“Great place for a family holiday”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

Oct 5, 2008 New

We spent a week at this hotel and were very pleased with the service and the hotel itself. Our room was very spacious and clean - rooms serviced daily - we didn't have to lift a finger which was great. Easy walk to Disneyland and the Garden Walk centre across the road was a great place to eat. Staff were VERY friendly and made us feel very welcome. We were even able to extend our stay with no fuss. Our daughter loved the swimming pool which was a bonus after a long day on our feet at Disneyland. Would definitely stay here again.

“Huge Loft Rooms, Great Location, Friendly Staff”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, California
Oct 5, 2008 New

We got the bi-level loft using our annual Marriott certificate (it was an upgrade from a Studio room) and we were literally floored by the size of this thing. It says 750sqft but felt to be over 1000. Two full bedrooms, each with it's own private full bath, per floor. The lower had a queen, upper a king. Lower also had full kitchen area with everything you'd ever need to make a great meal, as well as a living room area with sofa bed, TV, and fireplace. In theory, this place could accomodate 6 people, easily. Nice and quiet too, no noisy neighbors or elevators, just peace and quiet.

They have free breakfast that runs from 7-10am weekends, and 6:30-9:30am weekdays. Also weekdays feature a happy hour type "social" event with free snacks (chips, crackers, dips, cheeses, muffins, etc). Location is walkable to not only Disney, but many other places to shop and eat. Parking is free and no shortage of spaces. 24/7 pool and jacuzzi area available as well (jacuzzi was going through renovations while we were there). Tennis and basketball courts next to pool, and mini-gym just behind the front desk. This place literally doesn't skip a beat.

I'd come back, no questions asked, especially with a group of 2-4 others, so we could split the cost, which is usually under $300/night (6 ways comes to under $50/pp). It feels like you're at home, not many hotels are able to do that, and the ones that do charge a whole lot more too.

“Residence Inn was a great place to stay!”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

5 of 5 stars
Sydney, Australia
Oct 3, 2008

I just read the last review and was totally surprised by the negaitive experience and thought it only fair that I share our wonderful experience. My wife, a friend and I stayed from the 29th Sep for 3 nights. We went to Disneyland and the California Adventure.

First, I do agee that the shuttle was a bit tardy (I think this person was the frustrated person wating for the same bus as us a few days ago). But ,realistically, we're are on holidays and out of rushed business mode so not really a major issue, or maybe us Aussie's are more layed back.

We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was free and a good mixture of American treats (don't they love the sweet stuff!). Our room was spotless. The beds were very comfortable. There was nothing else we could fault and would definitely stay there again.
By the way, there is a new Marketplace accross the road - my wife and friend loved the shops, all at the right price. Also, don't forget Lou's Bar Grill and the Cheesecake Factory restaurant - both excellent service and great value.

Overerall we strongly recommend The Residence Inn to anyone. By the way we are now in Toronto and staying at another Residence Inn, and the experince is just as professional.

“Dreadful Place, Friendly Staff”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

Sep 27, 2008

This hotel is geographically close to Disneyland. However, if you choose to use the shuttle (which is a good idea since your feet will be killing you after a day at the park and the 1/2mile+ walk is quite a distance) you will have an incredibly long wait and the once on the shuttle you will find it makes many stops and takes a rather long circular route to and from the park. So annoying to waste up to 45 mins waiting for the shuttle to arrive that we ended up driving and paying to park after we had purchased a five day shuttle pass.

This hotel is shabby to say the least and many areas, including the rooms, are rather dirty. The pool area is small. The breakfast area is small, smelly, unkempt, and lacking in basic hygeine.

The tables in the breakfast area are wiped down when a staff member is asked to do so, but only in a cursory way. I wiped our table again using a wet wipe after the staff person had done it and was disgusted to see the wet wipe turm black immediately after one swipe. The food/buffet area was a mess. It is small and very busy so it is hard to find a place to sit. They stop bringing out fresh items about 15 minutes before breakfast service ends. One day of our stay they even ran out of plates and resorted to styrofoam.

This is a family style hotel. Not my cup of tea at all. I have a family and was there with my five year old, but we generally don't let our child make a mess or behave in an unruly way even when we are in an environment were this seems to be the norm. The fact is that the families staying at this hotel use it harshly and the staff just can't keep up with the mess. This was certainly a lesson to us that we will not be staying any hotel in the future that is "family friendly".

The room we had was a one bedroom suite. Great in theory. However the doors between the living room where the hide-a-bed was and the bedroom were glass panelled french doors with sheers. This meant that if we had the light on it illuminated the area we wanted our son sleeping in. If we had the TV on it could be easily heard. The whole point for us getting a suite is so we can stay up a bit later after my son goes to sleep. This was not helpful.

An odd thing was that for a family friendly hotel the bathroom sink was so high that my child could not reach the sink. Something that is not a problem at a normal countertop height. The sink is outside of the toilet and bath/shower area so at night if you go the the toilet you have to wake up your partner when you turn the light on to wash your hands. This also meant that the bath and toilet area were far too small to be useful or pleasant to use. So tiny in fact that it was hard to bath our son as there was no room to stay in there and supervise him.

