“Great Value with No Extras”

Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

We booked thru the Disney Travel Company & knew that Motel 6 would be very basic. No extras (hairdryers, continental breakfast, etc). We didn't plan on spending much time in our room & we just needed a safe place to sleep & shower.
Our room had just been remodeled.....was a little shocked when we entered our room & there wasn't any carpeting. They had removed the carpets & put in hardwood flooring (of some sort). It was actually nice looking & made the room look cleaner & bigger. We had 3 adults & 2 children with 2 queen beds. (we brought along a toddler sized blow-up bed) & it worked just fine.
We depended on wake up calls every morning & had no problems with them.....right on time every day. We never made it to the pool but it looked like people were really enjoying it.
We used the Anaheim Resort Transit to get back & forth to Disneyland (we will never do that again). You can walk to the parks but it is probably close to 8/10ths of a mile.
There's a small gift shop with cold drinks & other items you may need. The prices actually weren't that bad & the owner was always friendly.
If you just want a place to sleep & shower, you're not looking for all the extras & you want to save your money to spend elsewhere during your trip........then Motel 6 would be fine.
We plan on staying there again on our next trip.

Booked through Disney Travel, saved a TON of money. Don't forget your hairdryer, like I did. They really have no extras, but it's a clean, safe place to sleep in between partying at Disneyland. They let us check in early which really helped us!

If you're wanting your hotel experience to be something special, go somewhere else. If, like us, you just need a place to sleep close to the park, BOOK THIS HOTEL.

“Great price, comfortable stay”

Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

Mar 24, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

My family and I recently stayed at Motel 6 from March 3-14th, 2008

We booked through the Disney site and got a bunch of little extra goodies which was nice.

This is what we thought.

Check in:

We got there early and check in was not a problem, there was a room available right away which was a blessing since we got in a 9am. Consider that it wasn't prime time, so they had extra space available, don't expect this if you go during the busy seasons.

The room did NOT smell at all, the sheets were clean, the towels were fine, absolutely no mildew in the bathroom, everything flushed properly, the water pressure was not horrible. It was good.

After reading some of the reviews, i was really worried that we would be sleeping standing up, but that wasn't the case at all.

We had a room on the 3rd floor, where at night you could look out the window or stand on the deck and see the fireworks, which was great when the kids were tired.

The first room was right behind the elevator, so I was a little worried, but pleasantly, you could not hear the elevator at all. However the crazy lady yelling in Spanish on the deck was a bit irritating the first night, but you can't blame the hotel for her. Lady you know who you are! Good grief.

2 days later, we decided that we wanted a fridge, seeing as we were staying so long. So not a problem, we got a new room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool area, again, clean and good.

We did find it to be a little noiser on this side because of the people in the pool, but it wasn't bothersome, we had our fan on and the t.v. on and it didn't bother us.

Upon walking to the pool a few times, I saw some maids cleaning rooms that had laminate flooring, I think they were rooms with single beds and they were clean and looked nice too.

Staff:

Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. Understand that sometimes it is busy all at once, so once I had to wait 5 minutes...oh darn. Otherwise, everyone was really helpful, we were there a long time and wanted directions, use of their phone, and just general information, and I they were always happy and willing to help. Then again, I asked nicely, if you are an idiot, I would be rude to you too.

Pool/hottub:

I am always really cold, so upon reading the reviews, I didn't think I would use the pool at all. Upon arriving, I was a little disappointed to see that the hottub was not in service, However they had 2 men working on it and the next day it was up and running great.
We came back every afternoon and had down time, where I enjoyed laying in the sun and the kids thought the pool was great. It was clean and I even went in one day and was surprised to see that it wasn't cold at all.

All in all, here is a breakdown of what we thought.

-Good service, nice staff.
-Loved the coffee/hotchocolate machines in the lobby,(but they shut down at 10am) and we found that if you went really late, sometimes they were out...not usually an issue.
-The rooms were clean, and comfortable
-The distance from Disneyland was managable to walk, about 15 minutes, we did this and used the ART.

*keep in mind, the ART runs every 20minutes from this hotel. When you come back it is bus 7B, but if you go on 7A it takes you to a hotel just around the corner, which was nice, when we didn't want to wait for our bus.

