“Its tue!”

Riad El Mansour

Jul 17, 2008

Having just returned from four days at this Riad, I feel I must write a review, a lot has been said about Riad El Mansour, and I apologise if I duplicate! But the reviews are true!. I chose this Riad partly through Tripadvisor and partly via their own website.
The communications via email were very helpful. It was my husbands 40th birthday, and I wanted this to be a surprise for him.

I emailed Stephen at the Riad for restaurant ideas, and things to do in Marrakech, and the replies were almost instantaneous. He was so helpful before we had even arrived. He recommended restaurants, and booked them all in advance for me, even gave me hints of things to do and see in Essaouria.

I was met at the airport by Mustapha who was so helpful, he immediately carried my suitcases to the car and he seemed genuinely pleased to meet us, on the way to the Riad, he pointed out various sites of local interest, and gave us a brief history of Marrakech.

Upon arrival, the manager Morad greeted us, he showed us around the Riad and pointed out the various amenities to us before offering us a welcome drink on the terrace.

City guide and excursions were made for us, nothing was too much trouble, the staff really did go out of the way to help.

Our room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed with lovely furnishing and wonderful local made soap, shower gel and shampoo.

We divided our time between Marrakech and Essouirrira spending the first few days and last day in Marrakech. Morad was kind and thoughtful enough to arrange for our bus tickets to Essourrira so we did not have to rush to the station on our day of departure. We took the Supratour bus and for only 65 dirhams each way a very nice experience and highly recommended. Your return ticket has to be purchased in Essourrira.

Upon our return to Marrakech and to Riad El Mansour, it felt more like coming home than anything else and this was a very secure feeling in a very, at times, insecure, hectic overwhelming place like Morocco.

Mustapha the hotel’s driver once again met us at the bus station to bring us back to the Riad.

On our last night before an early flight morning flight home, we decided to each have a massage before dinner which was taken at the Riad. What a treat, having a massage before returning upstairs to your room before a wonderfully cooked and very filling meal served on the terrace. It honestly was the best meal we had eaten in Morocco.

A truly memorable birthday for my husband made possible by this Riad and he is already talking about coming back.

“Perfect honeymoon”

Riad El Mansour

Jul 7, 2008

We stayed at Riad El Mansour for 3 nights whilst we were on our honeymoon in June and what can we say except this Riad is just outstanding, from the moment you are greeted at the airport by the Riad's driver to the moment you leave. The satff are friendly, courteous, welcoming and can not do enough to make sure you enjoy every moment of your stay with them. We stayed in room 2 which was so beautiful, the attention to detail and the fresh flowers made the room so welcoming.

We can not say enogh about this Riad, the food was amazing (and we love our food), the staff were extremely friendly and gave us some great recommendations of where to go and eat, everything was made so easy for us here and all we had to do was sit and relax in the plunge pool whilst drinking a beer or two!

“An Extraordinary Experience”

Riad El Mansour

We stayed for four nights at the end of june for our first visit to Marrakech. As arranged, we were collected at the airport by the Riad driver, Mustapha. So reassuring when you know that the taxi drivers will want to cheat you. Mustapha became our local guide and guru, he knows everyone and everything about Marrakech. A short drive to the Medina and you know you are somewhere different. The poverty is hard to take at times but the culture is so evocative. A short walk down some dusty alleys and at the end in a cul de sac is the door to the Riad el Mansour.

Opening it takes you to a real oasis in the madness of Marrakech. It is truly beautiful and well described by previous correspondents so I will not repeat, but is amazing.

We ate at the Riad every night. The food is superb and I defy anyone to actually eat everything offered - it just isn't possible (but I tried really hard). The food was so good, there was just no point going to a restaurant. The terrace is a unique venue to eat and drink. It was so hot, apparently 54 degrees or more - a heatwave for the locals too.

