“Very good indeed”

As with most people, we used this purely and simply as a stopover hotel (arrived 14.00 one day, left 07.30 the next and didn't want to change money / go into central Bangkok etc). Booked an executive room.
Nothing to find fault with. Very modern, extremely comfortable, excellent night's sleep. The afternoon we were there, a Thai princess arrived which brought the place to bit of a standstill but service for us remained excellent. Checkin and checkout were both efficient, we found, even though there were plenty of people trying to checkout at the same time.
The pool was lovely, spa pricey but very very good.
Cheap by Thai standards? Maybe not. Cheap by European standards? You bet, and tremendous value for money.
Need a really good relaxing night for a stopover in Bangkok? Take this place.

“Not too bad at all”

Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport

Feb 15, 2008

I stayed here for 2 nights transitting in and out of Bangkok. I agree with the previous review that the internal rooms are a little dark, although if your body-clock is out, this can be handy. However, I wouldn't let this be a reason for not staying here. It is a good airport hotel. The gym and pool are excellent. My only criticism would be that there isn't some form of deli or little supermarket on the premises (like some airport hotels have). Often travellers transitting through don't wish to eat from the hotel restaurant having been filled with airplane food. They simply feel like something small from a 711 or something similar. Whilst all this is close by at the airport, you need to board the shuttle bus to get there which is a bit of a hassle. I note the retail stores at the hotel are yet to open, so maybe this will be addressed. That said, I would certainly recommend the hotel for a transit through Bangkok.

“Isolated stopover”

Had a stopover in Bangkok on the way to Colombo and Thai put me up for 16 hours here. Check in was a bit of a trial early in the morning and they obviously give short stayers the lowest grade of rooms overlooking the lobby. These rooms have no natural light and should only be selected if you're the nocturnal type!
The hotel is pretty good otherwise and the pool area is an oasis in the concrete srrounds of Suvarnabhumi. Please be advised there is NOTHING else to do here unless you get a shuttle into town. Whilst it is a good hotel it is very isolated and I wouldn't suggest more than a 24 hour stay unless you like feeling trapped. The staff are fairly friendly, but I think they are also succumbing to the feeling of isolation and obviously know that everyone is a short stayer. Head into town for your overnight stay, it's only 30 minutes in good traffic.

“Freeze-otel, Gouge-otel”

Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport

1 of 5 stars
Bangkok, Thailand

All the restaurants, the bar, and the large lobby area are kept at approximately 64 degrees F (18 C) or less. One look around, and you'll see half the guests trying to keep warm. What an incredible waste of energy and money! They must be keeping their managers, in business suits and ties, comfortable instead of their guests. Who wants to put on a coat in a tropical climate?

At first the room rate looks okay, but add breakfast, tax and service charge and you're close to US$190.00. The best hotels in Bangkok go for less. Four of us sat down to a simple Thai dinner from the ala carte menu - no appetizers, no alcohol, no dessert - and it was US$15 per person. The lunch/dinner buffet was US$26 with tax and service. These rates are way out of line for Bangkok. And, the kitchen lost our order to boot! So it took 50 minutes to get our food. To keep us happy, they brought one order of cold and greasy spring rolls that had been sitting on the buffet all night.

Most guests were arriving in bunches of 6 or 7 from the airport shuttles, and despite all the staff running around the hotel, the check-in desk is slow and very understaffed, so expect a long wait checking in.

This hotel knows they have you captive because 95% of their guests are on a short layover, so they appear to have no problem gouging you. It's especially exasperating when you learn that nearly all the non-
management staff are paid about US 50 cents per hour, so this place is a cash cow for Novotel. But why waste all that energy to freeze everyone out?

There are other small hotels right near the airport. Give one of those a try. No way this place deserves the high ratings it received previously.

Dear ObservantG...

first of all we want to thank you for spending your time to post your comment at tripadvisor.com.

Because tripadvisor is a platform to post comments anonymously we are not able to reply you in person. We placed all contact details at your mailbox provided at tripadvisor.com. We do hope you will give us the opportunity to get in contact with you. As we can see you are based in Bangkok.

Nevertheless we would like to point out some figures:

Energy saving:

The air-condition at the hotel is constructed by Jardine Engineering Services Company based in Bangkok considering the latest energy saving know how. The air shafts are located about 5 meters above the ground floor and will only cool the area below with chilled air. The air temperature at the fan blower is not cooler than 22 degrees Celsius. This means the average temperature at the lobby is about 25 degrees Celsius. During the hot period of the year about 27 degrees Celsius. The temperature is monitored by our system and engineering staff.

Staff salary:

Our salary structure is fully compliant with the Thai Labor Department regulations. The lowest salary paid in our hotel is 3 times higher than the minimum legal salary set by the Thai Labor Department and far above 0.5 USD per hour. This puts us on the highest level of salary remuneration within the hotel industry in Thailand.

Business mix:

Your figures are not in line with the our business mix. The hotel is well established in the local market and supported by the companies based in the industrial zones at the surrounding. On top of that our banqueting facilities are not only well known for private functions f.e.weddings, we are hosted since the opening of the hotel a number of international meetings and conferences. For sure the airport is the bread and butter business.

You not recommend our hotel to.....:

Last but not least you mentioned you would not recommend the hotel for more or less anybody. We want to point out only two group of our guests.

First: The hotel is very well prepared to accommodate disabled guest. We are providing in regard to the needs designed guest rooms. A nurse is based daily at the hotel to support as well when necessary.

Second: For the disposal of our hotel guests and our valued fitness club members our recreation area enact a 336 sqm pool surrounded by 1.370 sqm , a Spa with 9 therapy rooms and in addition to that a 688 sqm fitness club. All these sections are headed by staff specialized in this.

Dear ObservantG... wants more again we do hope you will give us the chance to go into further detail with you personally. We are looking forward to meet you.

Best regards

“Expensive but very good”

Excelent choice for airport hotel.

Very clean, very nice rooms, very nice stay. The only negative point is the price.

Since my flight arrived at 22.00 and I was catching a 7.00 flight it was very practical.