-There is lots of restaurants within a few minutes of walking. We had a ball at Bubba Jump shrimp, and the kids enjoyed the Denny's across the road from disneyland.

We had a great trip, not dissappointed at all. I am glad we saved money and stayed here and were able to spend it doing fun trips instead.

*******If you are booking the Disneyland Express read this******

This had nothing to do with our booking or our hotel, but, I thought I would share incase you stay here.

Because this hotel is not one of the major hotels, the Disneyland Express, does not normally stop here to pick you up. You MUST phone 24 hours in advance and arrange a pickup.

We did this, and had our pick up time arranged for 5:25pm. We were flying out of LAX and our flight was at 8:30 which I thought was plenty of time.

Well, 5:25, passed, then 5:30, 5:40, and finally at 5:50 I phoned to find out what the heck was going on. Apparently they had forgotten us...they lied and said it was traffic, but when I questioned the driver I found out otherwise.

This pick up, does NOT take you to the airport, it takes you to the disneyland hotel, where you hop on another bus that transports you to the airport. It leaves every hour on the hour.

I wish someone had told us all this information, it was a very stressful situation to say the least. So please if you are catching a flight take take this into consideration, and if your pick up from the hotel is more than 20 minutes late(because they are always about that late) make sure you phone....or I would still be sitting there waiting. grrrrrr.

“Good Enough”

Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

3 of 5 stars
Phoenix, AZ

I wasn't impressed or unimpressed with the place. We needed a place just to sleep in and store our stuff, basically, and that is what we got with the Motel 6.

We booked the motel through Disneyland.com and enjoyed the travel package and ease that the site provided in booking our stay.

For being a Disneyland "Good Neighbor" Motel, however, I was surprised to find it so off the beaten path. I thought it would be right across the street. Instead, it was a good 1/2 mile walk to the park. It wasn't bad; we actually kind've enjoyed it. Walking there takes approx 18 minutes to get to the front gate.

The main plus about the motel is that they let us check-in early. We got there early in the morning and wanted to get to Disneyland so it was nice just to check-in and get going without worrying about everything else.

The only problem with our room was the toilet not great at flushing, but it didn't create any problems with us. Also, the towels are hard and not comfortable at all; I suggest bringing your own.

As a result, choose this place if you want no frills and do it through disneyland.com so you can the added Disney goodies. : )

“A disgusting cesspool is the Motel 6.”

Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate

Feb 24, 2008
4/5 found this review helpful

After reading all the reviews here on Tripadvisor about the Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate, I knew what to expect when I arrived. Basic standard room, no frills, no extras- but a clean place to stay at a decent price with a pet. WRONG!

There are so many reasons why you should BEWARE of this motel. First off pulling up to the motel, its in dire need of a paint job on the outside. As I checked in (with a pet, which I reminded the employee) they asked me for a credit card. I thought it was just procedure, I didn't know I was paying up front as he just ran my card and didn't say what for. I thought this odd, and I didn't get to tell him about my AAA card since he rushed me--- and then he gave me a map and my keys and pointed me in the direction of my hotel room.

As we pulled to the back of the motel (we were in room 132) there was construction being done to the building. The equipment was blocking a big portion of the parking lot. The parking spaces closest to our room, which meant lugging the luggage farther but it wasn't a big deal.

We entered the room and it seemed alright, from far away. But the more I actually looked around it became obviously clear that the room was in poor condition (see pictures). There were BIG stains on the carpet, one of the wall lights was dented, the door needed to be painted/repaired, the bathroom ceiling had serious water damage, there was gum lodged into the door stop, there was damage to the lower bathroom door-- and these were the minor problems with the room. The carpet made your socks turn black, the toilet didn't even look like it had been cleaned in weeks, and when you placed a towel on the bathroom floor to step on (out of a shower) it turned brown because the floor was so dirty!

As we unpacked, and settled in with our min-pin, my fiance went to take a shower. NO HOT WATER. After 3 calls made to the front lobby and nearly 5 hours later, they finally rectified the problem with the boiler. The employee was very rude to my fiance (who made the second call) and only seemed semi-sorry when I called the first and third time about the problem. (We really needed the hot water after driving 8 hours from Arizona!)

