We arrived at the Shangri La to a very warm welcome. We were really quite overwhelmed at the size of the room and the view overlooking the river was awesome.Breakfast was oustanding everything you could possibly want.Lovely pool.We ate lunch there and it was truly delicious. It did rain quite heavily, but only a few hours then stopped.
Tour East was our representative whilst we were there and they were excellent. We did the floating market trip which is a must, our guide(from Tour East) was a lovely girl, full of information and was really very funny!!.We also went to see Thai Boxing which is a must.

We also visted Patong night market which was an experience !!! Lots of market stall holders trying to get you to buy,and some great leather handbags(imitation)but good value if you can barter. You really must visit to see for yourselves.Lots and lots of girls and ladyboy bars, which we knew about and yes we did go into one to see what it was all about, I have to say being female that I did feel a bit uneasy, but it was vey well run and not seedy as i thought it would be. Use the skyetrain, really easy to get there.

We would definately go back to this hotel,we were only there 3 days before we travelled to Koh Samui, and would have liked a few more days.Really friendly people, just beware of those that are too friendly, they seem to come out of no where and seem to want to get you packed off to all sorts of places, but once you say no(a few times !!) they are not offended.

Shangri la is always shangri la !! i'm a travel agent on my 4th trip in thailand. i experienced at least 6/7 4/5 stars hotels in bangkok and i can say u got to choose this for ur stay in the city of angels(well, if your budget allows u to do that). my seaview room was at 120 euro(breakfast exluded by expedia). i was in marriot resort, lebua, amari watergate, atrium, unico grande etc etc...no way, considering the price, shangri la in unbeatible. as for the location, the pool, the service, the room amenities, the class overall, the so confortable welcome drinking in the magnificient hall, overlooking the river...just cos we arrived too early for the room. and u have the bts(skytrain) stop at 3 min walking from hotel. (20/40 baht tkt price) sometimes better using skytrain that keep fighting with taxi drivers for using taki meter...

Stayed here for a week in April. Were given an upgrade to the Krungthep Wing which was really fantastic. Our stay included complementary Afternoon tea, early evening cocktails and laundry - great. Our room was on a high floor and overlooked the river. Compared to the main wing of the hotel the Krungthep was an oasis of peace and quiet, never very busy including the swimming pool area. Polite and attentive staff, a very personal service. Could not fault the hotel at all. We really loved the hotel and it's convenient location for ease of access to the river taxis and Skytrain terminal. Would stay here again if we come to Bangkok.

“Great Stay - Ideal Location”

Shangri-La Hotel

4 of 5 stars

Just came back from a week's stay at Shangri-La. Great location, handy to both the Skytrain & Central Peir. I consider myself to be a discerning traveller & therefore can be very critical of my accomodation. I will definetly stay here again.
The staff are extremely friendly, as are most people in Thailand & always willing to assist.
As Bangkok is such a hectic place I enjoy looking over the Chao Praya - River watching the hive of activity happening there rather than the traffic jams happening elsewhere around the place.

Rooms are well presented & spacious. Fresh platters of fruit daily & complimentary water twice daily.

Breakfast is fantastic with such an array of so much delicious food. A great way to start the day.

The only drawback I can think of is the formality of going to one of their restaurants of a night. If you are a male you have to wear long trousers after 6.30pm.

Nice Pool & Pool Bar was good. Drinks comein plastic tumblers unless you request Glass & could be slightly colder.
Salathip (Their Thai Restaurant is in a lovely setting with staff really welcoming & Thai dancers are a bit of fun) Great wait staff who upsell very well.

Also an ideal location to visit other hotel restaurants in the area such as the Peninsula, Oriental, Millenium Hilton & Le Bua is around the corner. As are local supermarkets & various street vendors, etc.

Overall an enjoyable stay.

“Great hotel- fab service”

Shangri-La Hotel

We stayed at the Shangri la for 3 nights in June. We were in the Shangri La wing and upgraded to a river view room with a balcony.
It was really large- with a great bathroom- also with views of the river.
The bed was really comfy- as was the sofa.
The service everywhere in the hotel was superb. It was our 20th Wedding anniversary and the hotel sent us up fresh fruit and chocolates to help us celebrate. A really nice touch.
The location is great- really close to the sky train- which is fab and cheap, also the water taxis to take you along the river- also really cheap.
You have to go through the Krungthep wing- and exit to get to the skytrain- and this was really luxurious- and made the carpet in our wing look tired and in need of replacing( But that is the only negative- which does seem a bit picky as it is much more expensive to stay in that wing)
The drinks in the pool side bar and in the mini bar are certainly 5 star prices- so if you are happy to pay these then fine- but I though £4.00 for a small bottle of Evian drinking water- a bit excessive- although you do get 2 complimentary bottles everyday.
The breakfast was really good with plenty of choice for every taste and was in a great location overlooking the river. The pool was also really nice and spotlessly clean.
We did not try any other food in the hotel- as we had other things booked- but the menu's looked quite reasonable.
I must also say that the Concierge's at this hotel were the best we have encountered anywhere- nothing was too much trouble and they could answer everything we asked.
All in all a great stay and would recommend to anyone.
