This is the hotel i stayed for my first visit to Taipei during 8-14 March 2008. We booked through email, the hotel turned out to be exactly like what we saw from the photo in the internet. We took a superior suite with Queen size bed, it is just nice for 2 person. Room furnished with flat screen TV with >100 channels, Spa type shower, big bath tub, mini refrigerator, etc.
Each room have free internet for those carrying their laptop, can loan the cable from receptions. For those without laptop, can use the free internet using PC located beside the cafeteria (20min/each time). Free breakfast is so so, with mainly porridge and bread. Location of the hotel is great, it is just 5 minutes walk straight to the XMD MRT exit 1 without any turning. Receptions of the hotel staff is friendly, they helped us to book taxi, show us how to take certain bus to places of interest, etc.

This hotel is in a good location (less than a block to the subway, in a fun area). Rooms are surprisingly big. Beds very hard and uncomfortable. Free internet access if you bring a laptop. Good breakfast built in to the stay in their dining area downstairs. Overall good value for the price.

If you are gay - bonus for this hotel...there are a bunch of gay bars just a half block from the hotel. They are all outdoor bars (catering to men).

Service and security:
Unbelievably great! The hotel is small. At times, I can walk past the main door! But because it's small, the reception recognizes us and we can get our room key readily. Only one key (not key card) per room and you MUST deposit it with them when you go out for a walk. We had a make-up artist come to our room because i had a planned bridal photo shoot and the make-up artist wasn't allowed to come up until they verified that we knew her.
Internet is basically a mini table with one monitor screen and keyboard plus mouse and it's free for 20min. Strictly for hotel guests since it's in view of the reception!
(Tip: Make sure you can say the the location in Mandarin or at least print out the Mandarin address and Hotel Name cos not all taxi drivers know this hotel!)
Room:
We booked a Superior Suites Twin and what you see on their TSHotel website is really what we got. Comfortable beds. Spacious. Plasma TV. The lights are all remote-controlled from the bed-side. Very convenient. Bedside lighting can be dimmed. Room lights can be fully turned up for packing luggage or doing make-up. Bathroom is huge. But it's super troublesome to climb in and out of the bathtub to bathe. The fixed and moveable shower heads have gd water pressure. Gd range of toiletries.
Breakfast:
It's included. My boyfriend says it isn't nice so i didn't bother to go downstairs. There's only 1 lady doing the cooking. Refer to my location review.
Location:
Walking distance abt 5-10 min to the XiMenDing MRT Station Exit 1. Really awesome breakfast at the corner (no need to cross road) at a tiny coffeeshop called JSR. Opens 6am-1pm. Try the Pork Chop Sandwich called "pai goo sarn wern zhi". Cross the road and you're in the heart of the shopping district of XiMenDing. Very near the Exit 1 of the MRT Station is a Japanese Restaurant called "dar cher lu-ern" translated to be Big Car Wheel. Fantastic lunch & dinner set meals. Within XiMenDing shopping district, there's Ah Chung's Mee Sua. No tables/chairs. Just get a bowl of vermicelli and return the bowl when you're done.
In short .... Will look forward to going back to TS Hotel!!

I would definitely recommend staying in Ta Shun Hotel. I stayed here for 2 nights & the room I got was very nice & clean, had a flat screen tv with cable, a spa-type shower , a comfy bed & all the necessary toiletries. All this for only NT1080. It's conveniently located right in Ximenting around the corner from the Red Theater & the Ximen MRT Exit 1 stop. The service was excellent (thanks to Conney & her staff). I remember having to tell them I was going to miss breakfast because I had an early flight to catch. They were nice enough to offer to at least prepare some toast for me =P I'd definitely stay here again.
