“Montien Riverside a hit!”

Montien Riverside Hotel

I stayed in this hotel for two nights in late March. This was my first time in Bangkok. I had booked an executive suite which had excellent views up and down river. Very good standard of accommodation. The hotel is very grand. Breakfast was a choice of the continental breakfast on the executive floor with great views (this room was never busy) or in the general dining room downstairs (which I did not try). The hotel is down river from the city centre and a bit removed from the busyness of all the general Bangkok mayhem! There are shuttle buses to facilitate travellers to the skytrain and the sister hotel the Montien. Taxis are also plentiful and cheap. In summary, this is a great choice of hotel for someone who wants a quiet stylish hotel on the river but within striking distance of the city centre attractions. Recommended.

“A lovely hotel - not so good location”

We stayed at the Montein Riverside Hotel, Bangkok for 4 nights in Feb 2008 as part of a 3 week trip around Thailand.

The hotel is lovely, it has a very grand entrance hall and has loads of restaurants to choose from. There was a Chinese, Italian, International restaurant, Thai and also a bakery. I think there may have been one more too! Generally the food was very good and was pretty good value for money too. The rooms are big and bright (maybe slightly dated) but very clean and spacious.

The pool area in the hotel is lovely and you can also sit out by the river and have drinks or dinner, which is a lovely touch. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

The only slight downside of this hotel is it's location. It's not located in central Bangkok (which is great if you don't want to be in the middle of the hectic city, i.e. if you are away on business). However, if you are in Bangkok as a tourist this may not be the hotel for you! The hotel does however, offer an excellent, free shuttle bus service into Bangkok (it takes around 20-25 minutes). This service is really frequent (around once an hour during off peak and every half an hour during peak times).

A lovely hotel, but if you don't have much time in Bangkok I would recommend that you stay in a more central location (i.e. it's sister hotel in central Bangkok).

“Montien Riverside is fine, but not a real 5-star”

Montien Riverside Hotel

First, I oscillate between giving this hotel a 3 or 4 rating. Certainly it is a very good hotel, but it is just not what I think they say they are. They are not a real 5-star hotel. Also, it is hard to see if they are trying to be a business hotel or a nice tourist hotel... I would say the latter at the present. O.K., the particulars:
The staff is very helpful, though there were sometimes delays at getting coffee at breakfast. Check in is fast, and checkout was reasonable, given that they (like most hotels in the region) check your room when you check out.
Breakfast is good, reasonably extensive, and has something for virtually anyone. I did not try any other meals there.
They have a nice pool, and an average fitness area. Given that the clientele were mainly tourists, this was o.k. as it was not overly busy early in the morning.
My biggest issues with the hotel are twofold. First, about all you can say for the location is that it is on the river, but there is currently little reason that makes much of a difference. The water taxis don't come that far south, nor does the sky train, so it is a bit isolated. The neighborhood is fine, but uninteresting and unexciting. The nightlife is a bit aways. They have a shuttle that runs to the Skytrain & water taxis, but it is infrequent. A hotel that is trying to be what they say should have this issue addressed. The second problem is, as noted by another reviewer, they charge WAY TOO MUCH for their business services. $20 for 24-hours of internet is extreme.
While I don't have anything to compare this hotel with in Bangkok, my guess is that most people would expect a bit more from the hotel if you go by the web site description. It is certainly comfortable and the staff is solid, but it misses on some of the little things.

We stayed here for 3 nights on our way to Koh Samui. We loved the hotel. Everyone was very friendly, the pool was never busy and the breakfast was excellent. We had read other reviews about the hotel being out of the way but there is a lovely view of the river and the shuttle bus takes you to the sky train or the ferry boats.
We went on a trip to the floating market which was really interesting.

This was our first trip to bangkok and as we had been told how manic it can be chose this hotel after reading the reviews and looking at the location. From the moment we arrived in the huge reception area we were treated like V.I.Ps,nothing was too much trouble, the concierge was especially helpful drawing little maps and advising us how much to pay for cabs even writing out the address in Thai for the driver! The location was perfect for us,in a quiet area on the river with a fab view from our 20th floor room which was really well designed.the breakfast buffet was excellent,a huge choice to suit all nationalities with no limit as to amount ,it really set you up for the day. There was a free shuttle service to the skytrain next to the ferry with the river taxis and also to the sister hotel in the center of town, ideal for sightseeing. We would definatly return and recommend it to anyone,it is a gentle introduction to the madness that is Bangkok.