The service and attention to detail is first rate and faultless. We were upgraded to the suite (more roomy for our young son) without charge and we found out we were the only residents for two of the four nights. It felt like our own place with our own cook, driver and maid. The owners, Stephen and Richard will do anything within their power to make your experience perfect.

Take the trip into the Atlas Mountains. Mustapha drives you and takes you where you want to go. It is magnificent although my main memory is of a berber market where no westerners go, resembling a scene from National Geographic. There is a man there who sits in a small cave in the hillside, who, for 30 pence will extract your teeth. No anaesthetic. People queue for his services. As I said, the poverty is hard.

It was a great experience, the Riad el Mansour is extraordinary.

“A beautiful oasis”

Riad El Mansour

This was our first time in Marrakech and it was wonderful from the moment we were met at the airport by the ever smiling Mustapha.
Marrakech is chaotic and could almost be described as a bit of a culture shock but we were soon put at ease by Stephen, Robert and the wonderful staff at the riad.
We stayed in room 3 - it was beautiful as was the whole riad particularly at night when all of the candles were lit.
The little touches like the gifts on arrival, fresh fruit and nuts along with mineral water every day, the thickest towels we've ever come across, robes and slippers all made us feel as if we were special guests.
It was lovely to come back to the riad each day after the chaos that is Marrakech - it felt like an oasis in the hustle and bustle that makes Marrakech such an experience.
We really felt that nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were without exception friendly and efficient - Stephen and Robert have managed to create a wonderfully informal atmosphere without compromising on service and standards.
We ate at the riad and also in some fantastic restaurants recommended by the lovely Abdess - the food at the riad easily matches the food at the restaurants (my mouth still waters when I think about the delicious assortment of Moroccan salads at the riad!), sitting on the terrace listening to the call to prayer certainly beats Devon on a rainy June day!!
I indulged in a massage at the riad - wonderful but be aware that the massage may be done by a man, something I hadn't thought to check in advance.
At first the little alleys and streets appeared to be a little overwhelming but we very soon found they are perfectly safe even at night - we soon got used to being approached by local youngsters offering to show us the way, they happily accepted 'Non merci' or 'Pas aujourd'hui'.
If we return to Marrakech we wouldn't hesitate to stay again at the Riad El-Mansour and will certainly be recommending it to friends.

“Crème de la ‘Kech”

Where does one begin? My trip to Morocco was my most favorite to date and is largely attributed to the Riad El Mansour! I was impressed with previous reviews and the attentiveness I received even before making a reservation! Prior to booking, Abdess answered all questions via email... instantaneously! He is a gracious host and knowledgeable about the city itself /surrounding areas. He provided excellent suggestions, and orchestrated all meals, tours, etc. I could not have been more pleased with such amazing guides (Hakeem and Mustapha)! It is also a huge relief to be greeted at the airport by someone from the riad upon arrival... especially since landing in Marrakech can be a bit overwhelming. Mustapha picked me up at Menara and gave me an overview of the city on our way to the riad. He was also my guide to the Atlas Mountains/Berber Village and is truly an asset to the staff! :)

During my stay, every effort was made to ensure that I was enveloped in sheer luxury. The riad is a great alternative to larger hotels. I loved the fact that you must walk down several streets to make your way to the property. It is charming and central to everything! Magnificent tile, exotic décor and striking architecture enhance one’s experience. My room (No. 2) was beautiful, spacious, and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was large with all amenities one could desire. Rooms are air-conditioned, which is an absolute "must" in this climate. You may access the internet (free of charge) at the desk near the hotel entrance. All rooms are equipped with a safe, Ipod docking station, and alarm clock. 

I received a plate of Moroccan delicacies, welcome gift and kind note in my room upon arrival. Complimentary bottled water and a delicious dried fruit/nut assortment were provided daily. Breakfast is served each morning on the upper terrace, where you may bask in the sun and experience the rich sounds of Marrakech. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to dine at the riad, but heard rave reviews from other guests.

The Riad El Mansour is a true gem (accurately categorized by Tripadvisor in 2008). My only regret was leaving.