I also found out that both my Mom and my brother had left messages at the front desk for me. Both of which the motel never actually gave me. I even went to the front desk AFTER knowing I had messages there, and they still told me I had NO messages. What the heck?

And then after the shower was fixed...the toilet broke (this all happened on the first day of check in). Knowing how long it took to get them to fix the hot water problem, I fiddled around with the toilet (and noticed it was rigged to work) until you could just pull the chain manually to get it to flush. I wasn't going to wait another 5 hours before someone bothered showing up to help with my problem that shouldn't have been rigged in the first place. (Keep in mind there were hardly any guests staying! It wasn't like they were packed!)

Now I was told (when I called the motel 2 months in advanced about booking a room) you can bring a pet. They don't really want you to leave it in the room, but it was OKAY (and I stress this) if you did if the pet didn't bark/meow and you let the front desk know. As we went out to eat, visited the park, we left our dog in the room and came back often to check on him and take him potty. He's not a barker and extremely well behaved and we were also grateful that there was nobody staying in the rooms on either side of us. I specifically asked for a room away from other guests just in case, especially away from the non-pet rooms.

Every time we left the room we put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, until the second day it mysteriously was gone when we returned. We asked for another one at the front desk put they informed us they were out. So I had them put us on the Do Not Disturb / Clean list so our dog could have privacy.

On our third day, after leaving him alone for about an hour, we returned to the motel to find that our keys no longer worked. THEY LOCKED US OUT OF OUR ROOM. We went to the front desk where the manager proceeded to YELL at us in front of 2 other employees. They said we were not allowed to leave our dog unattended-- which I said I had called before coming and asked an employee and even let the desk know each day we had been there that our dog was in the room. They said if he didn't bark it shouldn't be a problem.

Well the manager kept screaming about our dog and handed us a card with their pet policy. Which said that you shouldn't leave your dog unattended in the room, BUT if you did they would not clean it. It was a very unclear policy, and I didn't understand why all of a sudden our dog had become a problem.

It finally dawned on us that since we no longer had a Do Not Disturb sign a maid had come in to the room and my dog had barked at them. Even though I had asked for another privacy sign and when I didn't get one, had called the desk repeatedly to not have anyone come in.

So my last day of vacation to appease the manager who was fuming and turning red, we had my brother watch my dog at his house. After all the problems we had with no hot water, no running toilet, a run down, dirty room-- we get yelled at by management, I am so mad that they allow 1 pet per room but then make you feel guilty about it even though they have an unclear pet policy that I checked on not once, but TWICE!

Even so they didn't have to lock us out of our own room (and I was frantic to get in because of my dog). They could've left us a note on the door or a message on the phone. Its utterly ridiculous the way they treated me, and I had no idea I had violated their policy as they weren't clear with me about it!

To pet owners and other individuals looking for a cheap decent room in the Anaheim area, DO NOT STAY HERE this place is a dump (to put it nicely) and you are obviously NOT welcome here. Take your pet to some other REAL pet-friendly hotel and avoid this place like the plague. If my words can't convince you, take a look at the pictures of the room I rented for $75.99 a night. I didn't expect a great hotel room, but I expected a place that was clean, in working order, and with management who aren't on some crazed power trip.

The day I was leaving, we were packing up at about 10 AM. The maid kept knocking on my door asking when I was leaving, but check out wasn't until 12 PM! After that we packed faster (since she had parked her cleaning cart right outside our door!) and dropped off our keys to the same manager who yelled at me the night before. I saw his name tag, and the Motel 6 will be getting a letter from me. But I won't ever step foot in this chain again, the 4 nights we stayed here ruined our trip!

Again I can't stress what a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience and motel this is. :( If I hadn't paid upfront for the room (since no where booking the reservation online did it say you had to pay up front) I would've moved hotels. You can get the Howard Johnsons for a little bit more (or about the same if you find a deal) and they are closer to Disneyland, care about your buisness, and give you a clean room that won't leave you fuming!

One last note. Disneyland is not 0.9 miles from this motel like they advertise. Its more like a 1.5 or closer to 2.0 miles. Also the ART charges $3 per way, per person to get to Disneyland.

    • Disliked — The disgusting condition the room was, the manager Paul, the vague policies, no hot water, and no flushing toilet.
