“Oasis in a city of madness!”

We had the pleasure of finishing our far east holiday with 3 days in the Dusit Thani, Bangkok. (First time visitors to the city).

To go to a city like Bangkok you need somewhere to retreat to after the hectic, crazy lifestyle which this city forces upon you. The Dusit Thani was our "retreat" and I am so glad I booked it. Returning from a day in the city and being met with the ice cold wall of air when you walk through the grand doors is heavenly. And when the hotel doors close you truly are in another world, one of quiet luxury.

As someone who is not used to 5 star hotels and tends to accept most hotels (be they good or bad) as part of the privelige of getting to enjoy a new city, for the first time ever we found a hotel which actually made our holiday!

The D.T. is situated over from Lumphini Park (great views from rooms and rooftop bar/restaurant) and is next to the Sala Daeng BTS station so is very convenient for getting around the newer part of the city.

Rooms were great, spotlessly clean, powerful showers, all required amenities.

The service of the staff in the hotel was quite simply magnificent, every request was treated with a thoroughly professional attitude, from bellboys to desk staff, cleaners to bar staff, chauffeur's to swimming pool attendants.

Ate in two restaurants during our stay, the Benjarong Thai which was fabulous and Hamilton's steak house (equally fab,far too much food ! ).

Had the pleasure of meeting the hotel manager (Danny) one night in the bar and had a great time listening to his stories of the history of this "grand old Bangkok lady" and all the famous guests who stayed there . A man who is genuinely proud of his hotel and goes that little bit further to ensure his guests have a truly memorable stay.

If ever I find myself in Bangkok again I can safely say I will have no hestation in booking the Dusit Thani hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights as a stopover before going to Koh Samui as part of our honeymoon. We mainly picked it for location and it did not disappoint.
The room was as I expected, the bathroom was not quite as good as I had anticipated but wasn't bad.
Breakfast was good and service excellent.
We ate in the chinese and in the steakhouse both of which were very good. We had drinks in the bar in the french restaurant which is on the top floor and affords great views of the city.
Prices in hotel were a bit over the top for thailand but it's to be expected in a 5star city hotel.
Would stay here again

The stay in Dusit Thani Bangkok is fantastic. From the arrival to hotel , the receptionts bring me all the way to the check in counter. After check in, they also take me to the room and show me all the function of the button, washroom facilities and even give me maps and directions for me upon arrival. The concierge desk service is excellent. Housekeeping staff did a fantastic jobs as friendly and complete all tasks required.

Restaurants and bars are nice arrangement and the staff ara all well trained with respect becuase they always says Sawasdee and wai to you everytime they see you. This is a little Thai touches I received from them.

Check out process is up to standard even I have to wait to be served but staff is very polite and courteous and apologize to keep us waiting.

The most important is the customer service is excellent. When you are looking for something, they always offer to help and smile.

I will recommend this hotel to all my friend and colleagues as the above reasons.

“Lovely Hotel in Great Location”

Dusit Thani Hotel

Had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Dusit Thani back in March. This was our first visit to Bangkok & the Dusit Thani provided a great value for money hotel, in a perfect location to discover this wonderful city. Although we must admit our room was a little dated/tired, the rest of the hotel was wonderful.

After a sumptuous breakfast each morning it was so convenient to just walk out of the hotel & into the Sky-rail Station, and then discover the river & its ferries, the Temples & Palaces & not forgetting the shopping around Siam Square. The weather was great (30Deg), apart from one very heavy shower whilst we where visiting The Grand Palace.

Just across the (very) busy road from the hotel is Lumpini Park, a very pleasant place to stroll & a break from the bustling city.

We will definitely return to Bangkok in the future!

. . . . will post separate reports on the excursions we took whilst in Bangkok, especially the 'SUPERB' Spice Roads Cycle Tour, which included a visit to the Floating Market. Will also post some holiday photos & video here on TA soon.

“fantastic hotel”

Dusit Thani Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on route to phuket in early march. We booked through Kuoni. We arrived at 8am and fully expected not to be able to get into to the room but we were pleasantly surprised to find we could. When we got into the room we had been upgraded(perhaps because it had been my husband's birthday). The room was very large and luxurious. The bathroom was enormous and had everything we could possibly want.
The staff were absolutely charming and could not help us enough. On arriving back at the hotel the next day there was a beautiful cake, orchid and card for my husband. We had the included breakfast which was xcellent. We also had afternoon tea whcih was very fancy and great fun.
We ate at the thai restaurant- benjarong which was excellent although the wine was too expensive for us.
There was a beautiful garden in the centre of the hotel but beware there are mosis there and I got badly bitten.
The doormen were great at calling us cabs and took the numbers which is wise as there are many conmen in Bangkok.
We went to the grand palace by cab-£3. Beware again the conmen outside telling you it is closed and they will take you to another temple. This was beautiful and well worth visiting. Go early to avoid the coach tours which swamp the place. We also went to wot pho- quieter but equally at beautiful. From there head to the river and cath the boat along-very cheap. Lots of contrast bewteen opulent hotels and shanty.
Jim Thomsons house was well worth the visit and easily reached by sky train which is just outside the hotel. The hotel give you an unlimited day pass. From there it was a short walk to MBK- for shopping. Beware in here too of people stopping you to say they recognised you from the hotel and they wanted to tell you about Thai traditional goods sales- all very special and then wanted to put you in a tuk tuk to goodness only knows where- just say no thanks. Its a known scam, but easy to get sucked in by these charrming people.
Another fantastic thing to do is the vertigo bar at the banyion tree hotel- the doormen will call a cab-£2. The views are great as were the cocktails. To eat there would be great but expensive.
The bar at he top of the dusit offers great views but is open for a limited time early evening.
There were also a vietnamese, chinese, french and steak house as well as an italian restaurant. There is also some shops and a patiserie.
Lumphini park is opposite the hotel and well worth a visit- if only to watch the mass aerobics at 5pm- quite a sight and lots of fun.
Downsides of this hotel were the location. It is good for transport but very seedy within a few minutes. It was not possible to wander and find a nice restaurant. You really need to know where you want to go.
Bangkok is very busy and not a walking city but well worth one visit.
We went on an evening boat cruise with Pearl cruises- absolute rubbish and my husband got a really nasty food poisoning from the buffet. Was not worth the money-had us laughing though because it was so awful. Poor karioke on one deck and siamese cultural acts on th other- what a noise.
Overall we loved this hotel for its old fashioned glamour and excellent service. Glad we saw Bangkok but we were glad to get to the beach for a rest!