In the room, the carpet was filthy around the edges as if it had never been vacuumed to the edge of the wall. The kitchen and bathroom floors were sticky under foot. The doors and door handles had obviously never been wiped down as finger prints and a stickly feel were all over them. The buildings are flimsy and the walls are paper thin so you hear everything going on is the other units attached to yours and everytime someone closes a door the entire building shakes and with about 6 or 8 rooms per unit this happens often. We were lucky to have a unit on the interior of the property. We initially checked into a room on the outskirts and asked to be moved as it was very noisy from the road traffic. Thank goodness I brought my earplugs.

We booked this hotel online. We got a great price and so had to pay upfront. Even so, this was such a terrible experience that we after two nights we packed up and moved to another hotel for the last three nights of our holiday. Paying for two hotel rooms was preferrable to staying in this dump.

“Loved California and loved the Residence Inn”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

Sep 19, 2008

LOVED CALIFORNIA, LOVED THE RESIDENCE INN…

We stayed here between 22 Aug and 6 Sep 08. Upon arrival the front entrance was very appealing, everywhere looked clean, plenty of parking. Reception staff were the friendliest I’ve met during my several years travelling to America. They always greeted with a smile and nothing was too much trouble, although I could say this about all of the staff really.
The rooms were fabulous, again one of the better designs I’ve stayed in. They were a very generous size with kitchenette which included a dishwasher, microwave, oven, toaster, coffee maker, fridge/freezer, cutlery etc.. They also had a separate bedroom (beds very comfortable with ample pillows and bedding), toilet and vanity area, separate seating area with TV, fireplace and dining area. Ample storage was also available (enough for 2 adults and 3 kids). Air conditioning was digital so very easy to operate and not noisy. Any problems reported with the rooms were dealt with very promptly. They were immaculately clean upon arrival and during our stay and provided a very comfortable stay.
The pool area was possibly the only slight downside to this hotel. It’s a 24 hour pool which is great but it wasn’t that warm and due to it being quite a small pool it became too crowded during the busier times. The pool layout however was nice, with the most comfortable sun chairs/beds I’ve ever sunbathed on. Umbrella’s provided for shade and ample tables where you could eat breakfast if you wanted too. There was also a kiddie pool and Jacuzzi.
The breakfast – fabulous! I read reviews before I travelled here that said it got a bit ‘samey’ and that it got busy etc. There was ample seating in the breakfast area, but you could also take your breakfast to one of the surrounding outdoor seating area’s or even back to your room if you wished so although the actual breakfast area may have got a bit busy at times it was never ever a problem. The food quality was excellent, there was a varying choice on each day of bagels, muffins, toast, muffins, waffles (you can make yourself with several machines), bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, French toast, tortilla wraps, choice of 4 cereals, porridge. Fruit juices, cold milk, hot chocolate, coffee and tea were also available. The coffee and tea were also available 24 hours a day.
Other facilities within the hotel included: barbeque area with patio heaters and 2 gas barbeques, mini market supplying beers, fizzy drinks, biscuits, frozen pizza, sandwiches etc. (quite reasonably priced), if the market didn’t provide something you wanted the hotel operated a complimentary shopping service to your room (didn’t use this though), tennis/basketball court, Disney tickets desk, internet connection at a cost of $5 for half hour, managers evenings with snacks (this wasn’t great as not always sure when this would take place and not much choice, it only happened once during our stay and we got a plate of nacho’s and dips).
Local area was really nice, it was right across the road from the new Garden Grove complex which is nice to walk around in the evening. It has shops, bars, take-out restaurants, speciality restaurants etc. It’s still being completed so there will be more to come. Some of the restaurants we visited were Cheesecake Factory which had an extensive menu, meals were huge, very nice atmosphere although seating outside is nicer with patio heater, quite reasonable prices although don’t have kids menu but will do kids versions of some meals. Bubba Gumps was a nice place, great beers and cocktails and again a great menu, service great – you have to display your ‘stop Bubba’ if you want service for drinks etc., and display your ‘run bubba run’ sign if you are ok as you are. California Pizza I was reluctant to try as I thought it would just be pizza, how wrong could I be, again great service and atmosphere and the pizza’s are gorgeous. Also worth a visit are the marble creamy factory for every flavour ice cream you could possibly want and the chocolate factory. The nearest beach recommended to us was Huntingtons beach which was about half hour drive, great beach, great waves, great sun-tan – what more could you want!
Parks we visited included Six Flags (great if you love rollercoasters), Universal and Knotts Berry Farm (this park was fab). We decided not to visit Disney as we’d done so many times in Florida. Also took a trip to Vegas but that was a whole other story….
In conclusion, if you’ve booked this hotel you won’t be disappointed, it’s a great base to enjoy wonderful California. Can’t wait to go again, if I do I’d definitely book the Residence Inn.
