I was pleasantly surprised by the Clarion Anaheim. We are a family of four: 2 adults, 2 kids. We stayed at the Clarion for 7 nights this March/08 as part of an Alaskan Airlines Vacations Disneyland package. We have been to Disney several times and have always stayed at one of the Harbour Drive properties, close to the Disney main gate and I was adamant that was where I wanted to stay again. However, it was our Alaska Vacations representative who talked us into staying at the Clarion. The price was much less expensive than staying at one of the Harbour Blvd. motels and here we had the luxury of an actual HOTEL, without much more distance. I had convinced myself that the Clarion was too far away from the park to consider as we have always walked to and from and didn't want to rely on the shuttles. I was so wrong. We took the shuttle if it was there, otherwise we walked and it was about 15 minutes. (About the same distance from the Howard Johnson.) As far as facilities go, compared to other properties in the area, this is a true "hotel." It is nine stories high. There are two restaurants--one American cuisine, the other Mexican. There is a well-stocked gift shop in the lobby and the bar serves great $4 margaritas at happy hour! The pool is much larger than most other properties in the area and has an abundance of lounge chairs around the sunny deck. We were traveling with another family who had booked a suite and the hotel upgraded us to a suite as well, no extra charge, just so we could be next door to our friends. (FYI, the suite is just a little larger than a regular room and has a small hide-a-bed couch as well as a microwave...not much more than you get in a regular room, but the extra space was nice.) As for the room itself, it was clean, the beds were comfortable (pillow-top mattresses and down duvets,) there were ample toiletries and free internet which we appreciated as we had our lap-top. It was also great to have a fridge as we bought groceries at Von's just down the road so we didn't have to go out for breakfast and had fresh snacks to take to the Park. We never used the microwave, although it is included in the "suite." There are many great restaurants in the area but our favorite remains Mimi's, which is way down Harbour Blvd., next to the Howard Johnson. Since we had a car, we would call Mimi's for take-out most nights and just bring it back to eat in the room. My only complaint about the Clarion would be the air conditioning system. It is the old, standard, wall-type radiator which is noisy so you can't leave it on while you sleep. Hence the room tends to get stuffy at night. Not a big deal though. I would still recommend this place to anyone and will stay here again in a heartbeat!
