I booked the dream bangkok hotel at the end of our 2 week trip to thailand. After reading reviews on trip advisor and dailycandy.com I thought we would be staying at the coolest place ever. When we checked in we were upgraded from the classic room to the deluxe in Dream 2. The room was a decent size for 2 people. The decor was nice too. Plushy robes, nice slippers, dvd player to watch all of our newly acquired bootlegs that we bought on khao san road, and the plasma screen tv were nice touches. I must be the only one on trip advisor to complain about this, but my bed was very stiff and hard. You could jump on the bed and it wouldn't wiggle one bit. I think the floor would have been more comfortable. We had 2 full beds so I don't know if these are a different quality from the king beds. I literally laid my feather pillows down on the bed and then slept on top of them. When I mentioned this to the front desk they just looked at me like "ya, they're hard but there's nothing I can do about it". I requested additional pillows but they never came.
The pool is nice and music is groovy, just don't order a soda like I did. My jaw dropped when she told me it was 120 THB, plus 10% service charge and the 7% vat charge it came up to 140 THB. That's like $4 USD for a soda that I watched her crack open the can and then pour into a glass. I'm not cheap, but that's just a crazy price for a soda w/no alcohol! So after that I went to the market down the street for snacks.
We stayed on a Wednesday and Thursday night. We got dressed up to go out only to go right back to our room. There was loud music playing at the pool at Dream 2 and the main bar at the main building, but no one was there. It was a ghost town.
Pros- close to the sky train, MBK, night market, a 70-80 baht cab ride away from the other side of town where the main attractions are like khao san road, wat arun, and the grand palace. Decor is nice (looks like the Standard hotel or similar to the W). Free internet in the lobby, nice pool.
Cons- Not much to do if you just walked out the door. It's not right on sukumvit road so your first time in the cab will be spent trying to make a U turn to find it. It's a few blocks down soi 15. It is not visible from the main road. Sodas are a gip and my bed was too hard. I thought that it would be more happening on a weekday. The shopping area isn't that great. The night market had the best shopping. I saw the more homeless people and stray dogs in this area.
