“Had No Problems During Stay”

The Golden Sun seems to get very mixed reviews on this site. We deceided to take a chance and booked 5 days here during April 08. We took the precaution to make it clear that we did not wish them to take our booking unless they could guarantee a room, which they did. We booked a suite on the top floor.

True to her word, Mrs Moon had the room ready for us and we has a comfortable stay while there. There are a lot of good things about the Golden Sun, the location is excellent, the po for breakfast was nice, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the hotel has a lift, the room we were in was clean, but I have to agree with a previous reviewer that the rooms, especially the washrooms, are very small, and not really suitable for more than 2 people unless you dont mind things being pretty squeezy. Calling it a suite is stretching things I think.

Other guests in the hotel we talked to had good things to say about the hotel in general.

By Hanoi standards and taking location into consideration, I dont feel it is as good value for money as other hotels close by, however, apart from the rather cramped room, we enjoyed our stay here and would have no problems staying here again.

I went on a 9 days trip in Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa. It was a very last minute booking and the arrangement caught us by surprise! We did not expect the arrangement to be prompt and always ready. The staff have been very friendly, and made you felt at home. It was especially the case wheras, I fell sick after the tiring trekking from Sapa, the staff even sense that you are not feeling well and offered to help you buy medication to have a better stay in hanoi. They were also very helpful and gave us personalise service such as; tips on the travel, what to buy, pricing and to help you make purchases.Great service!
The hotel room was spacious, and it sits in the quiet side of old quarter, which gives you a peace of their cars horning. It was a good location to the places of interest as well. I am sure to stay here again! =)

Good Location, near lake in old quarter of Hanoi. Traffic is crazy lots of motorcycles be careful walking around (Beware of pickpockets). Staff is helpful and speaks English well. Breakfast is included on 7th floor with view of lake. Free internet and brother owns Huong Hai Junk highly recommend going to Ha Long Bay for 2 days and 1 night stay $125 per person includes excellent meals and very friendly staff onboard.

Only bad thing about the hotel was no shower curtains. It's a Vietnamese thing I think.

“The best deal in town!”

Spent 5 nights, 6 days in Hanoi. Tried to book the 1st most popular hotel in Hanoi but it was fully booked. Read the reviews for the Golden Sun (9th most popular hotel in Hanoi). Reviews were great, particularly about the service provided by Mrs. Moon and her staff. Decided to book there but was concerned about some folks booking there and then arriving only to find the hotel overbooked and they were sent to a sister property. E-mailed Mrs. Moon re this concern and she replied immediately that we would stay at Golden Sun and not get moved. Booked a room at the back of the hotel on the 6th floor. Had a great view of Hoan Kiem Lake. Room was very clean, although the bathroom was small and somewhat dark. The air conditioner worked great. Breakfast was actually pretty good. You could pretty much order anything and everything on the menu if you chose to. The banana crepes were great as was the Pho. Every single staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. In fact, they bend over backwards to help you. My wife needed to make a few business calls to the US (which can be a real hassle in Vietnam since calling cards don't work except at the Post Office and the hours difference between Vietnam and US makes it virtually impossible.) Mrs. Moon allowed us to use the hotel phone late at night to make the calls to the US. Also, we were allowed to use a computer phone service (Viet Voice) similar to Skype with no charge. The hotel is located on a quiet street in the Old Quarter. The location was great and you could easily walk to the main market of Dong Xuan and the shopping streets around the market. Quite frankly, we don't know why the Golden Sun isn't the most popular hotel in Hanoi. At $38 a night for the deluxe view room, it's a steal!

“Simply the best”

Golden Sun Hotel

London, United Kingdom

A great hotel. Right in the heart of Hanoi's old quarter and yet on a quiet street so you can sleep at night. The rooms were good, with aircon and good showers. But what made it so great were the staff. Super-
friendly and efficient, they sorted out our Halong Bay tour (I definitely recommend the tour they suggest) and our train tickets to Hoi An, provided lots of advice and just generally made our stay even more enjoyable.
