Ambohimnaga is just north of Tana, and looking south you can make out the Rova on the hill in Tana. It is the old palace of the monarchy of Madagascar. The guide we had was excellent and had plenty of jokes along the way as well as providing an excellent service. The history of the monarchy is interesting and the rooms they lived in are small but neat. It is certainly worth the visit out of Tana. The small village just outside the walls of Ambohimanga provides the usual tourist souvenirs, and the locals are friendly.
