small balcony overlooking the river. The balcony had some rather gangly bourganvilia plants - hense the name, I guess! It was also peered into by building workers from the construction next door.

I booked for 3 nights, but cut this short after the first due to the appalling noise from builders (hammering of masonry and drilling) from just after 0800 until well beyond 1700. The noise was intolerable.
I was warned there would be some noise when I checked in - "Between 0900 and 1500".

Upon speaking to the staff, I was offered a 10% discount, later increased to 20%. I asked to speak to the Manager and was told he was not available and was busy running his other businesses. I was told the bildiong was by the hotel powner who had just bought the place next door and was renovating it.

I was most disappointed as I had gained the impression from the web-site that this was a peaceful hotel and just the place to relax and unwind. At no time did the hotel contact me before I arrived to warn of the problem. Nor did they seem unduly worried that Iwas unhappy. "Not another one" was the attitude I picked up. Potential guests are recommended to enquire about the status of the building.
