“Loved the hotel however the attitude from the staff spoiled the experience”

Marriott Bangkok Resort & Spa

Hotel is amazing, all facilities are excellent. However, the staff other than the pool boys are rude and their attitude really puts you off staying here again (especially the pool bar staff).

One particular incident we were heading towards the pool, they all muttered something in Thai and all laughed out loudly. This continued for sometime until my sister called one of them over and asked him what was so funny. At first he would not come and then eventually came over, and blamed the other staff. Prior to this, this type of behaviour occured several times.

We did not want to put an official complaint as was not sure if the staff would lose their jobs over this and this is not what we would have wanted.

All in all the hotel, food is great but the staff really let down this hotel.

“Great resort”

Marriott Bangkok Resort & Spa

Our family (2 adults 2 children) stayed at the Marriott Bangkok for 1 night on the way in to Thailand and 2 nights on the way out. The facilities are grand, rooms very comfortable, restaurants bountiful (if not unique) and the pool is great. There are also casual dining alternatives (pizza & burgers in the adjacent mall reached 100 mtrs through a convenient pedestrian bridge) and a Swensen's Ice Cream Parlor which was a big hit with the kids. For both stays we reserved with club level amenities and the access to the lounge area at the lobby level offered excellent and varied appetizers as well as great drinks. For the longer stay, we opted to pay an extra 3000 baht per night for a junior suite which was very large (at least by US/European standards). This resort offers all that the hospitality industry in Asia is so good at offering: good rooms, accomodating and service minded staff, high quality and reasonable price. On the day of departure (flight at 2330) we were offered use of the health club facilities to shower once we finished at the pool and continued access to use the club area to relax and snack. We would definitely stay here again, although we might opt for somewhere else if only to expand our horizons.

“Lovely hotel,shame about the staff”

Marriott Bangkok Resort & Spa

May 28, 2008

My husband & I recently stayed here for 4 nights before our onward journey into Vietnam. the hotel is huge with beautiful gardens. We haved travelled through Asia on various occassions & we where really looking forward to staying here - the hotel itself is lovely, rather a clinical reception area for an oriental hotel, the pool is not as large as it looks in the photo's & the biggest disappointment of all was actually the staff!!! The all seemed to have(with the exception of the recption staff)a "yeah whatever" attitude. Two nights in a row whilst trying to enjoy a drink at the elephant bar(which closes at 11pm)the cleaners made eveyone feel uncomfortable by pacing up & down & getting there machines out, unplugging them & then plugging them back in.
The river taxi boat(provided by the hotel)is nice especially the ice cold flannels in the searing, but the novelty soon wears off - & it's actually quicker by taxi.
The spa is very expensive & would recommend using a one in the centre of bangkok.
Overall a lovely hotel just a shame about the majority of the staff.

“Relaxing Retreat”

Marriott Bangkok Resort & Spa

May 21, 2008

Stayed two nights at the Marriot Resort & Spa en route to Koh Samui. Booked a standard river view room - clean/well maintained/great view. The hotel is a bit further down the river than some of the others however the crossing on the hotel's boat to the skytrain station on the other side was really enjoyable (cold towels handed out on the trips back from Bangkok side to the hotel which was a nice touch) and never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a boat. The hotel is set in tropical gardens and was a relaxing place to get back to after a busy days sightseeing. Staff all very friendly, polite and helpful.

Hotel food was of a high standard - amazing breakfast with really good selection. If you can stretch to it would recommend a meal at Sirocco restaurant at the top of the state tower (63rd floor) - incredible views and really good food/live jazz band. Cost of food comparable to an expensive restaurant in the UK (£10 a starter, £25 a main) however cost of wine can double the bill (cheapest bottle around £50). Would definitely recommend however - you can also go up just for a drink if you don't want to eat there

“Recovered after a shaky start”

Marriott Bangkok Resort & Spa

We arrived at this hotel at 1.15 a.m. following a late night flight from Hong Kong and we were looking forward to getting to our room and to bed. However, as another reviewer writes, the receptionist tried to sell us an upgrade which was not appreciated at that time of night. I had booked a junior suite, not through the hotel website but through another agency and, as another reviewer experienced, we were told that we could not use the club lounge. There followed a protracted discussion involving the duty manager before we were finally told that we could use the lounge for food and drink but not for internet access or laundry. By this time I had made myself comfortable on one of the chairs in reception and was drifting off to sleep but eventually we were taken to our room and it was nearly 3.00 a.m. before we got to bed. Whenever we have arrived at a hotel in the early hours, wherever in the world it has been, we have never had such a protracted check in experience.

That said, our room was very comfortable and clean, the bathroom was spacious and our balcony overlooked the gardens and the river beyond. On the first morning we had breakfast in the restaurant but subsequently we ate in the club lounge which provided an excellent breakfast selection in a much quieter and relaxed atmosphere.

As has been said, the drinks and meals were expensive but in the shopping precinct adjoining the hotel it was possible to buy beer for a fraction of the cost. The club lounge provided late lunch sandwiches and cakes, and drinks were available from 4.00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m. with a variety of interesting and tasty dishes which changed each night.

The staff were very pleasant and friendly, especially in the club lounge and the setting of the resort was luxurious with beautiful grounds and river frontage. At peak times there were three shuttle boats between the hotel and the sky train station stop and the ride always provided an interesting sight-seeing experience. For us, the fact that this hotel was away from the city and the noise and traffic was a real bonus.

Check in apart, we enjoyed our stay here and if we were to revisit Bangkok we would certainly stay here again.
