“Worth a second try”

Desert Palms Hotel & Suites

Family of 5 stayed here 3 nights in July '08-Borrego style suite. Room was comfy and decent. As there were 5 of us, I asked for extra soap from the maid but she said she didn't have any (what's up with that?). Bathroom fan was loud and startling when you first turn on the lights. I liked that you could control the AC as I like it on the cool side. Some hotels have it preset where you can't adjust the temperature. I don't think the hallways had AC though because it always felt warm and muggy going to and leaving our room. Free breakfast was included--scrambled eggs, grits/biscuits (which alternated w/sausage patties every other day), grilled potato cubes, cold cereal, day old pastries, bread, oj, milk, coffee, and fruits (the canned kind that were mushy). I liked the fresh bananas. You have to get there early enough to beat the rush and the mess. Walkable to California Adventure/Disneyland which is around the corner. Other eateries across the street. Free parking and WiFi. A second try won't hurt.

I booked our stay at the Desert Palms for our family vacation to Disneyland. To get to the point the room I booked online was not available when we arrived. I had booked a king suite with private living room with fold out bed. They did not have any when we got there. They ended up sending us to 2 other different rooms hauling our bags around with no help. None of the rooms were what I had requested. I found that several of the desk staff were not easy to understand. By the third try and a threat to deal with the manager they ended up finding a room with what I had requested. They mentioned the rooms were either booked with extended stays folks or out of service. Not to mention he said the hotel was booked out. Funny, they sent us to 3 different room types. Guess they were not booked out. Front desk staff gave conflicting information for destinations, times and routes for various events etc. Breakfast was free but became routine after 2 days of the same thing. The staff were very eager to clear your table and move you out for others. Always hovered around your table. Pool was much smaller than the pictures make it out to be. Bar and grill was a bit pricey but food was good. Bathroom fans came on with the lights and sounded like a Harley was driving by. Heard that the AC units in some suites were exceptionally noisey from our friends who stayed too. Over all this was not a good choice. Will not be back. Should have stayed in the hotels we liked in the past. Were much better.

Not really happy with my recent stay at this hotel. I stopped by in the morning and did a "pre-check in" and got my parking pass. I was told that I can check in after 3 PM. Arrived to hotel at 3:30 and room was not ready. We have booked "Yuha" Suite. Waited about 45 minutes. Found out later that they offer extended check out for $30 (at 4 PM). I think that is the issue. Room was never cleaned before 4 PM in afternoon. Brekfast same every day (but it is free so can not complain too much). Found out few bugs in our room but otherwise clean. Ladder for double beds in kids area broken and fixed with screws - not very safe. Walking distance to main entrance - about 10-15 minutes. Overall - I would not stay at this hotel again.

“Decent, probably last stay”

This is the second time I have stayed at the Desert Palms. The first time we really had a good stay and the location is very good. It is a short walk to the parks and the 7-11, while frequented by some shady folks, is a great place to get water etc. before going to the parks.

This second stay was a little less pleasurable. We got a King Suite and the room had bad air circulation. The HVAC was in the bedroom and it was either hot or cold in there. It, along with the bathroom vent fan were crazy loud to boot! The carpet turned my socks black after walking around for a short time without my shoes on. The room did look very clean otherwise.

My biggest problem was with the last minute add on charges. The daily resort fee is the biggest rip off of all time. I also got charged for a safe fee, when I never used the safe. Of course you get taxed on the extra fees just to add insult to injury.

The breakfast was good but got tired after the third night. Same thing every day with no variation. Eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, donuts, cerael, warm juice. The breakfast room staff was very good except they kept taking away our ketchup bottle as if it were the last one on the planet.

Overall it is an o.k. place, but the nickle and dime fees really irked me and so I payed them and will find a new place to stay when I go to Disneyland.

Okay, so most of these bad reviews you are probably reading are from people who expect nothing less than a PERFECT 5 star super hotel for $125. I'm going to be completely honest..... this hotel is GREAT! In total, there was 6 of us, and we chose the Borrengo suite and I have to say that it was actually pretty spacious. The front desk was nice, the maids ALWAYS cleaned the room so well. The only problem we had was trying to get them to leave more than 6 towels, but we would just call them to bring more, and they would. The AC really keeps the room nice and cool, the bathrooms were nice and the shower, tiolet and everything was always clean.

The pool is not what it looks like in the pictures, but seriously..... what's more important? the pool, or being right behind California's Adventure?!

And also it is RIGHT next store to a little convience store, so anytime we needed anything, it was right there.

There was really not much noise that we could hear from other rooms. The only noise that is actually possible to disturb you would be, for example, if people on the floor above you were running a marathon or doing jumping jacks, and chances are.... the people above you aren't going to be doing that!

There isn't a whole bunch of parking, but that wasn't a problem for us because the hotel is a 8-10 minute walk to Disneyland and it's close to gift shops and places to eat so we walked almost everywhere unless we went for a drive, but we NEVER had a problem finding parking.

We took a shot in the dark when we picked this hotel and it turned out to work really well for us. Infact, we are going again in about 2 months and we don't have the courage to go anywhere else but here because we were SO happy with everything, and honestly, when does that happen much?
