“Isolated Luxury”

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

Jul 22, 2008

It takes almost 24 hours from New York to get to this property.
It's not the easiest place to reach: nestled on an island the boat takes half an hour from the resort to the main land...so you are really cut out of the world. The resort is very special for the design and the " natural" look . It's not overly the top done , so it might not feel like a luxury five star property, if you understand what I mean. But it's defenetly a great property . The spa is average , for treatments and quality of the therapists.
If you are used to the Oberoi o Aman resorts , this resort is not on the same level.

“Recommended”

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

Jul 16, 2008

This place is very good (fabulous, even), but certainly not perfect. However, before I get on to my criticisms I should put them in context - I had a fantastic time at this resort, and wouldn't hesitate to return if I was in the region again. The location is simply stunning, with deserted beaches and crystal clear seas (with great snorkelling) on one side, and lush, undisturbed tropical forests on the other. The staff are genuine and charming and the sympathetically designed accomodation is generously proportioned, expertly conceived and well equipped.

However, there is some room for improvement. I won't dwell on the restaurant issue, except to reiterate previous comments about rather bland, unadventurous and inauthentic cuisine. Service can also be painfully slow at times. There is no provision of any sort for disabled guests, and I would advise the mobility impaired against coming to the resort. Also, the standard of English amongst the staff is variable - at one meal, a request for a Bloody Mary and a tuna kebab resulted in the delivery of a glass of sauvignon blanc and a seafood salad (with the resulting bill also including a papaya salad). Also, we discovered that if you leave a "do not disturb" sign on the door of your villa, the staff will telephone you incessantly to find out when it will be possible for them to make up/turn down your room, which rather defeats the object of requesting privacy.

Finally, the resort is overrun with geckos, to the extent that they have been adopted as the "mascot" of the Hideaway. I actually found them immensely endearing, but if you are likely to be freaked-out by sharing your bathroom with half a dozen of these cute, bug-eyed reptiles, then this may not be the holiday destination for you.

“Excellent Stay”

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco

We had an excellent anniversary trip to this resort for 5 days. The accomodations are absolutely beautiful, the resort is extremely well managed and the service is impeccable. The location is stunning (very pretty beach) and the entire experience was relaxing and rejuvenating.

Highly reommend to couples who are interested in getting away from it all. Although it is possible to take boat tours to nearby islands (we really enjoyed - also lots of diving options) or take the resort boat to the "mainland" for local tours - the point of being there is to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

We were able to bid on a package through Luxury Link, which was a savings.

Sandy Ferguson, from Asia Desk in Atlanta (travel agent noted in Conde Nast Traveler for his expertise on Vietnam) also steered us to this place and we were grateful.

“Perfect - Almost”

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

Jun 13, 2008

Stayed here for 7 nights as part of our honeymoon and was perfect (almost!)

The beach villas are fantastic - huge, and right on the beach!
The spa treatments are also wonderful - thoroughly recommend having a joint massage.
We had an amazing private beach barbeque - most certainly the most romantic night of our lives.
Staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful.

All in all perfect - Almost.
Our two issues were:
Food - Agree with previous comments. Food is fine, but not nearly as good as it should be (for the price/resort).
Accessibility - partner has walking problems and the resort is not particularly disability friendly. There are lots of steps (from boats/in restaurants etc) and very few hand rails. Not really acceptable for a new 5* resort. Staff helped as much as possible, and for us it was manageable however it would be difficult for those with disabilities.

Would I go back? Definitely. And wonderful for our wonderful honeymoon!

“Almost perfect !”

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

Jun 6, 2008

My partner and I spent 7 nights there, end of May, after a 2 week tour in Vietnam. The location is awesome, the surroundings make you think of paradise. We stayed in a Beach pool villa, and we were totally happy in there, we enjoyed the private pool and did some snorkling in the crystal clear water. The private butler is extremely friendly and helpful, as well as the manager, whom you see pretty much every day at breakfeast/dinner.

Speaking of food, there is the catch. It is very disappointing. The Western food is tasteless (why offer western food when you can't cook it properly ?). Even the simple Pho Soup I tried numerous times at breakfeast has no taste. We've eaten better Pho in Ha Noi, right on the streets, for a few thousands VND... They really really need to improve their food. There isnt much choice in the food either.

On a sidenote, even if the food is disappointing, go have a try at the Dining by the Rocks, when its a la carte menu. The experience is awesome, something to remember.

Overall the staff is awesome, very kind, and does its job extremely well.

Definetly worth a try, when the chef has improved !
