Davis Bangkok

We booked the Davis hotel based on previous reviews on this site and others and I have to admit that I was more than happy. The staff are really lovely. When we arrived at the hotel & were shown to our rooms I discovered that my husband and I had been given two single beds, even though I had specifically requested a room with a king bed. The porter called reception for us to request room change and waited with us discussing all the sites that we could/should do & see which was very helpful. Within 10 minutes the hotel had us in another room with a king bed. We found the breakfast buffet to be just the thing to start our days with.

I don't recommend booking a tour through the tour desk in the lobby though. We arranged a floating market & river Kwai tour as these were the two things that we really wanted to do while in Bangkok. We paid a premium as it was a private tour, just the four of us (two couples) with no other tourists. We were very disappointed as we also visited a salt farm, wood carvers and coconut sugar making which are things that we had no interest in seeing.

Because of these additional stops we were only allowed 30 minutes at the floating markets and 1 hr at the river Kwai to have lunch (which was just horrible) and to walk along the bridge. We did lodge a letter of complaint with the travel company as trip was not what we had paid for. I wouldn't have minded one of these stops only, especially the wood carvers as this was excellent, but the way things were we didn't even have enough time to do any shopping at the markets.

But apart from that we found the location of the hotel pretty good, there is a great little restaurant/bar on a side street opposite the hotel that has fantastic thai food (I loved their green curry) and good range. There is a mini mart also on this street so very convenient. The Emporium shopping complex down the road is also very good, we found some really good bargains there. My husband & I walked down here and did not find the walk too far. Also the station for the sky train is near the Emporium so you can easily hop on that to go to the other parts of Bangkok.

In the mornings if you turn left out of the hotel and walk down the road you will find all the street food stalls, so if you are not happy with the hotels breakfast fare you could always go looking for something else. Also McDonalds if you are inclined.

We will definately stay in this hotel the next time we are in Bangkok.

“great hotel, bad location”

We stayed at The Davis, Bangkok, for 2 nights. (April 08) The hotel was great, staff were very helpful and very attentive, rooms were really good! We stayed in a deluxe designer room, which was just enough for our requirements. The only thing i would say that it is in the wrong area,
too far away from the center of bangkok. But that is the only fault i can find with it. I think it is aimed at more the business clientelle, rather than the holiday market, but still a great hotel.

“The Davis - highly recommended.”

I booked The Davis after reading several positive reviews on Trip Advisor. It was my first trip to Bangkok and I had heard lots of horror stories about travellers booking what looked like a safe bet on the internet only to find that the room was not as advertised or was dirty or noisy or in a poor location or all of the above. The Davis cerrtainly lives up to it's billing. I loved it so much that I returned twice after my initial stay. When I turned up late in the day on my final visit I was greeted warmly as a returning guest and upgraded to a superior room. Davis rooms are attractively appointed and spotless. The staff are friendly, professional, helpful. The buffet breakfasts are delicious and fresh. And at the end of a hot, humid day of sightseeing, I really appreciated a dip in one of the two outdoor swimming pools.

“Would stay again.”

Davis Bangkok

Stayed at Davis hotel on New Year’s ‘08 for a total of 5 days.
Excellent hotel. Rooms were clean, breakfast was included. Hotel was a mile from Sukumvit road a 10 minute walk, and away from the busy streets.

Everthing was fine at Davis until I checked out and their computer was not working at 6:45 am and was told that my hotel bill would be emailed later that day. After waiting two weeks I emailed them to remind them about the receipt and received reply that they had mistakenly overcharged me 8221.54 baht. After emailing them twice they credited my card a month later.

I had a good time at Davis and even made friends with a Taxi driver Veera and he took me around my entire stay. Every time I asked him how much he would tell me to pay him whatever I wanted to. I generally paid him around 800 – 1000 baht per day and he chauffeured me around the city picking, dropping and waiting on me. He even dropped me at Club Narcissus for New Year’s party at 9 pm and waited outside until 2 am. Veera’s number is [--] if anyone wants to contact him for his services.

Overall Davis was a nice place to stay, but remember to check your receipt when you leave. Also try the fresh Lobsters at the Seafood market on the same street as Davis.

“Great Hotel in the business district”

Davis Bangkok

Mar 29, 2008

We stayed twice at the Davis hotel on this trip - we have previously stayed at a range of Bangkok hotels over the years and this was a very pleasant alternative to staying by the river - which would have cost twice as much for the same quality.
The rooms were excellent, clean and well equiped. There was a small but adequate pool area on the roof terrace and a bar and breakfast/restraunt area downstairs next to the lobby. The staff throughout the hotel were very attentive and helpful.
Being in the business district the views from the rooms aren't great and you have to be prepared to use local transport, generally taxis when going out - this wasn't a problem as the hotel doormen put us in taxis which invariable charged by the meter and didn't deviate from the fastest route. Getting back by taxis from some of the tourist areas did occasionally result in fixed quote rides (but prices were still not outragous).
Breakfast was great with plenty of choice to suit western and eastern tastes.
We will be using the Davis in the future as it provided excellent quality at a reasonble price
